  1. https://uk.motor1.com/news/542379/ssangyong-to-be-sold-260million/ "SsangYong to be sold for only £188 million It wasn't a buttery smooth ride for the South Korean automaker. SsangYong is reportedly getting a fresh start, thanks to a six-year-old electric vehicle startup. The South Korean automaker filed for bankruptcy in December 2020 and is currently under court receivership. According to Nikkei Asia, SsangYong named an Edison Motors-led tie-up as its preferred bidder. The deal is said to be worth around $260 million,(approx. £188 million) according to the publication's sources. The automaker and the bidder are expected to finalise and ink a corporate agreement towards the end of November. Edison was founded in 2015 and is known to make electric buses and develop commercial trucks. Its interest in SsangYong can be attributed to its intention to penetrate the passenger vehicle market, with the aim to mass-produce passenger EVs in the automaker's factory in Pyeongtaek. To say that SsangYong Motor has a smooth-sailing corporate life would be blatant lie. Starting its life in 1986, South Korea's fourth-largest automaker began its world-renown in 1991 with its high-profile partnership with Daimler, enabling it to develop an SUV with Mercedes-Benz technology. Then in 1997, Daewoo bought a controlling stake at SsangYong. That was short-lived as Daewoo then sold off its shares. Chinese automaker SAIC bought a 51 percent stake of SsangYong in 2004. In 2009, the company reported a $75.42 million (£54.63 million) loss, putting the company under court receivership. Mahindra & Mahindra took over the company in 2011, costing the Indian company $463.6 million (£335.8 million). And while it looked like the Korean automaker was back on its feet during its time with Mahindra, it could not recover completely, which led to its current debt-laden state today. SsangYong isn't about to give up despite its long trail of troubles. The company has announced a design concept called the X200 showing its intention to capitalise on the rising tide of boxy SUVs."
  2. Chevrolet has confirmed it will stop selling cars across Europe at the end of 2015. The announcement came days after GM CEO Dan Akerson expressed his wish to put more distance between Germany-based Opel and the Bowtie brand. When the brand was launched in Europe in 2005, it focused on selling low-cost cars that were a little more than just rebadged, South Korean-built Daewoos. The business model was not popular and the company was hit hard by the economic crisis in Europe few years ago. Chevrolet tried to move upmarket and woo European buyers by focusing on its American heritage, but customers were not convinced by the company's new image and sales have been lingering at under 200,000 units with no signs of improvement. The final nail in Chevrolet's coffin came from Opel, GM's main European division. Most of the two companies' products are aimed at the same target audience and GM believes that shuttering Chevrolet will help Opel to return to profitability in its home market after years of crippling losses. Iconic Chevrolet models like the Corvette and the Camaro will continue to be imported with a Bowtie emblem but they will likely be distributed through Opel dealerships. Similarly, Opel dealerships will honor Chevrolet warranties and provide owners with parts and service. It is unsure how many jobs will be lost once Chevy's European arm shuts down.

  6. [extract] The Daewoo badge will soon be history on cars in South Korea. General Motors Co. is killing the long-used GM Daewoo name in South Korea and will be putting the Chevy bowtie on its cars there by end of March. The name, GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co., has been in use since GM took over the struggling South Korean automaker in 2002. The new name will be GM Korea Co. The company said in a statement: GM plans to make the changeover with the first-quarter launch of the Camaro, the automaker's first Chevrolet-badged entry in the South Korean market. The sports car is one of eight new or refreshed Chevrolet models scheduled for launch in South Korea this year. Other nameplates include the Spark and Aveo small cars, Cruze compact, Orlando small minivan and Capitva SUV.
  7. Good Day Mr silver Daewoo Tacuma/Chevrolet Vivant or whatever korean car it is. I just hope whoever you are rushing to makes it or if your wife is giving birth she gets a healthy baby because it ain't worth the number of lives including myself just now at Upper thomson road towards Braddell at 545pm. The times we spent together where you nearly side-swiped me 2 times and cut in front of other motorists left me in awe at how bad your overtaking skills are. And next time, wind down your windows so i can hear what you are actually saying instead of shouting swear words and curses with the windows up. I can't hear you my friend. Plus you were so smartly dressed i couldn't believe such unciviclized words came out with your wide open mouth and the need to whip out your BRAND NEW Nokia camera phone. P.S. I hope you do post the pictures you took of me and my bike. I havent had a decent picture of myself with my bike. Hope theres no bad blood between us. Next time, no longer on my 2-wheeler; its my 4-wheeler against you. Cheers

  11. I used to try starting up a Daewoo forum club but seems than nobody even bothers. I think it's actually the brand name Daewoo that "stops" people from loving the car here. Ever since the change of name to Chevrolet, I am surprise that there is so called a "fan club" here. I am driving a super RARE Daewoo Nexia(A) and looking for someone who drives one too. I think only 5 or 6 running on our road now. I have urge my dad to buy the Chevrolet Optra and didn't think he will buy as he is quite "Japanese" but he bought it in January when he saw the car in the showroom as it is simply huge and a beauty... didn't even bother to test drive. I intend to buy a Black Optra after my nexia scrap in 1yr++ time but my dad driving a Red Optra and sounds silly to buy the same car as my dad. Actually, I know this car is gonna replace the Nubira since early last year and have been keeping track of it till it reach here. Vivant is only available as a manual for the 1.6 and will be "old" by the time I want to buy. Aveo is a little too small as i want a 1.6. Lumina is real cool but too big as it's a 3.8. I think i will buy the Lumina (Holden Commodore/Opel Omega) if I strike toto or 4D, I am impress by the chunky doors and the cup holder, not to mention it's a rear wheel drive. So... the Chevy people here meet up regularly? I think i will have to drive my dad's car to meet up as I own a Daewoo.

  18. Check the link: http://www.chevrolet.co.uk/ The Aveo still retains the name Kalos! They got the 3-door version on sale. Comes in S (1.2L SOHC) and SX (1.4L DOHC). They got the 1.8L Lacetti Sport (Optra5 Sport). Uses 16" alloys. Interestingly, the Aveo's 1.4L DOHC engine is 77.9mm bore and 73.4mm stroke is the same as the Lacetti Sport's 1.8L DOHC engine spewing out 122PS .
