  1. https://www.everydayhealth.com/hs/guide-to-constipation-relief/bowel-movements-whats-normal/ Not everyone has a bowel movement every day, and it doesn't mean something's wrong if you don't. Discover what being regular really means, and what to do when constipation symptoms strike. Bowel health is an important topic, as changes in bowel movements can be a sign of a health problem. But before you begin to worry about how “normal” you are, you have to know what a regular bowel movement is for you. Many people wrongly believe that having regular bowel movements means you move your bowels every day. However, everyone’s bowels are unique to them, and what’s normal for one person may not be normal for another. You can have a bowel movement anywhere from one to three times a day at the most, or three times a week at the least, and still be considered regular, as long as that’s your usual pattern. More or less frequent would be considered abnormal, but not necessarily cause for alarm, says gastroenterologist Arthur Magun, MD, clinical professor of medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in New York City. What Happens With a Bowel Movement Digestion begins in your mouth and stomach and ends in your bowels — the lower parts of your digestive tract. When the food you eat reaches your bowels, the water and salts that remain are absorbed. The digested food that is left becomes more solid and exits as bowel movements. Dr. Magun explains that normal bowel movements “consist of formed, brown stools, not too hard, not too loose.” When stools are too loose, you can have diarrhea. When they are too hard and dry, you can be constipated. Symptoms of constipation include not having a bowel movement for more than three days and having hard, dry stools that are painful or difficult to pass. What Causes Constipation A variety of circumstances can cause constipation, including a change in routine such as when travelling, becoming pregnant, dieting, taking certain medications, and lacking physical exercise, particularly in older people. Certain health conditions, from a bowel disease to stroke, can also be a factor. Everyone has their own normal pattern of bowel movements, but if you find that you frequently experience symptoms of constipation, and if eating more fiber and drinking more water doesn’t help, see a doctor. He can determine whether a health check is necessary. Here’s what you can do to promote regular bowel movements: Eat more fiber. “Constipation is almost always due to inadequate fiber and liquid,” Magun says. Fiber can be found in beans, fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Strive for 20 to 35 grams of fiber a day. “Unprocessed bran is the best type of fiber,” he adds. Eat fewer low-fiber foods. These include ice cream, cheese, meat, processed food, and sugary foods such as soda and candy — which can all cause constipation. Drink more. “Eating enough bran and drinking the right amounts of water will lead to increased bulk within the intestine,” Magun says. Having the right amount of bulk stretches the intestine (a muscle) and causes it to contract and propel food along properly. “This is what leads to regular bowel movements,” he adds. Besides water, good choices are 100-percent fruit juices (juice with pulp has some fiber), soup, and tea. Don’t rely on laxatives. Improper use of laxatives can actually make symptoms of constipation worse, so take them only as directed. Reduce stress. “Stress can sometimes cause the large intestine to spasm, leading to pain and hard stools,” Magun says. Stress-reducing techniques that can improve constipation symptoms include yoga, meditation, and exercise. Don’t ignore the urge to go. Resisting the urge to go or waiting to go to the bathroom also can cause constipation — or make existing symptoms worse.
  2. Seems like the gambling ( legal type) have increased with the economic boom we are currently experiencing. I can see more ppl spending more than desirable in placing bets for various forms of gambling availiable under legal betting houses and the authorities are really not addressing the issue well or keeping a control of ppl from getting addicted. By personal view is that if one would to consistently spend more than $50 per month on bets of any kind , it would be considered that there is a HIGH POSSIBILITY OF A GAMBLING ADDICTION IN THAT PERSON. But I get different views of what qualifies as a gambling addiction of the ppl I had asked. What's your view?
  3. Last week I was driving along clementi with my wife and maid in the car. We were on our way home after dinner. I was driving along a small road at slow speed, maybe around 40 km/hr. suddenly an old man walked onto the road and I hit him. He fell. I came out and see how is he. He sprained his ankle and was bleeding from his abrasions on his leg. But he was generally ok. I was damn pissed, just because he anyhow walk, now I got more trouble. I was cursing abit. Anyway after checking that he is alright, I gave my IC, insurance copy and driving licence to my maid and asked her to stay with the old man while I called the ambulance and police. I wanted to rush home to watch the Chelsea and spurs match. So I told the maid to stay with the old man. And told her to tell the police that I will go down to the station a few hours later. I was pisses with the stupid old man. I also don't think I can watch the game in peace. I then drove off but my wife kept scolding me and ask me to return. In the end, I made a U turn and went back. So If I didn't go back, is it considered hit and run? I asked my maid to render assistance. I gave all my particulars to my maid. I will also go police station avert the match

  5. From CNA: http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?act=po...w_post&f=15 MAIDS' WEEKLY DAY OFF Employers' concerns considered, says MOM Published on Mar 13, 2012 SENTIMENTS expressed in recent Forum letters on the weekly rest day requirement for foreign domestic workers (FDWs) are largely similar to those that the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) encountered during its extensive consultation exercise on the review of the FDW management framework since June last year. Some of the feedback have been incorporated, including the flexibility of mutually agreeing when rest days should fall, or compensation with a day's wage. A few called for a reduction or removal of the levy. The levy serves to moderate demand for FDWs and ensures that only employers who need and have the financial means to hire them are able to do so. Singapore already has one of the world's highest number of FDWs per 1,000 households. While significantly higher wages would also moderate demand and increase our attractiveness as a place to work for quality FDWs, it remains unclear that the market-determined wages of all FDWs will in fact adjust proportionately to levy reductions. Previous levy reductions did not result in a corresponding rise in wages. The majority of households in Singapore with young children, elderly or disabled members already enjoy a $95 monthly levy concession. Together with the $120 FDW grant for households with frail elderly people or persons with severe disabilities, these concessions are more than adequate to cover the rise in costs from compensating FDWs for working on their rest days. Since January 2010, the MOM has already removed employers' liability if FDWs breach work permit conditions that relate to their own behaviour. The ministry does not forfeit employers' security bonds if FDWs violate their own work permit conditions, for instance, if they moonlight or get pregnant. In reality, the ministry forfeits very few security bonds each year. We are currently reviewing the employers' obligations for medical and repatriation costs for exceptional circumstances that they have little or no control over. Concerns have also been raised about employment terms and the activities of FDWs on their rest days. As with any employment relationship, FDWs do negotiate for better terms, whether they have rest days or otherwise. Any change must be agreed upon by both employer and FDW. The MOM is stepping up audits to ensure employment agencies facilitate better matches between employers and FDWs. It is also working closely with various stakeholders to educate FDWs on appropriate behaviour on their days off, and offer activities to help them spend their rest days productively. 7. I was going to have dinner at AMK Botak Jones this evening but when I turned into the carpark in front of the HDB block, all the lots were taken, so I waited in my car for a lot to free up. Already saw this auntie from Chubb walking around with what looks like a machine used for issuing summons. Nothing to do with me I thought. Who knows, she came over and knocked on my window. auntie: Sir, you cannot park here. me: I'm just waiting for a lot. auntie: This is a service road, you cannot park here. me: Is it? I thought this is a carpark? If I dont wait for a lot here, where should I go? (already sounding pek chek) auntie: You just cannot park here. I dont want to argue with you. (auntie walks off saying some stuff I cannot discern, meanwhile keying in something on her machine) Saw her driving off in her Chubb civic later. So what the heck did I do wrong here? Am I going to get a summon for this? The sign at the road clearly states this is a carpark. I wasnt blocking the way. Who the hell is the auntie from Chubb anyway?

  11. hey everyone, thought I would share my experience... went to buy a replacement set of ball joints for my ford focus and went to the workshop to change. After taking out the ball joints, teh mechanic realised that the joints are too small for my car. Called the stockist that I bought from, he says he got the size wrong from the UK stockist he bought from and ask me to wait for the replacement parts to be flown in... how to wait? the car is up on the lift and teh boss needs the lift for business, so he suggests that i just change the entire lower arm assembly for the entire front. He will foot half the costs of whatever the other stockist quotes him, so the left is just 140 and the right could potentially be 250 as he is getting the part from regent motors, while my car sits on the lift for another day... feel really insecure, but have to go through with it. Thank goodness he is at least a reputable parts stockist, can't imagine what would happen otherwise...
  12. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/photo/getFullSizePhoto.do?id=23090 STOMPer Sharlene wonders why this jacked-up Land Rover, that has been parking at an HDB carpark in Commonwealth for months, has not been issued with summons. "There are no parking tickets or an RFID disc on the car. Not sure if this is a foreign licence plate also," she says. The STOMPer adds: "Maybe because it has been jacked up, so the parking attendant can't reach to put any summon tickets? "Or is it because the tyres do not touch the ground, it is not considered as 'parked'?" The STOMPer says the Land Rover is depriving other vehicles of parking space. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singapor...nt.jsp?id=24429
  13. Any MCFers out there have been in similar situation as shared below and willing to share your experiences: I have left my last job 2 weeks ago. On the last day with the company, I have received a cheque as settlement for the salary outstanding. The cheque was post-dated to 31 Oct 2007 as the company did not have sufficient funds to pay me at that time. Assuming I deposit the cheque on 31 Oct morning for clearing and the amount is reflected in the holding section when I check my account through ATM in the afternoon, may I conclude that the cheque did not bounce and that the funds will be credited to my bank account the next day (01 Nov)? If not, at which stage will the bank consider the cheque as bounced?
  14. Hey folks, I did a silly thing this morning. I'm a noobie driver (1 mth experience). Was travelling on PIE this morning, and I missed my exit. So I thought I could "u-turn" at the next exit, the type where it is a cross junction below the highway. Problem is when I doing that "u-turn" (not sure if this is legal or not), the light at the opposite entrance to the expressway is red. I was unsure what to do and just went straight past that red light and joined backed into the opposite direction of the PIE. Is this considered beating the red light? Are there traffic cameras at this kind of junctions? So worried cos I just got my license and dun wanna it to be revoked. What a silly thing I did. Complete noob Pls help / advise. Thanks a million.
  15. We have been on alot of topics regarding road hogging. most of the time, we refer to road hogging as on expressway. however, do you 'consider' a driver as road hogger if he is occupying lane 1 on 2-3 lane roads even when the road is clear?
  16. ... for a 1.6 auto Jap car. Look at trip meter and petrol gauge in picture.
  17. 3rd puncture in 2 weeks, happened while driving on Airport Rd. The road condition there is horrible due to construction of KPE. Mud and crap everwhere .... Is this considered as a sidewall puncture? Have retired this tyre to the spare compartment, the other 2 tyres which I'm currently using were punctured on the thread. Did interal patching for all 3 tyres.
  18. I'm looking at the CSC2 in Stamford but the earliest batch is made in June 2003! Based on this info, is it advisable to buy them?
  19. Just like to hear from u guys about the above ques. I collected my car abt 3 weeks ago. Mileage is 1500km and went servicing last week. This morning, added a Fuelmax magnet (from old car). The throttle felt lighter e.g. feel of RON98 but actually using RON95. Intend to do grounding these few days. In my mind, these 2 mods are not major because they dont' actually change the engine's workflow. My sense of major mods include ECU piggyback, open-cone, CAI.... etc. So will the above 2 mods actually do more harm than good?
