Went to Autobacs to do a tyre rotation & balancing. The mechanic told me that there is a crack at my front control arms and suggest I change both to an OEM one for $600 incl labour. Though I can't really tell if its cracked or not, can I check if this is a critical component to be changed? I'm driving FD1 (now about 6 yrs old). Wondering if I can use it till COE expire..

Critical Illness as we all know can bankrupt families. Do you guys have any CI coverage? If yes, to what age and what kind of coverage? I'm currently reviewing my plan, does it makes sense to extend coverage to 99 or 100 years? Or just cover till 60 then after that rely on MediShield?

With so much death and sickness around, I am thinking of buying the above, anyone can share with me the pros and cons of the above, given it is a long term commitment and will cost $1300 a year without any returns.... Serious question, pls do not flame me saying that I am a half past six financial planner.

May 16, 2008 Mom pushes children to safety but hit by lorry By Lee Pei Qi A MOTHER, out on a morning walk with her two children, pushed her teenage daughter and toddler son to safety when she saw an out-of-control lorry veering towards them at Toa Payoh on Friday. But she was hit herself and is fighting for her life now in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The housewife in her 40s, identified only as Madam Shanti, was taking a leisurely stroll with her eldest daughter, Pratheepa, 15, and three-year-old son along Lorong 8 - near their flat in Block 255 - when a container truck and a lorry laden with vegetables collided into each other at about 9.45 am. The impact sent the lorry skidding across the road where the three pedestrains were walking. Instintively, Madam Shanti pushed her daugther and son away from the path of the runaway lorry. But it was too late for her to avoid the lorry, which hit her and sent her flying into the air. She landed on the pavement a few metres away, bleeding profusely. She was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and underwent emergency surgery. Her son suffered a fractured hip when he fell and was taken to Kandang Kerbau Hospital. A distraught Pratheepa told The Straits Times at the TTSH: 'It was a nightmarish sight seeing my mum being flung up into the air.' 'She did not think about her own safety when she pushed us to safety. I am very worried about her.' Pratheepa said she has another sister, Nithia, 13, who was in school when the accident happened. OK its been raining for the past few days and now I got a chance to test out something. Wiper wash fluid. I've been sending my car to the washers in JB and just as I have expected, most car wash shampoos have something what I would call "cheater wax". Now this is not just in wash and wax shampoos. It is also in normal car wash shampoo. This component helps the car dry faster. So whether you like it or not, this cheater wax will be on your windshield. My windshield with its wettable surface thanks to CeO treatment has now become beading. The difference is that this can be restored if I wash it thoroughly with household detergent. Well, I didn't and now the wipers are juddering because of this cheater wax. The last time I used only water. Here is the problem with water only. Water does not have grease cutting power. The other problem is that it does not have lubricity that the wipers need. Water is not wetting when it comes to such a wax treated surface. So I went on to concoct this super strong version made of distilled water, ethanol, household ammonia and a wee bit of dishwashing detergent. Results are fantastic. Wipers moved like ice on ice but here lies the problem. There was plenty of foaming! Surface tension of the liquid was so low that the detergent became super effective. Each squirt brought about lots of foamy stuff. Caused streaking as well. BTW, I used only 1 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid detergent for 1USGAL of the formulation. So after this ran out, I used Armoall wiper wash additive. Not bad. At Autobaccs, can buy 1 bottle for $6.70 compared to the $7+ elsewhere like Homefix DIY. Lubricity was restored. Herein lies the other factor. Cost. It can be used for 5-6 2.5L wiper wash reservoirs. Now that the rains are here, I use lots of it. Anytime the wipers start to judder, I just squirt and the judder disappears for a while. I wanted cost reduction. OK so here is what I came up with and here are the reasons. Wiper wash fluid is basically a mixture of an alcohol and some window cleaner component like household ammonia with nonionic detergents. I decided to eliminate alcohol. Alcohol prevents freezing. Critical in other places with winter. If your wiper wash fluid freezes, that's the end of your wash pump. This leaves the cleaner component. Going by the way the Amorall wiper wash is diluted. I decided to make it with window cleaner. 2 cups of window cleaner with 1USGAL of water. That is around 5L. So for a 2.5L wash reservoir, 1cup of window cleaner should be sufficient. 1 metric cup is 250mL. So far, it is OK. Low streaking because of the low foaming. Will not harm window tints because the ammonia is very low after dilution. Still maintains lubricity for the wipers. I will try something more concentrated after this runs out. Maybe 1.5cups to a wash reservoir and see. Will keep you all posted.

Hi Guys... have to ask some really noob questions so please bear with me k.. thanx in advance. 1. Does the engine oil last until your first servicing for new car? 2. If 1/2 way engine oil level v low, is it ok to just buy and pour in? 3. If can pour in, why need to flush engine oil and add new one? 4. New car 5k oredi engine oil level near empty, wad reason can it be? Went to check the engine oil level and found it near empty, heart nearly jump out. Wonder wad will happen if i keep driving the car and never check. Engine Oil leak?!!?! Jon

If I eyeing on Getz instead of Matrix now, there is no ABS. I saw one posting before that ABS is a must for him/her, can lao jiao here give some advice?
