S'pore opposition leader jailed for contempt of court SINGAPORE - A Singapore court sentenced an opposition leader to 12 days in jail on Monday for contempt of court during a case to determine the size of damages he has to pay for defaming the republic's leaders. Chee Soon Juan, the leader of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), was found by the judge to have 'scandalised the court' and 'obstructed the administration of justice' during a three-day hearing to decide on damages to be awarded to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his father Lee Kuan Yew. Chee's sister Chee Siok Chin, a senior member of the SDP, was also sentenced to a 10-day jail term for the same offence. The 12-day jail term was the longest awarded for this charge, said M Ravi, Chee's legal advisor. The judge said Chee accused the court of being biased and having pre-judged the defamation hearing, as well as not obeying the judge's orders to stop particular lines of questioning. The SDP, Chee and his sister were found to have defamed the Lees in a 2006 article. The defamation hearing last week, in which the Chees cross-examined the Lees, saw Chee Soon Juan calling Lee Kuan Yew a 'pitiable figure' and Lee saying that Chee was a 'near psychopath'. 'At no point was there a deliberate attempt to do anything that would scandalise the court,' Chee said to the court during Monday's hearing for contempt of court. 'There were many political arguments made and in the heat of the battle, Mr Lee said some things and I said some things. It was in this context that some things were said and done,' he said. Singapore has been dominated by one party - the People's Action Party - since its independence in 1965. The Singapore Democratic Party is one of the more vocal opposition parties in Singapore but it did not win a seat in parliament in the last election in 2006. -- REUTERS

ST 28/5 Maths sum posed to PM Lee: Divide 5,000 by 4.6m HOW much is 5,000 divided by 4.6 million? That was the maths question Ms Chee Siok Chin challenged Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to work out on the spot as she tried to prove her party's newsletter, The New Democrat, had limited reach. The 5,000 figure represents the number of copies sold of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) newsletter which contained defamatory statements against the Government. The other number refers to the population of Singapore. Ms Chee posed the question and asked PM Lee if he had a calculator. When he said he did not, she retorted: 'I'm sure your mind is astute enough to do a very simple mathematical calculation... and work it out.' PM Lee worked out the calculation - around one in 1,000 - and then pointed out that the answer did not accurately reflect the article's reach. This stretched beyond the number of newsletters sold, he said, when responding later to a question from his counsel Davinder Singh during re-examination. There was also the 'word of mouth after the article has been read, circulating on the grapevine and in the coffee shops' - 'poisonously distorted, loaded, more and more damaging, impossible to trace, except in court, where the truth will come out', he said. Of the 5,000 copies sold, 'each copy could have been circulated to many readers', he added. In addition, 'Dr Chee, Ms Chee and several others (from the SDP) were going around' repeating the defamatory allegations in the newsletter, 'as broadly as possible, as loudly as possible', 'to achieve as much impact as possible', said Mr Lee. Finally there was the Internet, where there were many more eyeballs reading the allegations. During the earlier exchange with Ms Chee over the calculation she set for him, those in the public gallery were amused when she got her sums mixed up. After Mr Lee worked out the one in 1,000 figure, Ms Chee said that was '0.0001' per cent of the population. PM Lee had to correct her maths: 'I think you have one zero too many.'

This Honda Civic came looking rather neglected with plenty of scratches and swirls. On the bonnet especially, there was immediate and apparent difference in shine and gloss between the before and after polish areas. However, the paintwork seems slightly easier to work with compared to the Euro R I did a while back, although the "signature" softness of the paint did gave me some grieve while working on it Did 3 changes to my usual routine: I added some Clearkote's RMG to the PO85RD during the polishing stage, before my usual EZ-creme glaze afterwards. Also, the Ez-creme glaze is applied with DA instead of by hand and that seems to make the black paint even richer and wetter. Factory sealant was also used instead of M-seal as my trials with it showed that it seems to have a warmer glow to it. So here goes: The process: 1) Wash n Clay 2) DA with Orange LC pad and IP 3) DA with White LC pad and PO85RD and RMG 4) Wash 5) DA with Grey LC pad and Ez creme glaze 6) 2x Factory Sealant by hand A quarter of the bonnet on the right is the polished area while the rest is after washing and claybar. Close up look on the scratches on the bonnet and after results: Other scratches and swirls:
