  1. One problem Mercedes Benz has in South East Asia is that a lot of people here think that Mercedes Benz is for 'Towkays', old people and uncles. I, for one do not think for one second that this is true. It is actually the opposite actually. If you've driven the latest crop of Mercedes, you'd be amazed on the performance (even from the smallest 1.6-litre BlueEfficiency C-Class), the steering feel and the handling of their latest cars. Then if you're actually lucky enough to play around with their V8 powered cars, even the 'Ronin' special 1970s Mercedes Benz 450SEL 6.9 (which I had the chance to actually hitch a ride in one quite recently) to the latest C 63 AMG you would almost be instantaneously converted into a Benzophile (if there is such a word). Of course, you could look at this Wimmer RS tuned Mercedes Benz C 63 AMG and then tell me whether this car is an 'uncle' car or not. This Wimmer RS C 63 AMG is something that you could drive up to Katy Perry and ask her out on a date. It is also something that you could drive to a Lady Gaga or a Niki Minaj concert and not feel ashamed at all. You'd be partying with the stars if you had one of these in your driveway. Of course, if you're a motorhead, you'd be more interested to know that Wimmer RS had tuned this car based on the upgraded C 63 AMG with the Performance Pack. This means that the car makes 593bhp from 480bhp and 720Nm torque from a 'paltry' 720Nm. This must be courtesy of some forced induction I presume. German based Wimmer RS also adds a custom tuned KW coilover suspension, 19-inch wheels and a MOV'IT-ceramic brake system so that it also slows down after going fast. Now this very youthful and non 'uncle' looking C 63 gets a matte vinyl wrap. This means that the fancy colour blue-green scheme was actually derived from stickers. I believe there is a vacuum for truly outrageously tuned and styled Mercedes Benz cars over here in this region. Could someone fill it please?
  2. The 6th of April 2011 marked the day where Team Mercedes GP Petronas held its 'Meet the Fans' session in conjunction with the Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix. The session, held at the Suria KLCC shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur was a packed and quite successful event with both drivers, 7 time world champion Michael Schumacher and his racing partner, Nico Rosberg spent some time answering a short Q &A as well as signing autographs at the concourse area of the shopping mall. The Mercedes Petronas GP promotional booth basically took up the whole concourse area with the team souvenirs, Petronas products and the piece de resistance, the official South East Asian public showing of the new Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG 4 door coupe. Speaking of the CLS 63 I have to say that viewing the car in person is so much better than viewing the car in the official photographs. It looks so much better in the metal and that slightly more blunt nose actually works. If I looked at the official photographs I had the opinion that the earlier CLS had a sportier outlook but I have now changed my mind. The new and improved CLS 63 looks stunning. It has a myriad of lines that look very cohesive, must more than the earlier CLS55/63 and shows subtle aggression. I loved the little touches, especially that 'show off' badging on the front flanks
  3. The W204 Mercedes Benz AMG C63 is my on my wish list for most outrageous small car-big engine combo and if I could afford the actual purchase price, the maintenance, road tax and insurance may kill me afterwards. The reason why I love this car so much is that it has a sense of humour. I mean, the engineer who designed this car must have had such a fun time oversteering everywhere and shredding rubber everytime he stomps on the accelerator, or 'happy' pedal as I would call it. It is also a favourite of a few German tuners too, who somehow think that the stock arches, both front and back which are already a good deal wider than the stock C-Class Mercedes, isn't wide enough. One of them is a tuner called Markuzzi who in the tuning fraternity could be considered as a wide arch expert. Here, Markuzzi have basically added more visible bulk to the 6.3liter V8 C63, especially at the rear wheel arch and some extra inches on the front too. This high fat, high carbohydrate diet has enabled the C63, which was already on a high protein weightlifter's diet to begin with, to become an incredible hulk of a C63. So much so that the car does not look pretty at all. I think its a body kit too much. It looks like a muscle car from the 1970s instead of a Mercedes AMG. Maybe the AMG here stands for
  4. Mercedes Benz UK in conjunction with the launch of its Specialist Products Division located at Mercedes Benz World in Brooklands, Surrey has previewed the very limited edition Mercedes Benz AMG C63 DR520. The 'DR' here stands for something very simple, in that the engine is 'Dyno Rated' to 520bhp. This C63 is an exclusive 20 unit limited edition (in either sedan or estate form) launched in commemoration to the above mentioned launch. The makers of Awesomely Mega and Grunty Mercedes Benzes, AMG, have fitted the already mad C63 with the AMG Performance Pack as standard to the C63 DR520. The Performance Pack includes AMG
  5. I have a soft spot for the current model BMW M3. It is the first M3 with a V8 engine and one that was made to put up a fight against the Mercedes AMG C63 and the Audi RS4 B7 chassis. It is actually the fastest around a race track compared to the other two due to its balanced chassis (even for a car with a big V8 up front) resulting in masterful handling. The C63 was basically an axe murderer running around in a Hugo Boss suit. It sounded stupendous, looked its part with the flaired arches and rims but it often tried to kill its driver if driven hard. The Audi RS4 somehow looked too plain even with those fatter wheel arches, drove well but was somehow a little too clinical for some. But it sounded great anyway. So the M3 fills up a slot in between the two. Its 4 liter V8 may not be as sonorous as the other two but it could pull its weight with its 414bhp yet able to waft along at city speeds easily. The body work was also an exercise in self restraint, with everything pulled tight around its chassis and around those wheels. But for those who want a little more flair, BMW North America has recently launched some authorized carbon fiber parts that should be made available globally soon (or at the very least, copied by all those accessory shops that sell BMW upgrades very soon). The aerodynamic parts are a new rear deck lid spoiler, mirror caps, and front splitters. All of these are constructed of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) composite material and matchs the standard CFRP roof panel that you get on the M3 Coupe. Each component is wind tunnel shaped which ensures compatibility with the overall aerodynamic "signature" of the M3, serving to reduce lift and minimize drag. Like the CFRP roof panels on the M3 Coupe and M6 Coupe, BMW Performance components made of carbon fiber. Each component is finished in a special clear coat laminate to reflect ultraviolet radiation and have been climate and durability tested during development to ensure long-term quality. However, do not expect these parts to be cheap, as they are factory approved items. These are usually never cheap if you know what I mean.
