Party still go on. Message is very clear, if you refused to go for vaccination, you will be left behind. National Day Parade 2021 to go ahead with physical event and spectators at The Float @ Marina Bay https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/national-day-parade-2021-ndp-floating-platform-15124154 SINGAPORE: This year’s National Day Parade (NDP) on Aug 9 will go ahead with a centralised physical event and spectators at The Float @ Marina Bay, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said on Monday (Jun 28). The number of participants and spectators will be “scaled down appropriately”, Dr Ng said, adding that the final figure will be decided later. Spectators above 12 years old who are eligible for the national vaccination programme must be fully vaccinated before attending the event. They will also have to undergo pre-event COVID-19 testing. All participants have also been vaccinated against the coronavirus and are routinely tested before each rehearsal in separate groups. There will only be one preview show before the main event. “There will be the usual combined parade and show, there will also be heartland activities, which the NDP Committee will share,” Dr Ng told reporters ahead of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Day on Thursday. “By Aug 9, with Singaporeans’ cooperation, we hope that at least two-thirds of the population would have gotten their second dose,” he said, highlighting that vaccinated participants and spectators “reduces a lot of risk”. “With proper safety measures, it will be safe enough for us to conduct a physical NDP on the floating platform, and I hope that Singaporeans will give us the support.” When asked about show elements like fireworks and the potential for crowding, Dr Ng said “we need Singaporeans to play their part”. “It is better to watch from the comfort and safety of their homes. Do not crowd and I think there will be administrators and safe distancing ambassadors on the ground to help enforce,” he added. “But the new normal also means that Singaporeans must take their own measures to protect themselves and especially if you are not vaccinated.” Dr Ng advised those who are not vaccinated to watch the heartland activities at home and to avoid the crowds as “it is just not as safe”. “If you are vaccinated, it does not mean you do not take any safety measures, but the risk to you is less,” he added. Dr Ng also asked Singaporeans for their understanding if this year’s show turns out to be "not as well prepared" as in previous years, given the shorter preparation time due to changing scenarios amid COVID-19. “We hope that the NDP will give us a wider perspective because it has been a tough year, a year and a half, and I think with Singaporeans’ support and help, I think we can achieve,” he added.

Bus & Train Services Extended On New Year’s Eve 2020, So You Can Celebrate A Little Longer source: https://mustsharenews.com/nye-bus-train-extensions/ Last Bus & Train Extensions For New Year’s Eve 2020 With Phase 3 arriving just in time for New Year’s countdown celebrations, this is the chance for socially-distanced outings and gatherings — and with them come revised bus and train timings. To allow revellers to stay out a little while longer, 3 of the 4 public transport operators here have announced changes to their last train and bus timings for Thursday (31 Dec). Those travelling to and from the city area need not face severe surges in cab fares on New Year’s. This is if you’re taking bus and trains from SMRT, SBS Transit, and Tower Transit. Train & bus extensions on New Year’s Eve 2020 SBS Transit will extend their train lines – namely, the North East Line (NEL), Downtown Line (DTL), and the Sengkang-Punggol Light Rail Transit (SPLRT) – for at least 1 hour. They announced the following timings for their last train service on the NEL: Last train departs from HarbourFront to Punggol at 1am Last train departs from Punggol to HarbourFront at 12.32am For an easier look at when you should catch the last train at each station on the NEL, look no further: Meanwhile, for the DTL, the details are as follows: Last train departs from Bukit Panjang to Expo at 12.34am Last train departs from Expo to Bukit Panjang at 12.34am The following 22 bus services will run later as well: SMRT services extensions SMRT too, will extend their train and bus services on New Year’s Eve. SMRT lines consist of the North-South Line (NSL), East-West Line (EWL), and Circle Line (CCL). Meanwhile, the following 14 bus services will also see extended timings. Tower Transit extended timings Meanwhile, Tower Transit Singapore will also extend some of their buses’ timings, as follows: Those who live primarily in the West and North-East won’t have to overly worry with these extensions in place. Enjoy your New Year’s celebrations responsibly Do note that Go-Ahead Singapore bus services will not have extended operating hours. Be sure to check your service before deciding to stay out for the night. Also, always ensure that you’re following all safe distancing measures and that you’re not breaking any of them. This is a time of celebration, but there’ll also be enforcers around to ensure everyone’s celebrating without risking others.

1-month-old baby dies on full month celebration after grandfather gives him alcohol https://www.asiaone.com/china/1-month-old-baby-dies-full-month-celebration-after-grandfather-gives-him-alcohol?xtor=EREC-16-4%5BEmarsys_Newsletter%5D-20190718&extid=6934d0cfb7b252f1ae9f0dbddf5ff88ca8637e77 Tragedy befell a family recently when a newborn baby died after his grandfather fed him a sip of alcohol, on his first-month celebration. The incident shows the dangers of giving alcohol to a baby, even in tiny amounts. According to an article on Sin Chew Daily on 12 July 2019, the incident happened in Beijing, China. Many friends and relatives had turned up at the baby's full month celebration, which is traditionally held to bless the child and celebrate the arrival of a new member of the family. The child's paternal grandfather was apparently carrying him when he proposed a toast to his relatives. Things took a rather weird turn when one of the relatives joked that the grandfather couldn't drink if the baby didn't drink. The grandfather fell for the taunt, he grabbed a cup of alcohol and gave the baby a sip, to "save his face". When the child's mother got to know what had happened, she was furious. She grabbed her baby back into her arms. But the damage had been done. The baby became breathless after just 30 minutes. He was rushed to the hospital, but hospital staff were unable to save the little one. Doctors found out that, the cause of the child's death was alcohol poisoning. "Babies cannot drink alcohol, how can you treat a child's life as if it's a joke?" they asked the grandfather. It has been reported that the baby's heartbroken mum was unable to believe what had happened, and she slapped her father-in-law multiple times. Apparently, the mum had been ill-treated by her in-laws previously, because she was unable to conceive even after 3 years of marriage. Things got better only after she was blessed with a baby boy. Fate though had other plans. According to a report by Dr Taylor McCormick (Department of Emergency Medicine, Los Angeles County & University of Southern California Medical Center), babies appear to metabolise alcohol faster than adults. Alcohol affects the central nervous system. Children's bodies absorb alcohol quickly, and this can occur in less than 30 minutes. Symptoms of alcohol poisoning in babies can include difficulty breathing, reduced activity, and seizures. Some studies have also found a risk for low blood sugar. The long-term effects on the baby are unclear. However, breathing difficulties could deprive the baby's brain of oxygen, possibly causing brain damage. In the case of breastfeeding mothers, the CDC recommends that not drinking alcohol is the safest option. Generally, moderate alcohol consumption by a breastfeeding mother (up to 1 standard drink per day) is not known to be harmful to the infant. However, the mother should wait for at least 2 hours after a single drink before breastfeeding her baby. Breast milk will contain alcohol as long as alcohol is still in the mother's bloodstream. Alcohol levels are usually highest in breast milk 30-60 minutes after alcohol is consumed. The length of time alcohol can be detected in breast milk will increase the more alcohol a mother consumes. For example, alcohol from 1 drink can be detected in breast milk for about 2-3 hours, alcohol from 2 drinks can be detected for about 4-5 hours, and alcohol from 3 drinks can be detected for about 6-8 hours, and so on. Exposure to alcohol above moderate levels through breast milk can damage an infant's development, growth, and sleep patterns. High alcohol consumption can also impair a mother's judgment and ability to safely care for her child. Over time, excessive alcohol consumption can also lead to decreased milk production. Aston Martin Vanquish airborned onto Dubai's Burj Al Arab hotel
SYF77 posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9vhsFsyGQ0 If you think that forklifting an Audi R8 onto the roof of Fullerton Hotel was impressive, wait till you hear this. Aston Martin, in celebration of its 100th year since inception, dropped in a Vanquish onto the helipad of Dubai's Buri Al Arab hotel before showing if off to a group of dignitaries. At 321m, the Buri Al Arab hotel is the fourth tallest hotel in the world. It stands on an artificial island 280m from Jumeirah beach and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. Also as part of the British carmaker's 100th year celebration, the Vanquish, Rapide, V8 Vantage and DB9 will all be offered with a limited production Centenary Edition model with just 100 units. Since the star of this blog post is the Vanquish, its Centenary Edition comes with a special graduated paint finish, which adds 18 hours to the 50-hour paint process. Under the hood is a 6.0-litre V12 which makes 565bhp and 457Nm of torque. It sprints from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds.-

I happened to watch some of the MediaCorp New Year celebration last night. Wasn't expecting such a mediocre performance by the invited artistes in general. But what was most surprising was the VW golf mk 7 sitting atop the stage and all the advertisements and segments. Anyone was put off by this? I certainly was. Why would MediaCorp invite such a marketing ploy for a big event like this? Surely something could be done in light of the COE situation. (I'm not against VW btw - just think the marketing is too aggressive)

Triple National Day celebration for mom and newborn twins Mdm Hayati, who was born on Aug 9, 27 years ago, gave birth to a pair of twins early on Saturday morning. IT WAS a triple celebration for first-time parents Madam Nor Hayati and Mr Ismail bin Hatmin on Saturday. Not only were they feting the nation's birthday, Mdm Hayati, who was born on Aug 9, 27 years ago, gave birth to a pair of twins early on Saturday morning. The twins were expected to be out next week, but Mdm Hayati felt her waterbag burst just past midnight on Friday and the twins were delivered by caesarean section at 4.40am. 'I guess they really wanted to make it out by National Day,' said the customer service officer. 'They are the best birthday gift I have ever received.' Baby daughter Nur Daniah and son Mohd Danish each weigh 2.3kg. They will stay at Kadang Kerbau Hospital with mum until Monday. More than 20 friends and family, mostly dressed in red, visited the couple on Saturday to send both birthday greetings and well-wishes. Mr Ismail's mother was so thrilled with the National Day coincidence, she bought red and white felt blankets for the newborns. But Mr Ismail, 27, an engineering assistant, had to cancel the routine birthday treat - a quiet dinner and watching the fireworks from Marina Bay - that he had planned for his wife. Instead, the new family of four and some relatives will be watching the live telecast of the National Day Parade together in the hospital. 'With three National Day babies in my family now, there's extra pressure for me to get us all tickets to the parade in the future,' joked Mr Ismail. 三喜临门

We're 3 days shy of one little anthracite blue Mk2 Toledo turning 3 but seeing I probably won't be able to log this on her birthday (yes, I'm pretty much convinced mine's a "she" ) and to-date, I am still pretty much proud to say I'm glad I chose her over the rest three years ago. Stats - 1.6m 5-speed manual anthracite blue, stock except for Mintex Red's (K&N recently got discarded "accidentally" ). Was on Pirelli p6000's, now Bridgestone g3's. Mileage - 66000+ (a lot lower than a certain black one... ) Fuel consumption (km/ltr): Best ever - 14.1 (NS highway blast) Worst ever - 8.9 (don't ask me what I was doing then.... ) Average - 11.5 Repairs and reliability - contrary to popular belief and despite countless doomsayers, I'm proud to report, apart from wear-and-tear issues and minor niggles (all listed below) she's been pretty much trouble-free. Repair costs and part replacement have also, contrary to general perception, been pretty reasonable. Unplanned repairs to-date: - sagging roof lining which I didn't notice (replaced under warranty) - faulty aircon vent (changed twice under warranty) - 12-volt plug in boot not working (blown fuse, replaced under warranty) - rear wheel hub (overtightened bolt snapped, replaced by now-mercifully-defunct dealer after some major haggling) - faulty temperature sensor ($20) - brake pad change (can't remember price for pads, labour free ) - broken dipstick ($12) - blown gasket, oil leak (gasket replaced - $70 incl workmanship) - clogged throttle valve (after blast up and down NS h'wy) - blown front indicator, orange bulb ($5) - front passenger window lifter module replacement ($330 - incl workmanship...ouch!) - complete transmission shift linkage replacement ($240 - incl workmanship - very pleased with outcome ) Agenda for the coming year - timing belt (ouch time.... ) - clutch - possibly another window module Likes to-date - build quality for a car of its range still impresses 3 years on - toys, toys and more toys (cruise control, ICE with speed-sensitive volume adjustment and split front-rear function control, trip computer, built-in rear blind which I hardly use, great 6-disc CD changer, digital climate control) - decent handling (not the best) in stock form, not-too-firm ride - surprisingly stable at highway speeds - usually ignored, which I really appreciate in M'sia (some say she's Korean..... ) - damped grab handles.... - huge boot - poor resale value - decent power to haul the family Dislikes to-date - lack of cubby holes - nonsense radio reception (then again, there's not much to listen to.... ) - tempremental alarm (especially in my 1st year of ownership ) - in-dash changer means a joke-of-a glovebox - fragile dipstick - squealy brakes in the morning with Mintex pads (sounds like an SBS bus when I leave for work....) - rubbery, inconsistent (and seemingly mood-dependent) gearshift, made worse by wear-and-tear - monster boot compromises rear legroom - lacks power when I'm alone In short, I'm definitely looking forward to spending a couple more years with her...
