Can someone here who does insurance provide insights in how to calulate a insurance policy for car renewal ? Year to year with the age of the car, if I scrap my car or total my car, its market value . Why is it that I am paying more each year intead of less? Somehow I get the feeling I am paying to the insurance company and it all depends on the insurance company to decide how much they want to increase their revenue. I have yet to hear of insurance company that went bankrupt because that year there were so many car accident that the comapny cannot sustain...

NEW YORK - Singapore's Andy Chua has won the right to dine with the world's third-richest man Warren Buffett, news reports said on Saturday. Mr Chua put up his winning bid of about US$2.2 million (S$2.71m) on eBay to have lunch with investment guru, Mr Buffett, reported the Omaha World-Herald, which is owned Berkshire Hathaway Inc, where Mr Buffett is Chief Executive. The five-day auction attracted 12 bidders who made 121 bids. Bidders had to put in a minimum bid of US$25,000, and had to be certified as legitimate by the auction company. Mr Chua's winning bid - a grand total of US$2,166,766. Little else is known about him. He and 7 others will get to meet Mr Buffett in Manhattan for lunch at Smith & Wollensky, a 10-restaurant chain of steakhouses with small-batch bourbons and deep-polished wood. A shrimp cocktail there costs about US$20 and the long bone rib-eye close to US$70. Bloomberg News reported that Chua was the 12th and final hopeful to bid with less than 10 minutes to go in the auction Friday evening. What would you do if you lost your most prized possession? This man, Robert Russell, went looking for his stolen sports car on eBay for 42 years! Robert Russell never gave up searching for the 1967 Austin-Healey, which was stolen from his home in Philadelphia in 1970. Russell recently spotted what he thought was his car on eBay. He checked the vehicle identification number on the website against the one on the car's title certificate and found they matched. Russell, who now lives in Texas, then contacted the police in May who then tracked down the car in East Los Angeles. "Detective Ortega located the stolen Austin-Healey at the dealership listed in the eBay ad and confirmed that the car was the same vehicle reported stolen by Mr. Russell," the department said. After working with Philadelphia police to resolve vehicle identification issues, the department told Russell he could pick up his car. He has since brought it back to Texas. Russell told deputies that he bought the vehicle for US$3,000 (S$3,746). It's now valued at US$23,000 (S$28,724). Robert Russell said he continued his search for the vehicle, not for its monetary value, but because it had sentimental value to both him and his wife.

It's only natural for today's children, even toddlers, to play with their parents' smartphones, at least so it seems. Even my 2-year old niece is used to playing her mother's iPad. Well, most of the time, nothing of a big deal would actually happen as she would only play games or watch some videos on the tablet. However, it seems that this toddler seen in the video is just one step ahead of other kids of her age in terms of being tech savvy. While playing with his Dad's smartphone, Sorella Stoute (a 13-month old toddler living in Portland, Oregon, America) happened to successfully place a bid - which she finally won - on eBay for a 1962 Austin Healey Sprite! When eBay sent the car to Paul Stoute, the toddler's father, he was all shocked as he had never even placed any bid on the '62 Austin. He also wrote to eBay mentioning that it was his daughter who accidentally placed that bid, which later caused the auction site to consider the previous highest bidder. However, when eBay mentioned that Paul's daughter had such an eye for a nice car, he changed his mind and borrowed some money from his family to pay for the car. Now, what Paul has in mind is to place the car as a gift for her daughter's 16th birthday. He has also set up a website from which people can donate some money to help him fix the car before her daughter finally reaches 16. One great thing about the car I'll have to say is that despite it being made back in 1962, it has almost no rust on it, at least that's what Paul noted on his website. For your information, though, the car would need its roof, brakes, transmission, and engine replaced if Paul really wants to give his daughter a working car on her 16th birthday. The car costs $225 in total and Stoute mentioned that it was lucky for him that his daughter didn't happen to buy the Porsche he was also looking at on the auction site before his daughter tampered with his smartphone. Had the 13-month old bought the Porsche instead, Stoute would have had to pay a total of $38,000! It seems that this is really going to be a good lesson to remind us never to leave our smartphones unattended. As for Stoute, he has now secured his smartphone with a new PIN and also a face recognition application. Ferrari has auctioned off the first US-spec Ferrari F12berlinetta, with the proceedings going to the the American Red Cross in aid of the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Sandy developed from a tropical wave in the western Caribbean Sea on October 22. It quickly strengthened and was upgraded to tropical storm six hours later. In the US, Hurricane Sandy affected 24 states with New York City badly flooded on 29 October. Power was also cut around the city. The event took place at the inaugural 2012 Formula One Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. Ferrari started bidding of the supercar at US$315,888 (S$386,173). The bidding ended at US$1.125 (S$1.375) million with the top bidder by the name of Larry Roth who hails from Long Island. Donors donated an additional US$345,000 bringing the total funds raised to almost US$1.5 (S$1.83) million. Larry will receive the delivery of Ferrari's most powerful road-going car in Q2 of 2013. Powered by a 6.3-litre V12 naturally-aspirated engine, the F12berlinetta sprints from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.1 seconds. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Formula one grand prix will once again grace the soil of The United States. Despite news reports stating that New York was Ecclestone's preferred location, Austin (Texas) will in face stage its first race in year 2012. The 10-year contract is for a "purpose-built" facility, F1 chief executive Ecclestone said in a statement, although details including an actual site, cost or race date were not released. A report of the AP news agency said the venue would be built "within 10 miles" of Austin airport. The promoter for the event is Full Throttle Productions, headed by Tavo Hellmund. Mr Tavo is said to have known Mr Ecclestone for 30 years. "We have been diligently working together for several years to bring this great event to Austin, the State of Texas and back to the United States," said Hellmund. Never on a purpose-built circuit, previous US grand prix have been held at Watkins Glen, Long Beach, Las Vegas, Detroit, Dallas and Phoenix. Between 2000 and 2007, the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosted the event, and spokesman Fred Nation on Tuesday questioned whether the "business deal" between F1 and Austin is a sound one.
