Just went to Chen Jin Trading and bought a new set of 15" Avanti Rims and Tyres. Boss gave me a very good price not only for the set but also for the trade in rims and tyres. I'm switching allegience from Soh and Po Hen to them from now on. They have very good prices for Eagle F1 and Kumho tyres. Recommended highly for good service too. P.S I ask the boss why the 2 shops can offer such prices and got some interesting explainations. Cheers Chen Jin Trading 480 Upper Serangoon Road Tel: 62823006

Time is ~9pm and I keep the TV running in the background while surfing MCF. I found that besides lousy scripts, the actors also behave in a nitwit manner and are very noisy You can hear Chen Liping screaming and shouting each time she gets to speak. Besides the current 9pm show, she also screams during the weekend afternoon show "your hand in mine", or that hold your hand drama. Wonder who is the script writer and can they come out with something better? Another crazy screamer is Chen Lizhen. Do you folks feel the same?

From Yahoo!News Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC, Chen Show Mao, has revealed that invitations for him to attend events at the Paya Lebar division of the GRC have lately been withdrawn by organisers who were concerned they would not get venue approval from the People's Association (PA). In a Facebook post on Saturday, Workers' Party's Chen recounted that he had been scheduled to attend a Seventh Month dinner in the Paya Lebar ward last week but organisers had called him a few weeks earlier to inform him that they could no longer invite him. "The organisers as in previous years had planned to hold the festivities on a hard court in the HDB estate, but this year were told by the Paya Lebar CCC (Citizens' Consultative Committee under the People's Association) that, as a condition for receiving CCC approval to use the venue, they may no longer invite their MP to the event," Chen wrote. Future approvals would be withheld from errant organisers, he said, adding that the organisers were profusely apologetic. "It pains me that they felt so embarrassed to pass me the news. Regrettably, this is not the first time it has happened since I was elected," Chen said. He pointed out that August is a month of festivities, including that of National Day, a "day of our progressive nationhood." Many residents have talked to him about the events they are organising in the neighbourhood, and some of them wish to invite him, while others do not see the need to, he shared. "That is all fine by me... there is really no call to force our residents into a quandary over whom they may invite as guests to their own events," he concluded. Yahoo! Singapore is awaiting a response from PA after contacting them on Saturday evening to comment on the incident. The PA was established as a statutory board on 1 July 1960 to promote racial harmony and social cohesion in Singapore. It has a network of 1,800 grassroots organisations. Regards,

http://www.facebook.com/notes/chen-s...65853076813294 Forward After much thought and consideration, I have decided to retire from active practice as a partner of the Davis Polk law firm with effect from July. It is quite clear to me that given my new responsibilities as MP I will not be able to continue practicing law the way I have in the last twenty years. Law is in my blood and no doubt it will be part of my life. Meanwhile, my retirement from the partnership will afford me more time for my family, to serve constituency and country, and to explore alternative work arrangements. I wish to thank my partners for what I received over the years: their best efforts to aid my professional success and advancement, and the opportunity to use my best faculties to our common benefit. The same goes to our colleagues and clients. I have had many good years with the firm and leave with fond memories and many friendships. On this new journey for Singapore, to everyone who has in some way extended to me encouragement, support and hope, you have my gratitude for reaffirmation. In many ways, this is as much our journey as it is my journey: let us forge our way forward for a better Singapore for all Singaporeans.

The Workers' Party has suggested that there is no loss if Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo doesn't get elected because he can still contribute elsewhere - for example, as an ambassador. LKY: I thank Mr Low Thia Khiang for his imaginative suggestion. But first, we fight to win. And if they do not win, and for Mr Chen Show Mao... I have no suggestions as to what he can do. He can go back to China, where he has been for 30 years. Source: Asiaone

http://www.facebook.com/update_security_in...150578358340766 Show Mao wrote this over a year ago, but feels that it may still be topical. There was an Al Jazeera video on the subject of Chinese Muslims posted on theonlinecitizen, a popular Singapore website. One of its readers complained that the subject had no relevance for Singaporeans. I feel differently. To me one of Singapore's defining traits is its multi-culturalism. It is an article of faith. Indeed when Singaporeans give vent to their resentments of those newly among us, the complaint is often that the newcomers speak no English and keep to themselves. In other words, they are not "multi-cultural" like us -- not Singaporean enough. A Malay friend mentioned how he felt a stranger among the new Chinese immigrants in his HDB estate, who form a tight group among themselves and speak a different language. All I could think of at the time was to remind him that it may well be part of the Singapore condition ("My neighbor is another language" -- Edwin Thumboo). I wonder if my friend knows that China has a long history of engagement with Islam, which is welcome by Muslims inside and outside the country. By some accounts the first Muslim envoy to China, led by Sa'dd ibn Abi Waqqas, the maternal uncle of the Prophet Mohammad, was received in 651A.D. by the emperor Gaozong of the Tang dynasty, who ordered the construction of a memorial mosque in Canton. According to the Arab historian Tabari (deceased 923 A.D.), al-Mansur (754-775 A.D.), the second of the Abbasid caliphs, had declared that in laying the foundations of Baghdad by the Tigris "there is no obstacle between us and China. Everything on the sea can come to us." Contributions by Chinese Muslims are felt everywhere in China, and as far as Singapore. The first governor of the province of Yunnan, the first designer of the city that would be Beijing, eminent scholars of astronomy and mathematics, important officials of finance and tax... The Ming dynasty fleet that brought the first Chinese settlors to Malacca and visited Sumatra, Java and in all likelihood Singapore in the early fifteenth century was commanded by a Chinese Muslim, Hajji Mahmud Shams, better known as Admiral Cheng Ho, or Zheng He. Nearer our own time, Baiderluden Omar, better known as General Bai Chongxi, was widely regarded as the best strategist in the Chinese army during the second world war. And closer to home, Mrs Chen was raised by her maternal grandmother in a Muslim household. I will console my friend as follows. This strange tongue that you sometimes hear around you, that makes you feel that part of your house is not your home, should remind you of the kind of people we are. It celebrates what is best about us. And though at first it may sound jarring, I hope you will not feel as estranged knowing that Allah is also praised and worshipped in this language

PAP salvo targets Workers' Party 'star' Chen Ng Eng Hen queries his ability to identify with aspirations of S'poreans By Teo Cheng Wee & Robin Chan http://www.straitstimes.com/STI/STIMEDIA/i...LURBS19-6EW.jpg THE People's Action Party (PAP) has called on the Workers' Party (WP) to tell voters if its candidate Chen Show Mao can identify with the aspirations of Singaporeans, in what analysts see as the first salvo fired by the ruling party at what has been billed as the WP's 'star catch' ahead of the general election. (GNN PAP themselves dun even know mee siam got no hum) The PAP's organising secretary, Dr Ng Eng Hen, has written to The Straits Times Forum Page to criticise the WP for not answering directly why Mr Chen, 50, is choosing to enter politics now, after having spent some 40 years of his life overseas. (then what, stay in spore and be a YES man?) 'His entire career has been as a corporate lawyer in the United States and China. His wife and children do not live in Singapore. He now turns up and asks Singaporeans to elect him as a Member of Parliament.(Zero of the 84 PAP MP can even get a job near to his, sour-grape) 'Surely voters have a right to know from the Workers' Party if such a candidate can identify with the aspirations of Singaporeans and has a stake in our future? These questions should not be brushed aside and deserve a direct answer,' wrote Dr Ng. (people server NS, unlike Khaw who siam NS) The letter comes in the wake of two others to the Forum Page. Mr Benjamin Chow, in a letter published last Thursday, said that while the return of a fellow citizen to share his expertise is always welcome, he was wary of those who choose to return 'when the pickings are ripe'. WP chief Low Thia Khiang refuted Mr Chow the next day, saying Mr Chen 'is at the peak of his career and has nothing to gain being on an opposition ticket'. In his letter, Dr Ng contrasted the WP's lack of clarity to the PAP's own approach of getting its candidates to answer openly. He cited the examples of Dr Janil Puthucheary and Ms Foo Mee Har, both former Malaysians, who were asked about their being new citizens when they were first introduced as PAP candidates. 'They answered directly to allow voters to judge their motives and sincerity,' said Dr Ng. 'They and their families have made Singapore their home for the last 10 and 21 years respectively, working and living here.' Taiwan-born Mr Chen, who did national service here before becoming a Singapore citizen, declined comment when contacted yesterday. He said he would reply after seeing the published letter. He has, however, said in an earlier interview with The Straits Times that he is relocating back to Singapore for good and intends to buy property here. He said he would contest the next election if he did not win this round. Former Nominated MP Siew Kum Hong sees the PAP salvo as an indication the party views Mr Chen as a credible threat, while Singapore Management University (SMU) Assistant Professor Eugene Tan calls it a 'pre-emptive ruse to place the issue in people's minds'. Observers note that this is not the first time the PAP is making an issue of election candidates living overseas. In 2007, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong criticised the WP's Aljunied team for going 'Awol' after the general election the year before. Among them were Mr James Gomez and Mr Tan Wui-Hua, who both left after the election to work overseas. Institute of Policy Studies senior research fellow Gillian Koh said different parties have to decide for themselves what kind of overseas candidates they want. In his letter, Dr Ng noted that potential PAP candidates who have been working overseas for many years are advised to first come back and 're-establish their roots', by moving back with their families, working here and getting to know the local issues first. Analysts also note the timing of Dr Ng's letter, which they say suggests the general election is very near. National University of Singapore sociologist Tan Ern Ser called it a 'good move', as opposition parties are likely to question the 'Singaporean-ness' of PAP candidates who are new citizens. 'It is better to fire the first salvo, going on the offensive and putting others on the defensive, than to be shot at and be put on the defensive. 'What's more, the salvo is aimed at, I believe, the WP's 'A' team,' he said. Sources have said that Mr Chen is likely to be fielded in Aljunied GRC, together with WP chairman Sylvia Lim and three others. SMU's Prof Tan expressed concern that if the issue of Mr Chen's overseas stay is played up too much, it could prove divisive and also play up unnecessary fears in Singapore politics.
