  2. Yahoo news From The Independent : Army’s new £3.5bn tank fleet ‘can’t travel faster than 20mph safely’ The army was forced to pause trials of its new £3.47bn fleet of tanks over design issues, which reportedly left them unable to travel safely faster than 20 miles per hour. Problems with the new Ajax armoured fighting vehicles - which are supposed reach speeds of 40mph - also include not being able to fire cannons on the move, the Daily Telegraph reports. The paper cited a government report saying the speed restrictions had been caused by excessive vibrations in the tanks and that crews were limited to 90 minutes inside them at a time. The report, due to be published next month, says the tanks cannot reverse over obstacles more than 20 centimetres high, that personnel must wear noise-cancelling headphones when operating them and undergo ear tests afterwards, and that the Household Cavalry Regiment "cannot conduct effective collective training" in them. 4. Which animals are better behave ? Yahoo : Zoo meerkat expert sentenced over assault on monkey handler LONDON (AP) — A former meerkat expert at London Zoo has been ordered to pay compensation to a monkey handler she attacked with a wine glass in a love spat over a llama-keeper. A judge at Westminster Magistrates' Court said Wednesday that Caroline Westlake must pay 800 pounds ($1,235) to Kate Sanders for assaulting her in a dispute over colleague Adam Davies, who had dated both women. Judge Jeremy Colman also sentenced 30-year-old Westlake to 12 months community service for assault. The judge said Sanders had suffered a "nasty" face injury in the fracas at a zoo Christmas party on Dec. 8. Westlake had claimed that Sanders punched her first, and said she did not remember hitting her colleague with the glass. She was fired by the zoo after the incident. link : https://sg.news.yahoo.com/zoo-meerkat-expert-sentenced-over-assault-monkey-handler-155618685.html Now she is out of job. I don't mind she is my keeper ....
  5. Man eats mee goreng at McDonald's -- and argues with staff when told not to Posted on 05 April 2014 | Stomper Saravanan saw a dispute between a man and staff at a McDonald's outlet in Lucky Plaza, which started when the guy ate mee goreng in the fast food restaurant. When told to have his food elsewhere, the man argued that Starbucks allowed him to eat outside food in their premises Wrote the Stomper: "The Indian uncle together with his friend in an orange blazer were conversing about some business deals at Lucky Plaza Macdonald's. "While the one in orange purchased a meal for himself in McDonald's, the Indian uncle fished out his mee goreng from his bag and started consuming it while having his financial talks. "When staff politely told him not to consume foods that were not from McDonald's, he started confronting them, leading to a dispute. "He started arguing that he had his mee goreng meals even in Starbucks and they had not uttered a word to him, so why did MacDonald's have such a restriction? "This led the staff to inform their manager. The manager asked the man in a calm tone to have his mee goreng elsewhere. "He also told the man that he can consume it in Starbucks again if he wanted to, but not at his outlet as it is against his company's policy." -------------------------------- Hahaha.. Came across this new when surfing Facebook.. "I even have my Mee Goreng Meal at Starbucks...They also diam diam... Then why I can't eat at MacDonald" It sound like why I can do this at Atas shop, why you mass market one don't allow me to do that...

http://www.tremeritus.com/2014/03/16/the-alternative-news-in-1-day-80-cant-open-archives-after-50-years/ The Alternative News in 1 day? (80) – Can’t open archives after 50 years? March 16th, 2014 | Author: Contributions I refer to the article “Release of all past cabinet records may not lead to better outcomes: Lawrence Wong” (Today, Mar 11). Transparency may not lead to better outcomes? It states that “But Mr Lawrence Wong, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI), refuted him, saying that such an open policy may not necessarily lead to better outcomes.” - I am rather puzzled by the reasons given in the subject Parliamentary debate as to why the record of archives which are more than 50 years old, cannot be made public. How can being transparent 50 years later – “may not necessarily lead to better outcomes”? Better outcomes in the future or in the past? Wouldn’t transparency and accountability lead to “better outcomes” now and in the future? Or are we referring to the “outcomes” of our history that cannot be changed? As to “Responding, Mr Wong said the National Archives of Singapore (NAS) does make available public archives for inspection for research and reference. Requests can be made at the NAS’s reading room, and the NAS will consult the relevant agency about providing access to these records. No transparency 50 years later because of “personal privacy”? But while all unclassified information is made available upon request, there are some records which are not available for open access, including those relating to national defence, foreign relations and internal security, as well as documents which may be bound by confidentiality obligations or personal privacy reasons, said Mr Wong.” - What are we saying here? That transparency of Government (and we are not even talking about accountability here) should be subservient to “personal privacy” and “confidentiality obligations”‘ reasons – 50 years after the event! If politicians are so concerned about “personal privacy” 50 years later – perhaps they should not become politicians in the first place. Less transparency = Good governance? With regard to “Mr Wong countered that the Government’s approach “is not transparency for transparency’s sake”, but transparency that leads to good governance.” - I find this to be somewhat self-contradictory. The fundamental basis of “good governance” is transparency and accountability. Check and balance? Our system of democracy which we inherited from the British is fundamentally based on the check and balance of Parliament, the Judiciary and the Executive (Government). So, how can “not being transparent” lead to “good governance”? In respect of “He pointed out that some countries have “gone somewhat overboard with freedom of information legislation or open access”, leading instead to the opaqueness and avoidance of records. - Can we have the names of these countries and an elaboration as to how it has lead “instead to the opaqueness and avoidance of records”? Civil servants won’t record real minutes of meetings? As to “Policy papers or cabinet papers may not have complete information or detail because the civil servants writing them know that the reports will be made available, he said. “I think we have to be careful of such inadvertent consequences.” - What are we saying here? That our highest paid civil servants who have been touted as the most incorruptible and efficient in the world – may not write a correct record of meetings because of the fear that they may be made public 50 years later? Wouldn’t all the people present at the meeting be able to see when the minutes are out – if the civil servant had in fact not written ä factual record of the meeting? If even now we have such an in my view “unfounded” fear – then is there not something wrong with the type of people that we are recruiting into the civil service? – Whatever happened to the values, continual emphasis on integrity and public duty, and training that we are inculcating in them? Why pay the highest salaries in the world – only to arguably, have civil servants who cannot be trusted or relied upon to do their job? “Tian You Yan”? In the final analysis, if I may use the analogy of a Chinese saying “Tian You Yan” (God has eyes) – by not being transparent 50 years after the fact, may have the opposite effect of inculcating a breed of politicians who may not do the right thing – in the comfort that their actions and deliberations may never be subject to the court of public opinion 50 years later. Perhaps we shoud have a compromise by allowing the opening of the Cabinet archives only after all the persons who were in the Cabinet at that time, are long dead and gone. 9. Why Taiwan can protect its people by not selling flats to foreigner we can't? All the taiwan 原住民 who own land or houses are exploit by foreigner who buy their land for cheap till government intervene and passes a law saying that no foreigner are allow to buy those land which they owned. what about us here. PR or foreigner can simply buy and sell for profits. See the article below for buying house in Taiwan. Foreign nationals, who are resident in Taiwan and hold an Alien Registration Card, are allowed to buy residential property in Taiwan, but only if Taiwan nationals are also entitled to buy property in the foreign national's home country, according to the "reciprocity rule". They are required to apply to the Ministry of Economic Affairs for approval of the intended purchase. Foreigners are not generally allowed to buy and sell property in Taiwan for profit, only for personal use or investment purposes. Individuals are usually only allowed to buy one piece of real estate. House prices in Taiwan have recently been increasing steadily, and in the third quarter of 2006, the average price of a residential home was TWD5.88 million (approximately US$181,000). Although this is not as high as in many western countries, prices are higher in Taiwan relative to average income. Prices are not expected to increase rapidly in the near future as there is a glut of properties on the market. Around 87% of Taiwan's population already own their own home. Foreign non-residents are subject to 20% tax on their gross income from sub-letting property in Taiwan, as well as an annual house tax of 1.38% of the current value of the property. Capital gains are subject to a tax rate of 20%. Under the Land Act (amended 2001), annual rents from residential property must be limited to 10% of the value of the property. A change in ownership of property must be registered with the local Land Registration Office. this 3 clause i sure will make them rich arse thinking about buying and loan and earning from our land. 20% tax on their gross income from sub-letting property in Taiwan, as well as an annual house tax of 1.38% of the current value of the property. Capital gains are subject to a tax rate of 20%

  13. S'pore cannot make do without foreign talent: Ex-MM Lee By S Ramesh | Posted: 22 July 2011 2107 hrs SINGAPORE: Former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said Singapore would not be able to punch above its own weight if it were to depend on talent from its own population. He was speaking at a dialogue to wrap up the two-day South Asian Diaspora convention in Singapore on Friday. Was he the one telling us to stop at 2? Now he says, based on the 3million population we have, cannot punch above our own weight. We have to accept the fact? Yes we do need foreign talent but not trash.

  19. http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Online...ory_622575.html ST Forum Home > ST Forum > Online Story Jan 11, 2011 Spare pet owners the 'D' word RECENTLY, my dog passed away and I had to deregister it on the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority website. On the site, under the given options for reasons for deregistration, the first one is the word "dead" followed by others such as "lost", "stolen" and so on. We are already feeling very sad over the loss of our dog and it is insensitive to have such a word on the site. Is it possible to change it to something like "passed on"? This would really go a long way towards helping dog owners get over their grief. Elizabeth Chiona (Ms) ================================= Latest comments "Passed On " .. to whom ? The truth hurts... 21. juz pondering... when i bid a COE, i am entitled to own a car for next 10yrs right? den y cant i simply scrap away the current car and change a new ride while retaining the COE? let's say this scenario: One got a COE at $2 2yrs back. somewhere last yr got into major accident, but not BER thus insurance only pay for repairs not new car. but since then the car been giving a lot of prob so owner feel like changing car. but with the current crazy COE price, how to change car? but if he is able to scrap current car and buy another car under his COE, he is not contribute to any vehicle growth wat. den e new car ownership will base on the length of COE remaining instead of 10yrs so y cant LTA think of this? The abovementioned case is purely fabricated for illustration. Any coincidence is unintended so pls dun ask me for driver/car/accident details
  22. someone working in SG and was in msia for the weekend, he drove a SG registered car, a toyota/suzuki i didn't get proper info. So they went out with another relative who was driving a Nissan Xtrail. They went to Damansara Uptown for lunch, upon parking their cars both caR couldn't lock their cars using the remote, however they didn't think much of it at that time and just locked the cars using the keys. Later after lunch, they got back to the cars and then went to another makan place for dessert two streets away. 30 mins later after dessert the cars were stolen. So it was believed the thieves somehow jammed their alarm remotes and took the car and this website sells it http://www.jammer-store.com/433mhz-remote-...er-blocker.html so if you cant remote lock yr car, go else where... What i normally do in Malaysia. Purposely activate the immobilisers, wait till the siren finish, lock my car with key and walk off plus wheel lock with front in parking and steer the wheel to either right or left depending on which side have barrier or pillar also installed a switch when activated, even your original car key cannot start the car. some will say don go in lor but jobs require, and changing job or don work is not an option for some
