New Road Rover model to launch in 2019 New Land Rover model line will kick off with an electric-powered XJ-sized luxury vehicle The first production vehicle will be a premium all-electric model, aimed primarily at markets such as California in the US and China. The first Road Rover is understood to be a Mercedes-Benz S-Class rival in terms of outright luxury and interior craftsmanship but with some ‘all-terrain’ capability. The car will also be tuned for impressive on-road dynamic performance, taking advantage of the potential delivered by electric motors. The car could make its public debut at the Los Angeles motor show in late 2019, with sales starting soon after. Prices are expected to be pegged at around £90,000 for the top-line versions. Over time, the Road Rover line-up is expected to develop into a series of more car-like and road-friendly, but still rugged, vehicles. In fact, Autocar understands that the first Road Rover model is being developed in parallel with the next-generation XJ. The underlying structure for both of these vehicles is a new-generation aluminium architecture that can accommodate both battery packs and piston engines. It’s thought that the new XJ and the Road Rover will both be pure-electric vehicles with twin electric motors and on-demand all-wheel drive. The Road Rover will emphasise extreme luxury — the huge success of the current S-Class has proved that SUVs have not pushed super-luxury saloon cars out of the market — and it is also expected to have height-adjustable suspension for a degree of all-terrain ability. A range of at least 300 miles is predicted, as well as a 0-60mph time of under 5.0sec. JLR has to compete head-on with premium-brand rivals such as Porsche and Audi, which are both launching luxury EVs in the next two years. Perhaps the closest rival to the new Road Rover is Audi’s E-tron Sportback, which is due to be launched in 2019. This also has all-wheel drive and an expected driving range of 300 miles in ideal conditions. There is no hard news on whether the Road Rover will have its own stand-alone design language. However, it is likely to build on the look of the Velar, emphasising taut and very clean surfaces, and it will have more of a shooting brake profile than other high-end electric SUVs. The new XJ and Road Rover, along with Jaguar’s electric I-Pace compact SUV, will be part of JLR’s plan to meet stringent new Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) sales targets in California.

Another close called after Ison .... Yahoo news: Earth marks close encounter with enormous asteroid REUTERS - An asteroid estimated to be the size of three football fields whizzed close to Earth on Monday, roughly a year after one exploded over Russia and injured 1,200 people. Slooh Space Camera tracked the approach of the asteroid as it raced past the planet at about 27,000 mph (43,000 kmph), starting at 9 p.m. EST (2 a.m. GMT, February 18), the robotic telescope service said in a statement on Slooh.com. The Dubai Astronomy Group provided Slooh photos of the part of the sky where the rock was expected to be seen, but its motion could not be picked out immediately in a live webcast against the backdrop of night-time stars. The 295-yard (270-m) asteroid was streaking past Earth at a distance of about 2.1 million miles (3.4 million km) little more than a year after another asteroid exploded on February 15, 2013, over Chelyabinsk, Russia. That asteroid injured 1,200 people following a massive shock wave that shattered windows and damaged buildings. Chelyabinsk region officials had wanted to mark the anniversary by giving a piece of the meteorite to each 2014 Winter Olympic athlete who won a medal on Saturday at the Sochi Games. However, the International Olympic Committee at the last minute said it could be done only after the games and separately. Slooh's flagship observatory on Mount Teide in Spain's Canary Islands was iced over and unable to be used for the 2000 EM26 viewing, Paul Cox, Slooh's technical and research director, said on the one-hour webcast. "We continue to discover these potentially hazardous asteroids - sometimes only days before they make their close approaches to Earth," Cox said in a statement before the show. He added, "We need to find them before they find us!" Its seem we are getting closer to extinction as years gone bye with so many 'BIG' rocks flying pass our mother Earth and each one getting nearer .... This one not even spotted until last minutes and some telescopes observing the universe were frozen cos of unexpected winter storms.

Watch the ( US )Navy's New Unmanned Swarm Boats In Action (WATCH THE VIDEO IN LINK ) http://gizmodo.com/watch-the-navys-new-unmanned-swarm-boats-in-action-1642641650 The Navy is aiming to add its new unmanned swarm boats to the fleet within a year, and a video released by the Office of Naval Research shows what an asset these empty vessels will be. The swarm boats are outfitted with sensors and software so the Navy can control them without putting anyone inside. Algorithms help determine the right speed and the best course of action. These boats are designed to act as an initial line of defense, and can quickly surround unknown or enemy boats as a deterrent. But they're not just a warning sign. They can also fire .50 caliber machine guns if the deterring doesn't work, though they don't start shooting on their own. Like military drones in the sky, a person will control the weapons. There isn't a specific type of swarm boat. The Navy's sensor and software technology can turn small vessels into unmanned swarmers, so they can retrofit older boats. [ABC

Chanced upon this kopitiam where all the stalls served Malay food. Only managed to try it today. It is located at Blk 529 AMK Ave 10. Good for those staying/working nearby. Understand this is a 24hrs kopitiam but not all stalls open 24hrs. Some will closed once their food sold out. Price is $3 for a bowl of lontong. Have not tried others YET. After that, still can tabao Pines Garden pastries home. I am not affiliated with this kopitiam. Just a glutton who can't resist sharing good makan place since yummy Malay food are hard to come by.

STOMPer Pare Port was stuck in a carpark for 30 minutes when a BMW driver parked her vehicle across the exit, blocking other motorists. Said the STOMPer: "I was stuck in car park for more than 30 minutes because a BMW 7-series was parked across the car park exit. "Passers-by gathered near the car, bewildered by such an inconsiderate driver. "Who could it be? Then a female driver turns up. "When asked why she parked so inconsiderately, she stared angrily as though she had done nothing wrong. "Without offering an apology, she acted like some big shot and yelled at us in an accent to get out of her way. "When a passer-by tried to reason with her and stopped her from driving off, she slammed her car door on the poor man, cutting his hand. "She even tried to take a picture. "All those who witnessed the incident were just disgusted with this woman's behaviour. "We let her drive off, but we took her pictures and made a police report. "She may be rich but she cannot treat people this way. "It is just not right. "Can you imagine how she treats others who dare not stand up to her? "What a sad day."

A controversial party to be held at Chijmes this Saturday has been called off. After a one-hour closed-door meeting between the management of Chijmes and organisers of the Escape Chapel Party, it was decided that the party will be nixed, reported The Straits Times. RELATED STORIES 'Chapel party' images draw flak The meeting between Perennial (Singapore) Retail Management, which manages Chijimes and event organiser Creative Insurgence was called last night, said the paper. Perennial had told the organiser that it would face legal action if it did not cancel the party. The party, which was to be held on Black Saturday, had raised eyebrows due to the provocative images used to promote it. In one image, two young women were dressed in skimpy nun-like habits. While habits normally cover the whole leg, the outfits the women wore were shorter than mid-thigh length. It was posted on the Facebook page, with the caption "A sneak peek at what some of our girls will be wearing on the 7th of April." The page also featured an event poster, with a woman also dressed in a habit-like outfit. In an earlier my paper report, Archbishop Nicholas Chia of the Catholic Church in Singapore said that the event "is scandalous to the Church" and that "such events should not be held in a chapel". Chijmes, which was established in 1854, was previously the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus before a $100-million restoration project transformed it into a lifestyle destination in 1996. According to the my paper report, Creative Insurgence's director, Mr Aaghir Yadav, said they had taken down the images and apologised to the Catholic church. He also said the women in the photos are friends of his in cosplay costumes. He denied that there was any religious symbolism in the photos. Mr Yadav also claimed that the party was named because of its location, Chijmes. Chijmes' management, however, has said that it strongly disapproves events held there that are 'illegal and immoral in nature and/or disrespectful of religions, faiths and races'.

http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...igent_joke.html The 14-year-old teenager who drew flak from netizens for mocking Chinese New Year as a 'senseless' rehash of New Year's Day in a video says it was meant to be satirical and an 'intelligent joke'. The video was made by Zhonghua Secondary School student Amos Yee, who also stars in Jack Neo's latest movie, We Not Naughty. He had previously won Best Actor and Best Short Film in the FiRST Film Fest, organised by The New Paper. When contacted, Amos told My Paper that the video was meant to be satirical and was not meant to insult anyone. It was meant to be an intelligent joke, said the secondary two student. Amos also told The New Paper: "To all the haters, I am open to their criticism, I'm not a racist as some people have called me. I love feedback. I feel, humbly, that feedback is good. "The video is a joke executed well, but it attracted a lot of (unnecessary) hate. "Most of the people are commenting for the sake of commenting. They are also commenting from other people's comments. Have they seriously looked at the video from their own perspective? "I am Amos Yee. I don't care what people think. They can hate me for all they want. It shows that people are interested in me." Amos' mother also said her son's video clip was done in good fun. He had uploaded it with the intent of it being a 'comical greeting card'. She says Amos is a good boy in real life and enjoys all the traditions and customs of Chinese New Year and loves going visiting. Jack Neo also defended Amos, saying he is not to be blamed as generally, "most children these days have no idea of the origins of Chinese New Year." STOMPer FamousAmos who read the report shared her opinion: "First you insult until so jialat, then you come out and say it was a smart joke. "If you want to make smart jokes in your 'American accent' about your very own culture, then you can jolly well stop celebrating CNY and go elsewhere. "You are still quite young, but not too young to not understand the fundamentals of respect. Next time think properly before you speak." (May 13 & 14, 2010) Researchers from the University of Washington and the University of California, San Diego, plan to present a paper in which they describe how computer programs used in automobiles can be manipulated by hackers to take control of braking and other critical systems in cars. The researchers created a tool called CarShark that "can sniff and inject packets on the" Controller Area Network (CAN) system, the diagnostic tool used for all US cars built in 2008 and later. The cyber attackers would need access to a standard diagnostic computer port in the targeted car. In a demonstration last year, the researchers connected a laptop to the targeted car and controlled that car's computer system wirelessly with another laptop in a car close by. The researchers are not trying to scare people, but to drive home the point to automobile manufacturers that they must bake security into the computer systems that accompany new cars. The paper is scheduled to be presented at the IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy on Wednesday, May 19. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/14/science/14hack.html http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/05/14/car_security_risks/ http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/arti...e_and_more.html http://news.cnet.com/8301-27080_3-20005047...tag=mncol;title
