Audi R8 V10 Plus vs Ducati Diavel in straight line performance
SYF77 posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
In a recent episode of Autocar, Steve Sutcliffe pitted the German supercar, the 2013 Audi R8 V10 against the Ducati Diavel. For readers' information, the Diavel is the second cruiser motorcycle from Ducati, an Italian company that designs and manufactures motorcycles. Ducati is owned by Audi. Weighing 234kg with a 162bhp, 1198cc two-cylinder engine, the Diavel has a power-to-weight ratio of 692bhp per tonne. At the other corner, the 5.2-litre, 542bhp R8 has a power-to-weight figure of 340bhp per tonne. Looking at the power-to-weight ratio, it looks like the Audi is at a disadvantage. However, this test takes into consideration both acceleration and deceleration of the two vehicles. Who is going to come out on top?- 1 comment

The 2014 Mercedes S-Class will be offered in three body styles which will underpin five models. The three body styles will have varying wheelbase length. The new line-up will include a new coupe model intended to go head to head with the Bentley Continental GT while the cabriolet version is being targeted at Continental GTC. According to a source from Autocar, "the front is a lot more aggressive and there's added structure to the flanks with a prominent drop line, a more rounded turret line and the rear overhang is significantly shorter". The standard and long-wheelbase versions of the new S-class will be revealed to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year. The Pullman, which stretches over 5.7m, is expected to make its debut at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show. The Pullman is likely to replace the Maybach 57 uber-luxury saloon, which will compete against the likes of the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Bentley Continental Flying Spur. The all-new S-Class will be equipped with a host of safety features such as rear seatbelt airbags, Active Parking Assist, Attention Assist and Distronic Plus. Photo Credit: worldcarfans.com

Autocar pits Audi A1 Quattro against Nissan GT-R on wet, twisty track
SYF77 posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Autocar's Editor, Steve Sutcliffe, recently pitted the Nissan GT-R Track Pack against the Audi A1 Quattro in a portion of the MIRA test track which is located in the former RAF Lindley airfield. The A1 Quattro is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 253bhp. On the other hand, the GT-R is propelled by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 with over 500bhp. So, with nearly two times the capacity and power, the German supermini seemed destined to be devoured by the Japanese monster. However, Sutcliffe's verdict was that the GT-R was all over the place as it was too heavy and could not put its excessive power down on the road while the A1 Quattro was much more composed. The GT-R recorded a lap time of 1:19.32 while the A1 complete the same route in a more convincing 1:14.80. However, GT-R fans may argue that the car's electronic stability control and traction control could be turned off during the test, resulting in its lacklustre performance.- 4 comments

Recently, I chanced upon a Youtube video where Autocar UK pits the all-new 2012 BMW M5 against the MY2012 Nissan GT-R. The history of the M5 is legendary, dating back to 1984 where the first generation was then the fastest production sedan in the world. On the other hand, the GT-R is perhaps one of the best, if not the best ultra high performance sports car that Japan has ever produced. It is currently one of the fastest production cars to lap the N

- Group recognized as having "mind-blowing" ambition - 5th largest automotive company behind Toyota, GM, Ford and Audi-VW - Offering well-designed cars of great quality with longer warranties than other manufacturers in the market (SEOUL) November 18, 2008 -- The UK's oldest motoring magazine, Autocar, has named Hyundai-Kia as its Car Company of the Year at its annual award ceremony in Westminster London, England. The annual Autocar awards event is widely considered Europe's most prestigious industry accolades ceremony and is where the European Car of the Year Award winner is announced. Citing the Korean giant's "mind-blowing" ambition, editor Chas Hallet presented the title to Mr. Nam-Yong Kim, President of Hyundai-Kia's European Research and Development Centre in Germany. Hallett commented, "When the irrepressible Hyundai-Kia group started talking, just a few years ago, about wanting to become the world's fifth largest car company behind Toyota, GM, Ford and Audi-VW, many of us were sceptical. "Then the Korean group got serious. They hatched a plan to assemble a European design and engineering team to conceive a range of models for Europe. Boldly, they challenged the VW Golf and Ford Focus head on, building cars that looked as good and worked as well - and offering them with a far longer warranty, just for good measure. "They began to acquire a reputation as the Eastern marques that would bring forth bold design concepts, much as Citroen has been doing in Europe, and they built separate factories for Hyundai and Kia in lower-cost Eastern Europe, servicing both operations from handily placed engine and gearbox plants," he added. The product of a merger in 1998, Hyundai-Kia currently dominate the Korean domestic car market with an 80 per cent share and this year became the world's fifth largest car-maker, according to Automotive News in the US. With plants in North America, China, Europe and other locations including Russia, the Middle East and South East Asia, Hyundai-Kia have climbed into the top ranks of the world's biggest car companies in less than 50 years. Both companies began making automobiles in the 1960s and didn't start exporting their products until the 1980s. Kia currently builds its cee'd family and Sportage SUV models at its state-of-the-art factory in Zilina in the Slovak Republic and construction of a plant in Georgia, US is nearing completion. President Nam-Yong Kim commented, "This recognition of the efforts of everyone within Hyundai and Kia is a great honour, coming from such a renowned publication as Autocar. This is a significant recognition of the determination of our Chairman, Mr. Mong-Koo Chung and all of our people to firmly put the Korean automotive industry on the global map." Volvo XC90 and BMW X5L: The sludge match By Autocar Buy one and your life will almost certainly be made easier Let's get two things straight right away. First, the non-off-roading off-roader may be the most maligned of motoring breeds, but it's also one of the most bought. We're converts; you need to have driven a big four-wheel drive around town to get the appeal of sitting high above traffic, unfazed by kerbs, with seats, space, cupholders and cubbyholes only a people carrier can match, yet without the dowdy image. We're not going to debate whether you should buy one; your life will almost certainly be made easier if you do. Second, this test won't give much weight to these cars' ability to scale Scafell Pike. Only a tiny minority of those sold in the UK will even venture onto its foothills. Plainly, this hands a clear advantage to the two cars you really want to read about - the XC90 and the BMW X5 - as well as the Mercedes ML. But it will be instructive to see if there's any point buying a capable off-roader for road use; as we'll see, the Volvo, BMW and Mercedes don't get it all their own way. Buy one of these and practicality and ease are clearly more important to you than lap times; they make most sense with the economy and lazy low-revs urge of a diesel, so that's how we've specified them. The XC90 immediately looks impressive; for your

They actually like it! plus its 75 kg lighter for each model over the earlier E39 series... In their words, "this time, design boss Chris Bangle and his team have crafted a more restrained sports saloon. All the key BMW design cues - kidney grille, double headlamps, 'Hofmeister' kink in the C-pillar - remain but have been re-interpreted. The overall look, though reminiscent of the 7-series, is cleaner, sleeker and sportier. As revealed, the new face of future BMWs has a sloping kidney grille and pointed, wrap-around headlamps giving a streamlined appearance. New engine mounting points allow for a lower bonnet, topped by the signature V-shaped contour running back to the A-pillars."
