https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/gm-crate-engine-zz632-1000-horsepower/ "GM's 1,000 hp 632 cubic-inch crate engine is its largest and most powerful ever This monstrous motor clocks in at over 10.3 liters of displacement and makes more than 1,000 horsepower on pump gas without a turbo or nitrous. This 1,004-horsepower monster is the biggest crate engine GM has ever offered. They say that when it comes to making power and torque, there is no replacement for displacement. While that's slightly less true these days with super-efficient turbocharged engines and EVs, the folks at General Motors are holding fast to that ideology with their latest crate engine, the ZZ632/1000, which clocks in at a whopping 632 cubic inches of displacement and which was announced on Wednesday. For those of you not accustomed to working in old money, that's 10.36 liters. For comparison's sake, the utterly massive Dodge Viper engine only weighed in at 8.4 liters and with two more cylinders. As its somewhat unwieldy name suggests, the 632-cubic-inch crate engine produces a whopping 1,004 naturally aspirated horsepower. It also makes 876 pound-feet of torque, and it does both on 93-octane pump gas. Apart from its displacement, there are a few notable features that make the ZZ632 special. Chief among these are the aluminum RS-X symmetrical port cylinder heads, which, unlike many previous big block head designs, have identically sized intake and exhaust ports for each cylinder, which helps ensure that all the engine's eight cylinders produce the same power. The ZZ632 shares its block architecture with GM's only slightly less elephantine ZZ572 crate engine but features a bore that's been increased by 0.040-inch. The engine's stroke has also been lengthened over the ZZ572's by 0.375-inch, which accounts for the bulk of the displacement increase. The engine also features forged steel connecting rods and crankshaft, which helps with engine longevity. GM claims that the ZZ632 withstood 200 simulated dragstrip passes without issue. Unlike some of its other high-performance crate engine offerings, GM isn't placing a cap on ZZ632 production, and, in even better news for speed freaks, the engines will be kept in stock rather than being built to order. We don't have pricing yet for this monster of an engine, but we suspect it will land somewhere north of the approximately $16,300 that is being charged for the ZZ572."

The new Chevrolet Cruze has not been brought in as of 2017. This model has been speculated to come on sale in sg by first or second quarter of 2018 (iirc) And since there is only talk about this model but no threads on it, I decided to take the initiative to start this thread. This model, if priced correctly, can sell adequately. For this model, there is only a 1.4 turbocharged Petrol or a 1.6 turbocharged Diesel engine, so the 1.6 NA will not be back... Dimensions : Wheelbase:2700mm Length:4666mm 4453mm(hatchback) Width:1795mm Height:1458mm 1465mm(hatchback) Weight:1195-1300 kg* * Chinese models. Rest of them are international (us ) models. Thanks.

National Corvette Museum may preserve sinkhole as tourist attraction
Deeq posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
The people at the National Corvette Museum are hoping to turn a catastrophe into an opportunity for continued success. Since all eight cars eaten by the 40-foot wide and 60-foot deep sinkhole were removed and put on display, the museum has seen an uptick in visitors to check the wrecked 'Vettes out. According to CNN, attendance was up over 50 percent for March. The next step might be stabilizing the hole and making it a permanent part of the Skydome hall along with some of the most damaged cars. Several of the eight Corvettes appear to be salvageable as well. The museum's board of directors meets with restorers in May to decide the next step. However, a few of them, like the Mallett Hammer, might be beyond repair. It now looks like little more than a twisted ball of metal and may remain on display in that condition. The board is also considering what to do about the sinkhole. "There is a possibility of leaving it here. Whether, it's just a portion or all of it, having a bridge over it, stairs that go down in it, a glass floor on top where you can look down," said Katie Frassinelli from the National Corvette Museum to CNN. "We're talking to the construction company and engineers just to see the possibilities." It would definitely be a unique exhibit. -
A 1993 40th Anniversary Chevrolet Corvette is unstrapped from the crane that removed it from a sinkhole at the National Corvette Museum on Monday. Two of the eight Corvettes swallowed Feb. 12 by a sinkhole at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky., were lifted out of the hole and placed back in the showroom. As a crowd of spectators cheered and thousands of viewers watched online, the 2009 ZR1 Blue Devil -- one of two cars on loan from General Motors -- and the 1993 Ruby Red 40th anniversary edition were lifted by a crane and placed at ground level. The Blue Devil, which appears to have endured minor damage during its nearly 30-foot plunge, was driven about 20 feet to the museum's doorway, said Katie Frassinelli, a museum spokeswoman. Video of the retrieval showed that the Ruby Red 40th anniversary edition sustained broken windows and severe damage to its front and rear. Retrieval of a black 1962 model will be much "trickier" as a five-ton slab of concrete rests on the front of the vehicle, the museum said. Two cranes will be used to simultaneously lift the car and the concrete, the museum said. Other Corvettes to be retrieved are a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder, the other car on loan from GM; a 1984 PPG pace car; the 1-millionth Vette, built in 1992; a 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06; and the 2009 1.5-millionth Corvette. Recovery of the vehicles is expected to take through Aug. The museum plans to display each vehicle after it is recovered until all eight are taken together to a small shop within GM Design in suburban Detroit for restoration. Webcams are positioned around the sinkhole and pictures are available on the museum's Web site.

A 40-foot sinkhole opened up under the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky on Wednesday and swallowed eight collector cars, including the historic one millionth Corvette built in 1992. No injuries were reported, but a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder and a 2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil” on loan from General Motors Co were among the iconic cars piled up in the gaping pit. It seems almost Biblical in a way, to have the ground open up and swallow the cream of the collection of the museum, what are the odds? Alarms went off early Wednesday morning in the “Skydome” area and museum security officers who rushed to the scene discovered the sinkhole, 25 to 30 feet (7.6 to 9m) deep. The Bowling Green Fire Department estimated its width at 40 feet (12m). Security camera footage posted on the museum’s web site shows two cars falling in as the hole opens up. Museum spokeswoman Laura Johnson said other cars near the sinkhole have been safely removed, and the museum was now trying to find a way to pull up the damaged Corvettes. Evidently, 'what to do next' includes moving other cars in their collection that might be at risk due to the sinkhole. Because the museum operates so many webcams, it's been possible to follow the action unfolding live. Teams of people have been pushing Corvette display cars of all years and descriptions through the museum's carpeted halls, but it isn't immediately clear where these cars are going. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0im-l411P1M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5FG9_mGWPo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbQF8_ZcwQk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k05VvKHsWaw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IukDWhf7U9I

The Chevrolet Aveo may no longer be produced in South Korea
RchLuvSlly posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Bad news has just struck workers at the South Korean General Motors (GM) plant. According to American automaker Chevrolet, it isn't likely to perform production of the next generation Aveo in the aforementioned Asian country. The announcement came last Thursday, mentioning that the next generation compact car from Chevrolet, the Aveo, would be produced in China and US exclusively instead. Unfortunately, this has provoked a reaction from the worker union. If GM sticks to its plan, a threat of the union striking seems inevitable. Honestly speaking, this announcement from the US-based automaker came at such an improper time. GM Korea and the union are actually holding wage talks and have not had a smooth start. This is even more reason for the union to launch their strike, with the strike being the union's biggest legitimate weapon they can use to defend themselves. According to GM, though, it seems that it is no longer profitable for the company to keep building the Aveo in the country despite the fact that South Korea has been producing 40 percent of all Chevrolet cars that are sold worldwide. The reason for GM to switch production to other countries is mostly due to the rising wages in South Korea. And, the Aveo isn't the only model affected. GM has also announced that it will no longer produce the Chevrolet Cruze in the country, either. Taking everything into account, it seems that GM will stick to its plan indeed. On the other hand, it seems that the workers in the union are also determined to launch their strike. With that being said, this may turn out to be quite a huge problem, not only for Chevrolet and the workers but probably for us as well who are thinking about buying a Chevy. -
If you're a car fan, chances are you're somehow familiar with the 'Transformers' franchise. Now, within around a year to come, you may be waiting in line at the cinema to get your ticket for 'Transformers 4'. Yes, you heard it right. The latest sequel to the robot-transforming car movies is expected to arrive by June 2014. While most people are talking about Mark Wahlberg (remember him in 'Ted' or 'Broken City'?) replacing Shia LaBeouf as the main protagonist, what's more interesting to me is the addition of some new cars. It seems that director Michael Bay does have some quite serious taste for cars indeed. For Transformers 4, he'll be bringing a special edition Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse with a W16 quad-turbo engine. It's capable of spitting out 1,200bhp of power and 1,500Nm of torque in total. Well, that's not the only excitement, though. In addition to the Vitesse, the director will be bringing the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray as well. However, I suggest that you avoid trying to compare the Vitesse and Stingray side by side, especially in terms of price. It's out of the question that the Stingray's pricing is nowhere near the Vitesse. While you can get your hands on the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray with US$50,000 (approximately S$63,000), you need at least US$2.4 million (approximately S$3 million) to drive home the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. However, this 'Transformer' (the Stingray, supposedly an Autobot) does win when it comes to playing an American hero. The Vitesse that will be starring in the latest Transformers sequel to come is a special edition painted in brown-blue two-tone colour combination. As for the Stingray, it will come in bright green. Besides the two cars mentioned above, it

With so many strong contenters coming into this market, should we keep our chevy or dump it for something else? I have recently given this some deep thought. (I owned a Optra Jun'05). I check out the following cars 1. Mazda 3 2. Lancer 3 Advante 4 Kia Forte 5 Altis, Axio I was told my Optra is only paper price and that is $22K. I bought it at $59K 3.5 years ago. So the depreciation is 10.6K per year!!! Question, why do I need to change to 1 of the above car? Better performance? It is new? Cheaper? Frankly, not true. It is just the trend that is making my mind working hard to play catch up. My Optra is serving me well.

Really like Cruze, and the sportback version looks even cooler... Pity the super high COE stops me from buying it, 99K as listed in SGCarmart, but 89K as promotion now. Do you like this car?

In Singapore, finding an old classic car is something not that easy nor is it common due to the fact that our country is very small and there are not much of these cars left. But in big countries such as the United States, barn finds happen rather often and sometimes that find could be a gem. The vehicle you see in the pictures here is a 1961 C1 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster with 93423 miles (150,349 km) on the odometer and has been parked since 1968. The car was found by the guys at Barn Finds, a web based group who hunt for old vehicles and classic cars and publish them on their site for enthusiasts to snatch them up. Apparently, this particular C1 Corvette was found in Las Vegas and it has two owners since new. The current owner has parked the car for the last time in 1968 and it has not run since then. The Corvette has a 4.6-litre dual carburettor V8 engine that generates around 270bhp. The weather condition in Las Vegas has left the car in a terrible state. The car is also covered in huge amount of dust, both exterior and interior of it. Right now, it is on sale on eBay Motors and it is being sold with a hard top, without the convertible top and also without any of the convertible top

Automatic option now available for the Chevrolet Sonic 1.4L Turbo
SYF77 posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
[extract] When Chevrolet introduced the new Sonic (known as the Aveo in Singapore) with the 1.4-Liter turbocharged petrol engine, it was available exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Now, GM announced that it will be available with the option of a 6-speed automatic. This is good business strategy as not everyone prefers to switch gears by themselves. -
Just now near midnight, I was approaching the Rochor flyover towards Airport when traffic suddenly slowed to a crawl. All the cars started to filter to 1st lane and I knew confirm an accident had happened. Passed the debris on the second lane and it was possibly the Chevrolet Aveo 5 hatchback I had seen earlier at JW. Front bumper totally gone, engine exposed, and car was facing on coming traffic. At the side, there was a comfort cab with hazard lights on and several people on the road shoulder. Car might have also crashed into the barrier but am not sure. Well, if it was the same car, then I must say, the driver was probably speeding and didn't know the bendy/up and down roads on ECP next to Marina Bay well enough. I was behind him at the traffic light at Jurong West and this guy accelerate and speed like there is no consequence all the way up the long stretch next to Lakeside and Chinese Garden further down. Easiliy above 100kph there. When filtering into the highway, I picked up to highway speed quicker than him but the next moment, he zoomed past at least 130kph. The last thing I saw he did was cut someone's lane and zoom off into the distance. Didn't see his tail light at all. All I was doing was cruising at 90+.. And there was it, the car totally wasted the nx time I saw it. Of course, it might not be the same aveo but what are the chances of seeing another a maroon chevy aveo hatch at that time going in the same direction? To the driver, know your car limit and drive safe. I really hope that you are alright.

[extract] One of the several vehicles showcased by Chevrolet at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show is the 2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS (also known as the Aveo in some countries). The aggressive look of the Sonic RS is much inspired by the concept that debut a couple of years ago. The Chevrolet Sonic RS remains true to the concept
