  1. Latest "casualty" of the COVID-19 outbreak... THE GENEVA INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW IS CANCELLED! #GIMSSWISS 5-15 March 2020 The 90th edition of the GIMS, which was supposed to welcome the media from next Monday and the general public from 5 to 15 March 2020, will now finally not take place. This is an injonction decision of the Federal Council of 28 February 2020 that no events with more than 1,000 people are allowed to take place until 15 March 2020. The decision falls 3 days before the opening of the exhibition to the media. The organizers accept this decision: "We regret this situation, but the health of all participants is our and our exhibitors' top priority. This is a case of force majeure and a tremendous loss for the manufacturers who have invested massively in their presence in Geneva. However, we are convinced that they will understand this decision," said Maurice Turrettini, Chairman of the Foundation Board. We would like to warmly thank all those involved in the organisation of the 2020 edition of GIMS. A few days before the opening of the event, the construction of the stands was very nearly complete. A week ago, during the press conferences announcing the 2020 edition, there was nothing to suggest that such a measure was necessary. The situation changed with the appearance of the first confirmed coronavirus diseases in Switzerland and the injonction of the Federal Council on 28.02.2020. The event is cancelled due to this decision. In the meantime, the dismantling of the event will now have to be organised. The financial consequences for all those involved in the event are significant and will need to be assessed over the coming weeks. One thing is certain: tickets already purchased for the event will be refunded. The organisers will communicate about this as soon as possible, via their website. Palexpo, 28 February 2020
  2. It seems like another new limited edition model like the Bugatti Divo will debut at the upcoming Monterey Car Week in California come August. As reported by The Supercar Blog, this new Bugatti will be produced in a low production number and could cost in excess of S$6.8 million like the Divo. Only 40 units of the Divo will be built and every single unit was sold before it was revealed in public. The new model will coincide with the 110th anniversary of the French car manufacturer and it seems apparent that the new model will join the Chiron 110 ans Bugatti and one-off La Voiture Noire to help celebrate this milestone. It is likely to be based around the Chiron and there have been reports that Bugatti is developing a new model with an even greater focus on weight saving and aerodynamics than the Divo. We will only know more about the car as we get closer to the event.
  3. It has been 45 years since Volkswagen commenced production of the Golf and more than 35 million units have been sold worldwide since. The Golf, which is also its best-selling model ever, is in its seventh generation now. The Golf Mk1 started production on 29th of March 1974 at Volkswagen's plant in Wolfsburg and was designed as the replacement of the iconic Beetle. It was an instant hit with buyers and just two years later, in October 1976, the German company sold its one millionth example. Fast forward to today's seventh generation, Volkswagen reckons that on average, someone is buying a new Golf every 41 seconds, every day, without interruption, for 45 years now. This year is likely to see the debut of the new eighth generation of the Golf. Information found on the web suggests that the car will debut around September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
  4. These are the first sketches of the Skoda Kamiqhttps://www.topgear.com/car-news/suvs/these-are-first-sketches-skoda-kamiq Right, let’s sort this out early on. The new Skoda Kamiq will be the smallest of the Czech brand’s three SUV offerings, putting it below the medium-sized Karoq and larger Kodiaq. Its rivals will be the likes of the Hyundai Kona, Nissan Juke and fellow Volkswagen Group little’uns the Seat Arona and VW T-Cross. For the sake of even more confusion though, Skoda is hoping to make the Kamiq slightly bigger than its competitors in order to score a point on interior space. So, it’s a big little SUV. Got it? Anyway – model minefield aside – based on the initial sketches that Skoda has released it’ll be a great looking thing. The front end is tall and imposing for a small (big) car and the split headlights have been flipped from the Karoq and Kodiaq – with sharp daytime runners above the main lights. The angular theme continues towards the back, where all lines converge to create a sporty-looking rear-end with Skoda spelt out along the boot. Whatever happened to logos? We don’t know anything more about what’s under the skin yet, but based on its sister cars from Seat and VW we can probably expect to get 1.0-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel versions here in the UK. The Kamiq will be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in early March. Like it, or will it fade into SUV obscurity? Let us know below… https://youtu.be/vMHehOIjzkc

  7. Jaguar congratulates Carvell Motorsport on debut win for Jaguar XF Diesel On its race debut, a Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel S, run by privateer squad, Carvell Motorsport, has won its class and finished as the leading diesel-powered vehicle at the Nurburgring 24hrs. http://www.xfforum.co.uk/threads/8611-Jagu...aguar-XF-Diesel Carvell Motorsport Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel S The XF, with Nathan Freke, Colin White and Rob Carvell at the wheel, was powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine producing 300PS and 600NM of torque. It completed 109 laps of the 14-mile track
  8. It will only be a matter of days to the launch of Peugeot's all new 208 in October 2011. Directly aimed at the likes of the Ford Fiesta and the Renault Clio, it is considered to be the most important model of the year for the automaker due to the supermini's popularity, especially in its native country. It will be smaller and lighter than the car it replaces, but the newcomer is aiming to make an even bigger splash than the top selling 207, thanks to distinctive looks and efficient engines. It will be one of the first cars in the supermini class to feature a removable touchscreen cabin-control system that owes at least some of its design to that of the iPad. With functions to upload and store maps, music and more, the device looks likely to be offered as standard on all but entry-level models. Leading the charge will be this sporty three-door version, which debuts alongside the five-door model. Both three and five-door cars will offer a wide range of petrol and diesel engines - including an innovative three-cylinder turocharged petrol unit offering almost 70mpg. However the star of the show is set to be a new 211bhp evolution of the 1.6-litre THP turbocharged engine available in the RCZ. The car, which some describes it as a spiritual successor to the famed 205 GTi, will be one of the fastest, most powerful small Peugeots ever built. Drivers can expect race-style bucket seats, and a thick rimmed steering wheel. The car will also get a large rear wing, and special trim on the sills and wheelarches to make it look that little bit meaner than the standard model. But despite this focus on performance, the car will also sport the latest fuel saving technologies, with stop and start and direct injection. With variable valve timing and a potent turbocharger the power on offer will only be one part of the effort to make this car a hot hatch to watch out for.
  9. this is quite interesting. i wonder if we may see a Red Flag if it rain. -------------- F1's driver safety union, the Grand Prix Drivers' Association, is concerned about the sport's forthcoming inaugural night race. The floodlit event, to be held on the streets of Singapore at the end of next month, will take place without any prior pre-race testing under lights. The official timetable for the weekend's action even affords precious little evening practice for the drivers, and despite speculation and reports of amendments, this has never been officially confirmed. "At the moment we still don't know what the schedule of the weekend will be," Toyota driver and GPDA stalwart Jarno Trulli told reporters at Valencia at the weekend. He said a major concern is the combination of the lights, the concrete-lined street circuit, and the unknown quantity of how rain might further complicate their visibility. "We are a little bit concerned," the Italian admitted. "We go there, we haven't tested, we don't have any idea. It's going to be a night race, it's going to be the rainy season, so it's not exactly what you really want from a safety point of view." "It doesn't look comfortable so far." Trulli said there is no point liaising with MotoGP riders about the situation, following the premier two-wheeled category's inaugural night race in Qatar earlier this year. "Because riding a bike is different to driving a car. And they were racing on a circuit and we are racing on a street circuit. They had run-off and we have walls," Trulli added. http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en

  11. ST 26/4 LESS than a year after Chery became the first China carmaker to enter the Singapore market, a fifth has joined the fray. Hafei Automobile, from China's north-eastern industrial city of Harbin, will launch two 1.1-litre models this weekend: the Lobo and the Minz. The Lobo is a hatchback while the Minz will be sold as a six-seater multi-purpose vehicle or a goods van. They will be distributed from a Kampong Ubi showroom by Hafei Automobile (Singapore), partly owned by Lian Fong Credit - the group which introduced the Chery nine months ago. A Singapore Hafei Automobile spokesman said the Lobo is likely to be priced at around $38,000 - some $5,000 more than the Chery QQ, which will retain the title of Singapore's cheapest car. The price of the Minz has not been fixed yet, but the spokesman indicated that it too will be costlier than the Chery. The cheapest non-China car on the market here is the Perodua Kelisa - a small hatchback going for $35,700. The Chinese invasion began in July last year, with Chery's debut. Geely followed in November, and Soyat and Dongfeng in January. The Straits Times understands that two more Chinese brands are due here this year. The Geelys are sold by entrepreneur Peter Kwee's Group Exklusiv - which also represents Soyat and Dongfeng. Although Hafei is set for this weekend's launch, its cars - and those of Soyat and Dongfeng - have not yet passed a Land Transport Authority inspection, without which they cannot be sold here. Both Chery and Geely have gone through the test and are chalking up good sales - largely because they are the cheapest cars in town. Today, there are more than 500 Cherys and 150 Geelys on Singapore's roads. In the first three months of this year, buyers here drove away with 230 Cherys and 121 Geelys. In the same period, 153 Peroduas, 711 Chevrolets and 1,062 Kias were sold - all slightly costlier. While the China car makes have made an encouraging debut, they have had their share of customer complaints. The most serious to date appears to be from finance and administrative assistant Koh Bee Leng, 30, who bought a $26,300 off-peak Geely CK in mid-February. Two days later, the battery indicator lamp lit up, prompting Ms Koh to send it for checks. No problem was found, but two weeks later the car would not start. It was towed to the workshop and the battery was replaced. However, the air-conditioner then sprang a leak and stopped working. It was repaired, but 'was not cold a week later'. It was back to the workshop once again when a window jammed. Ms Koh collected her car last Thursday, but by Sunday, 'the battery light started blinking again'. Mr Nicholas Ng, general manager for Mr Kwee's Geely business, said Ms Koh's case is an isolated one and that the company has made good to the customer. The Consumers Association of Singapore said it has not received any complaints about China cars.

  15. Manchester United football star Ryan Giggs made his motor racing debut when he tested a Smartnav SEAT Cupra Championship Leon Cupra R at Oulton Park. It was the first time the 31- year old Welsh international had driven a racing car on a circuit, yet he was soon up to full speed in the 150mph SEAT. The test was organised for A Question of Sport, in which Ryan appeared in the Mystery Guest round as a pit lane mechanic who takes over the driving after a pit stop from the 2001 British Touring Car Champion, Jason Plato. Unmistakeable in the famous red strip at Old Trafford, Ryan was equally instantly recognisable in a crash helmet and SEAT Sport UK racing overalls, as the panel had little trouble guessing who the mystery racing driver actually was. Ryan spent an afternoon with SEAT Sport UK and was shown the racing ropes by Plato and team-mate James Pickford. James, a former instructor at Oulton Park, took Ryan out in a road-going Leon Cupra R first to show him the correct racing lines and braking areas. Then Ryan left the Oulton Park pits in the 260PS turbo-charged Leon Cupra R racing car and completed 20 laps of the challenging Cheshire circuit without a problem. Ryan said:

  17. Swift comeback - Life! Motoring, 11 September 2004 - Christopher Tan SUZUKI has revived the popular Swift nameplate. The Japanese carmaker, part-owned by General Motors, will unveil the all-new Swift (above) at the Paris Motor Show two weeks from now. Based on the S2 concept car, it is about the length of the current Ignis subcompact, but broader. Sporting a modern design, and equipped with a 1.5-litre engine with variable valve-timing, the Swift is expected to debut at the Singapore Motor Show in November. Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual or four-speed auto. A sedan form, as well as a powerful GTi, are expected in the future. The Swift was a bestseller here in the early 1990s. Managed to get a picture of the new Swift!

Two versions will be available, both with five-door bodystyles and all-wheel-drive as standard. The entry level Saab 9-2X will be powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter engine and the top Aero model will feature a 227 bhp, 2.0-liter turbo unit.
