Gunmen have shot dead 12 people at the Paris office of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in an apparent militant Islamist attack. Four of the magazine's well-known cartoonists, including its editor, were among those killed, as well as two police officers. A major police operation is under way to find three gunmen who fled by car. President Francois Hollande said there was no doubt it had been a terrorist attack "of exceptional barbarity". The masked attackers opened fire with assault rifles in the office and exchanged shots with police in the street outside before escaping by car. They later abandoned the car in Rue de Meaux, northern Paris. Witnesses said they heard the gunmen shouting "we have avenged the Prophet Muhammad". The number of attackers was initially reported to be two, but French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve later said they were hunting three "criminals". Charlie Hebdo editor Stephane Charbonnier, 47, had received death threats in the past and was living under police protection. French media have named the three other cartoonists killed in the attack as Cabu, Tignous and Wolinski. The attack took place during the magazine's daily editorial meeting. At least seven people were wounded in the attack, with several in critical condition. The satirical weekly has courted controversy in the past with its irreverent take on news and current affairs. It was fire-bombed in November 2011 a day after it carried a caricature of the Prophet Muhammad. The latest tweet on Charlie Hebdo's account was a cartoon of the Islamic State militant group leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. People had been "murdered in a cowardly manner", President Hollande told reporters at the scene. "We are threatened because we are a country of liberty," he added, appealing for national unity. US President Barack Obama has condemned the "horrific shooting", offering to provide any assistance needed "to help bring these terrorists to justice". UK Prime Minister David Cameron said in a tweet: "The murders in Paris are sickening. We stand with the French people in the fight against terror and defending the freedom of the press." SALT LAKE CITY: Microsoft Corp purposefully duped a Utah company into believing its writing application would be included in the Windows 95 rollout, then pulled the plug so Microsoft could gain market share with its own product, an attorney said Tuesday in closing arguments for a $1 billion antitrust lawsuit against the software giant. "It was purely a predatory action," Novell Inc. attorney Jeff Johnson told jurors. Utah-based Novell sued Microsoft in 2004, claiming the Redmond, Wash., company violated U.S. antitrust laws through its arrangements with other software makers when it launched Windows 95. Novell said it was later forced to sell WordPerfect for a $1.2 billion loss. Novell is now a wholly owned subsidiary of The Attachmate Group, the result of a merger that was completed earlier this year. Microsoft lawyers have argued that Novell's loss of market share was its own doing because the company didn't develop a compatible WordPerfect program until long after the rollout of Windows 95. "Novell was late. It was always behind. It was playing catch-up," Microsoft attorney David Tulchin said during closing arguments. The jury was expected to begin deliberations on Wednesday. Tulchin recapped testimony by a series of former WordPerfect and Novell executives who recalled that WordPerfect was hitting its zenith by the time Novell bought it in 1994. Novell neglected the product and was slow to develop new versions for the Windows operating system or recognize the power of Microsoft's graphical operating system, he said. "In the high-tech world where things can move quickly ... the market can kill you," he said. Novell's lawsuit is the last major private antitrust case to follow the settlement of a federal antitrust enforcement action against Microsoft more than eight years ago. Novell's trial began in October in federal court in Salt Lake City. Johnson has conceded that Microsoft was under no legal obligation to provide advance access to Windows 95 so Novell could prepare a compatible version. Microsoft, however, enticed Novell to work on a version, only to withdraw support months before Windows 95 hit the market, he said. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates testified last month that he had no idea his decision to drop a tool for outside developers would sidetrack Novell. Gates said he was acting to protect Windows 95 and future versions from crashing. Novell could have worked around the problem but failed to react quickly, he said. Gates also said Novell couldn't deliver a compatible WordPerfect program in time for the rollout, and that Microsoft's own Word program was actually better. He said that by 1994, the Word writing program was ranked No. 1 in the market, above WordPerfect. WordPerfect once had nearly 50 percent of the market for word processing, but its share quickly plummeted to less than 10 percent as Microsoft's own Office programs took hold. Mrs Lim, at a PAP rally in Aljunied GRC last night, referred to Mr Low's accusation that she was out to discredit him with her comments about the finances of Hougang Town Council. Mrs Lim, who denied launching a personal attack, said she had merely asked why the WP was not providing residents of a HUDC estate details of their sub-accounts with the town council. "I had merely repeated a question which his own HUDC residents have asked repeatedly. Mr Low has become very defensive," she said. Mr Low had explained on Tuesday that the separation of accounts was taking time as they wanted to get it right. Mrs Lim also noted that, early on in the campaign, Mr Low had likened contesting Aljunied GRC to approaching the tiger's mountain. "George (Yeo) protested, he said, 'Do we look like tigers?' But what did Mr Low say? He said that George's Mandarin was bad and he said that George needs tutoring in Mandarin." When asked why he chose to contest in Aljunied, Mr Low had said it was "to teach us a lesson", she added. "Now I ask you who is more personal? "Mr Low Thia Khiang is way more personal in his attacks and he is arrogant." Mrs Lim also focused on how Singapore's system must not become rigid nor its Government become "empty of feelings". Citing the frustrations of singles looking after their elderly parents without benefit of incentives and full-time mothers who were not eligible for tax and childcare incentives, she said: "Sometimes, the rules trip them up." Gang attacks motorist By Khushwant Singh ANGRY that a motorist had honked at him, Li Guoshing, 24, blocked and kicked the vehicle. He and 10 friends later attacked the motorist. On Thursday, Li pleaded guilty to both offences and was jailed six months for being a member of an unlawful assembly that attacked Mr Eric Lee Shi Da. For kicking the car, he was fined $2,000 and ordered to pay $700 to compensate for the damage he caused. Mr Lee, 28, was driving with a friend, when a group of men dashed across the road in front of Club Sabai Sabai at Shenton Way. Mr Lee had to brake abruptly and sounded his horn. Li walked up to the front of the car and hurled obscenities at the two occupants. When Mr Lee refused his challenge to come out, Li kicked the front of the car. After Li moved away, Mr Lee drove to a nearby car park and discovered that the front body kit along the bumper of his car was broken. He and his friend then returned to the area outside Club Sabai Sabai. As he was trying to settle the matter with Li, Mr Lee received a blow on his back and fell. Li and his group then punched and kicked him repeatedly, only stopping when the club's security officers intervened. He was later treated at the Singapore General Hospital for bruises on the head, neck and arm. A third charge of behaving in a riotous manner by repeatedly charging at a patron with a bottle in Club Sabai Sabai was taken into consideration by District Judge Lee Poh Choo when passing sentence. Here I want to share my experience with both kinds of Coats after the layer of Polish; ie Wax vs Sealant Whenever I apply my sealant - currently using Soft99 Fusso 12mths paste for Dark cars, there is frequent appearance of 'streaks' or 'patches' Here I conclude that the sealant has in its purpose of bonding with the paint, actually 'mixed' with the underlying paint In the long run, if sealants are used too often, the underlying paint would be constantly under erosion or attack. Here I think, although bonding or protection is longer for sealants, the sealant has at the same time, 'taken out' some underlying paint as well. Whereas for waxes, its layering does not affect the paint, therefore it wears off faster. Is this observation true for you? This is just another of my stupid ownself-think theory and ownself stupid conclusion, use less sealant, more wax -- it goes a longer way cheers
