SEOUL - North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has had his defence minister executed with anti-aircraft fire for insubordination and dozing off during formal military rallies, South Korean intelligence said Wednesday, hinting at possible instability in the Pyongyang leadership. If confirmed, it marks another demonstration of Kim's ruthlessness in dealing with even the most senior officials suspected of disloyalty, following the execution of his uncle and one-time political mentor Jang Song-Thaek in 2013. It also points to possible power struggles within the top leadership, following Kim Jong-Un's decision to cancel a scheduled visit to Moscow last week in order to deal with "internal issues". Late last month, the NIS reported that Kim had ordered the execution of 15 senior officials so far this year, including two vice ministers, for questioning his authority. In a briefing Wednesday to a parliamentary committee, Han Ki-Beom, the deputy director of the South's National Intelligence Agency (NIS) said hundreds of people witnessed the execution of minister Hyon Yong-Chol, which was believed to have been carried out with an anti-aircraft gun around April 30 at a military academy in northern Pyongyang. - See more at: http://news.asiaone.com/news/asia/s-korea-says-north-executed-defence-minister-anti-aircraft-gun#sthash.9S6XTa3e.dpuf

Kim Jong-un's Ex-Girlfriend 'Shot by Firing Squad' Kim Jong-un's ex-girlfriend was among a dozen well-known North Korean performers who were executed by firing squad on Aug. 20, reports said Wednesday. Sources in China said singer Hyon Song-wol as well as Mun Kyong-jin, head of the Unhasu Orchestra, were arrested on Aug. 17 for violating North Korean laws against pornography and were executed in public three days later. The victims of the atrocity were members of the Unhasu Orchestra as well as singers, musicians and dancers with the Wangjaesan Light Music Band. They were accused of videotaping themselves having sex and selling the videos. The tapes have apparently gone on sale in China as well. A source said some allegedly had Bibles in their possession, and all were treated as political dissidents. Kim met Hyon about a decade ago, before either of them was married. But he was later ordered to break off the relationship by his father Kim Jong-il and she married a soldier. Since then there have been rumors that the two were having an affair. Kim's wife Ri Sol-ju was also a member of the Unhasu Orchestra before she married him. Whether she had any hand in the executions is unclear. The Unhasu Orchestra and Wangjaesan Light Music Band have apparently been disbanded due to the latest scandal. "They were executed with machine guns while the key members of the Unhasu Orchestra, Wangjaesan Light Band and Moranbong Band as well as the families of the victims looked on," the source said. The source added that all of the families of the executed appear to have been sent to prison camps under North Korea's barbaric principle of guilt by association. Hyon was a singer with the Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble, which is famous for revolutionary and propaganda songs and one of North Korea's most popular bands. Mun won first place in an international competition in Hungary in 2005 and was decorated by the North Korean state. Kim Jong-un was last year seen at a performance that featured Disney characters and versions of Western songs, stoking hopes that the young leader is more open to ideas from overseas, but that was apparently a misreading. A source said, "Kim Jong-un has been viciously eliminating anyone who he deems a challenge to his authority." The executions "show that he is fixated on consolidating his leadership." With capital punishment, there is no turning back in the event of a wrongful conviction... Cannot imagine how Deluna's family is feeling right now. Hope he RIP. Having said that, I am still in favour of having the death penalty in our local system though I hope it is robust enough to ensure that no innocent party suffers. IIRC a guy was wrongly charged with murder with his brother in a robbery cum murder case in a HDB flat not too long ago but luckily his pro bono lawyer fought tooth and nail to clear his name and succeeded. His brother was, however, sentenced to death I think. From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp...1201353/1/.html Wrong man was executed in Texas, probe says Posted: 15 May 2012 1356 hrs

Tao Jing, a naturally beautiful Yunnan girl. As a result of carrying drugs for her boyfriend, she was sentenced to death in 1991, at only 20-years-old, becoming the youngest female to be executed in over 50 years. This image is a photo of Tao Jing after being arrested. From the image, relevant personnel can be clearly seen inspecting the items carried by Tao Jing. 1986, Song Dan was born to an average rural family in Nanyang township of Ruichang city of Jiangxi province. When she was 13-years-old, she was raped multiple times by a Nanyang Middle School teacher surnamed Song, and not long after again seduced multiple times into sexual relations by her uncle-in-law. Although these two offenders were respectively sentenced to 9 years and 8 years of imprisonment, they caused Song Dan great psychological damage. After she grew up, her parents

Are the new generation that senseless? I have the same perception when I read about the AMK Park killing. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-13678179 A Chinese student who murdered a woman to try to cover up a road accident has been executed, say state media. Yao Jiaxin, 21, was put to death in Xian, Shaanxi province in northern China on Tuesday. Yao is said to have stabbed 26-year-old mother Zhang Miao to death, fearing she would pursue him for compensation after he hit her with his car last October. The case - called "odious" by the Supreme Court - sparked a debate about the morality of young people. It caused renewed hand-wringing about the morals of the so-called "rich second generation" - the offspring of those who have prospered with China's economic expansion, say correspondents. Yao's parents reportedly worked in China's booming defence industries. Yao was a student at the Xian Conservatory of Music when he is said to have knocked over Zhang, a waitress, on her bicycle while driving in the city. According to reports she suffered only minor injuries in the collision but, believing she would report him to the police, Yao stabbed her eight times with a knife and fled the scene. 'Peasant woman' He is reported to have handed himself in to the authorities four days later, accompanied by his parents. But that was not considered grounds for leniency when he was tried by Xian's Intermediate People's Court, which convicted and sentenced him to death on 22 April. Yao confessed he killed Zhang because he feared the "peasant woman would be hard to deal with" over the accident, Xinhua said in an earlier report. The high court turned down his appeal and the death sentence was later approved by the Supreme People's Court.
