More than 5,000 bikes sent back to Malaysia since the borders closed!
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
If you have been wondering why there have been a drop in Malaysian motorbikes on our roads, here's why... According to a report from Chinese newspaper Zaobao, more than 5,000 bikes have since been transported back to Malaysia while their owners choose to stay in Singapore as the reopening of borders between Singapore and Malaysia remains unknown. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Malaysian employees that travel back and forth daily into Singapore have been affected. This number stands at an estimated 300,000 and many of these people enter our country by motorbikes while some drive in. In order to save entry permit fees and other expenses, the authorities have assisted Malaysian workers who are stuck or choose to stay in Singapore ever since the closing of borders by returning more than 5,000 motorcycles and cars to Malaysia in the past five months. A manager of one of these transport companies that provides this service has revealed that about 3,000 motorcycles have been transported across the border by them since June. At its peak, his company handled 120 bikes a day. He was quoted saying that many of these workers consider the $4 daily entry permit fee and other expenses too much to handle, choosing instead to take public transport in Singapore. Another company added on that some of the bike owners even decided to sell the motorcycles immediately after returning them to Johor. Once the transport company obtains the approval of the relevant authorities in Malaysia, it will conduct a physical screening for their driver before sending them over into Johor. To prevent the entire shipment of vehicles from being detained, the motorcycles that are being transported over must be fulled up and are checked to ensure that their license plates match the respective vehicle. It is understood that the cost of transporting a motorcycle back to Johor Bahru is between $80 to $150. -
Youths use Circuit Breaker period to ride PMDs in CTE tunnel!
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
With roads pretty much empty under this current semi-lockdown period, some youths have been spotted making use of the empty roads to ride their PMDs. As seen on a facebook page SG Reckless PMD Riders, three youths can be seen in the short Instagram video riding next to each other at high speed in the CTE Tunnel. Admittedly, the clip isn't of the best quality but it does seem like they were doing in excess of 40km/h, well over the speed limits of e-scooter. Of course, it doesn't matter as no one is allowed to be using their PMDs on the public road. In fact, they aren't even supposed to be out of their homes at all and going for joyrides! Check out some of the comments on the page. Not suprisingly, they were not very pleasant. SG-Reckless-PMD-Riders-PMD-high-speed-at-CTE-Facebook.mp4 -

Hope fellow bros and sisters can advise... pardon me if the explanation is not clear To switch on a car headlights, just turn the signal knob right? Turn once, for small lights plus fog lamp (if toggled on) and turn fully for big lights plus fog lamp (if toggled on). Now the current issue... Fog lamp is toggled on. Turn knob once but no lights from headlights nor fog lamp, not even rear lights! But when brakes are depressed, rear lights and brake light activated. HUD headlights icon not shown. Fog lamp still toggled on. Fully turned the knob, this time big headlights activated however it is not the case for fog lamp and rear lights. HUD headlights icon still not shown. I've changed a new battery but problem still persist. So what's the problem here? Which component is spoilt or faulty?

I had a steering sound problem. So I was at my usual workshop on Saturday (OPC), getting them to check if the steering wheel bushing or the shaft was required changing. About 30 mins after I left the car there, they called and said that the steering wheel bushing was ok, and the shaft had to be changed. I had no time to leave the car for 3 hours, so I told them next time. It was the day, so I didn't check the lights (didn't make sense to also). The dashboard lights were normal, so I drove and went to have fun. In the evening, it was dark, so I had to switch on the headlights. That was when I realised the dashboard lights were unlit. When I switched off the headlights, the dashboard lights came back. This affected the gear indicator (R was unaffected), aircon display, clock display. Turning signals ran fine, my headlights were on fine, tailights were ok. Only the dashboard backlights. So i went down to my workshop today and see if they could spot anything fast (like check back what they had did on Saturday). Much theorycrafting later (without actually checking back the procedure they had done on Saturday, they had removed the power steering, so could be the connection?), they asked me to leave the car at the workshop to check wiring. So I didn't (had to go to work), and I probably have to waste the coming Saturday for them to check. Being not a believer of coincidence, it's quite hard for me to survive in a place full of coincidences such as car workshops. So I thought to ask if anyone had the same experience before, so as to be better equipped. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

It is the annual Formula One race this weekend - for the sixth time. And if you're reading this, you would have known that the Singapore Grand Prix is the only night race in the entire race calendar. And that we will continue to have a taste of the high-octane event for the next five years (including the current). But with the race failing to keep up the passion for motorsports on our local grounds, how will things fare afterwards? The small nation has proven that it has the capacity to hold an event of such scale (and glamour). What's arguable lies in its ability to keep the passion running, and strong. Of course, being a small country has its disadvantages. For instance, we cannot simply rely on the locals to fill the seats, although that was never part of the equation. Hence, the need for more promotion on Rihanna and Justin Bieber rather than Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. But by keeping the crowds entertained with different sort of actions (on the stage rather than neck-breaking, ear-piercing ones on the track), we do wonder if that is a good thing to do. Then again, what is the definition of a 'good' thing? All of us have different motives. The authorities want revenue and fame, the public - whatever that catches their attention, and motoring nuts - to keep the motorsports passion alive. We can go on and rant about the dying art, and how it wouldn't have made it if it went the orthodox way - pure, adrenaline-filled racing without the trackside 'distractions'. Let's, then, talk about the future. More night races to join the calender would diminish the edge we have over other races, which means we're running out of novelty. And less participation may just spell doom for the sports. Or maybe there isn't one here, for motorsports, to begin with.

If you are given an opportunity to 'race' on the very Singapore GP Circuit in your own ride, how much are you willing to forkout for that experience and the thrills? 'Race' - may not be at the speed of the F1 cars but this is just for "I have been on it".

For those who like to have a look at how tracking is like. =) Blair Witch video-ing, for those with nausea, pls do not click on the below. 2 laps, 2 styles of driving. 1st lap clocked about 1:57, 2nd lap clocked at about 1:56. Daily car, except for the exhaust. Exhaust was swapped with a race muffler at PG, and swapped back to a stock muffler when returning back to Singapore. Full interior including back seats, back panels. Original sound dampening, moon roof. 15 inch tires. Weighed at PG weighing machine at 1140KG without boot box and driver. Cheers!

9/10 May Spain after more than a week or so, F1 returns to the track for some serious business this is where the public like us like to see racing, not silly stupid politics the circuit in spain has a layout that is well balanced so it is a good indicator of overall car balance. a car that performs in barcelona has the potential to perform well at many places and most teams will have some, if not a lot of updates, for their cars so i will be very eager to see who get it right, and who still lack pace/ down force although, personally, i'm not a ferrari fan i will like to see that they improved otherwise it will be very disappointing for many fans schedule: FRI Practice 1 16:00 FRI Practice 2 20:00 SAT Practice 17:00 SAT Qualifying 20:00 SUN Race 20:00

This is what happen when you drive in the rain using Neova AD07! Ha ha! The front panel goes way in and hit the turbo resulting in crack manifold and a hairline crack in the engine head!

According to the track manager, in his 20+ years working at the track, he has not encountered anything like this. Usually is ppl bang wall, tyre puncture or other whatnots. Post pic first. Later let the owner come in tell story himself.

Here's another quote from Ferrari President Montezemolo taken from http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news...023092215.shtml "The real problem is with the new circuits that are there just for show. I think Monaco is enough," he said. Hmm.. wonder which F1 circuit he's referring to?

Hi bro/sis, Got an Ariston built-in oven that's not been used for 4 years.. Recently, I use it to toast some nuts and set temp at 100 degrees. It was ok for 30 minutes and suddenly short-circuit the house.. From then on, it will short-circuit everytime I turn it on. (1) Any idea what could have caused it? (2) Any recommendation for a table-top Grill-oven (for simple use, hardly bake)? Thanks!

I see the circuit and skid pan being used for driving practices, first drives and tests... I wonder, wouldn't it be good if it were used to hold motorsports events in the meantime.. Just required some resurfacing... Feel free to comment..
