OK I have taken out my double platinum plugs for examination and they indeed still look very good for the 20k they have gone except for the fuel additive deposit I've seen. Our Chevies use DIS ignition. It is 1 coil for 2 plugs. There is a waste spark, dump spark or reverse firing. What happens is that the plugs fire twice. Once on the compression cycle and the other on the exhaust (no fuel to burn). What happens on the exhaust firing, the current is reversed. Many people have reported plugs with platinum or iridium only in the centre electrode wears out very fast. You need the plug to have a hard wearing centre electrode and platinum on the side as well to last long. Our ignition system wears down spark plugs very fast.

I'm thinking of this. Got to set a date for it. I will cover the following: 1. PSF change. Pump method and steering method. 2. Brake fluid change using Eezibleed. 3. Spark plug change. Will check and see who want to change. We will use his MSCP and already cold engine to demo. 4. Oil change. Anyone who traveled from one extreme end of this island to the rendezvous with a hot and toasty engine is prime candidate. 5. Airfilter change (for those w/o CAI) 6. A/C cabin filter change. I would prefer the brake fluid and oil change to use an Aveo because it is easier with it. In order to conduct this, interested applicants should: 1. Buy Fumotovalve from www.fumotovalve.com (part no. F106 or F106-N if you prefer nipple). If don't want see below. 2. Own set of spark plugs (NGK BKR6E-11 equivalent). Either get Iridium or Pt-Ir types. Check with MCF Vtim, he got good prices for Volker and OWS which are cheaper than Denso but his NGK also not bad. If you want normal copper type, see below. 3. Spark plug hex (preferably stainless steel, 16mm hex size). If don't want, I can buy for you but you got to pay me for the hex and petrol used. 4. Allen key set. Better get one metric and imperial set. Need it to open the engine plastic cover. 5. Brake fluid. (DOT4 or 5.1 preferred). 6. Engine oil you want to use. 4qts enough. 4L is a little too much but I got measuring jug. 7. DexronIIID or H ATF for PSF. Toyota T-IV also can. Schaeffer's 204SAT multi-vehicle ATF from mxxxxxxxg also can. If you want to use expensive Amsoil ATF also can. 8. Big rectangular tupperware. Preferably around 5-6L capacity. I think you can get from those neighborhood shop but dunno if Daiso got this kind of size. Make sure it is low profil type and don't get some tall one that cannot go under the car. 9. Oil filter, air filter, A/C cabin filter (all get from Songyi). I will provide the torque wrench to torque the spark plugs. If you want to use copper spark plugs, I suggest you invest in a torque wrench because you need it. You will be changing more often than other people and you don't want to strip the threads. In short, it is better to use premium grade Ir/Pt spark plugs. Actually save you money in the long run. For those who don't want to use a Fumoto, also buy a torque wrench. The sump plug needs 26ft-lbs of torque to secure. You also need the crush washer. In short, it is better to get the Fumoto. Once I get the names and the committment of people will I post in the Meetup folder the date, time and venue for this.

Firstly. Aveo. The 1.4L ETECII engine is actually a GM Family I engine designed in the 1970s. Both the 1.4 DOHC and 1.5 SOHC are Family I engines. Family I engines are designed by Adam Opel. DOHC versions feature aluminium cylinder blocks. Local Optra and Optra5 in the 1.6L DOHC variants are also Family I engines. Only the Malaysian Optra LT1.8 is using a Family II engine. ETECII is EuroIII compliant.

OK I have talked to some Chevy/Daewoo people and some auto experts. Confirm can put CAI if you want. Of course will void warranty if you do it now. VGIS is not affected. Yes it uses resonance for the VGIS to work but the engine is sucking in the air and not have something blow the air in. Therefore, the resonance is at the induction manifold and not the air filter and rubber tube. As you all know, the air is take from the bottom. If you look at your air box, underneath it is a lobang where the air is drawn in. Below it is the resonator. You can remove that. The air will rush it like crazy. May improve low end if the air is cold. Now, I have only one filter in mind. Intimidator sells ITG filters. They are 100% maintenance free. No need oil. Dry foam. They got airbox kit and I think the best fitting one is the one for Honda Civic. See below: Basically it is the big round thing is an airbox holding this: There is a "side tube" that goes downwards to the fender where the resonator would reside. They got some kind of mesh thing to prevent rocks or stuff from going in. A word of warning. ITG is not cheap.

Just want to check if the Ecotec units in the Chevies the old Ecotec units that old Vauxhall/Opel used or the spanking new Twinport ones. I was searching for engine enhancements and found out that the old Ecotec units up to the Corsa B and C for 1.4L is the X14XE and the 1.6L is the X16XE. The 2.0L unit is called the X20XE but the turbocharged version on the Astra GSi is the X20LET. There are wonderous RAM induction kits by www.courtenay.co.uk. The turbocharge kits is around GBP 3k and comes with intercooler.
