CNA news report : NDP 2012 to reflect Singaporeans' love for country By Joanne Chan | Posted: 25 April 2012 1648 hrs SINGAPORE: This year's National Day Parade (NDP) hopes to be a time for Singaporeans to reflect on their love for the country, with the theme "Loving Singapore, Our Home" . And this year's organisers hope to get Singaporeans to express their love for the country, through video or photo contests. The man tasked with running the parade smoothly certainly knows the theme well. The parade's executive committee chairman, Colonel Desmond Tan, said: "From the smallest thing like having a nice breakfast with my family, to the moments I stepped down from a long flight and coming home to Changi Airport, these are the moments I cherish. "But most of all, Singapore is where I'm born, and where I grew up and where I lived out my dreams and this is where my family and friends are." Singapore's 47th birthday celebration promises to be a visual treat, bringing back old favourites, such as the combined school choir, last seen two years ago. Other crowd favourites include the marching contingents, the flag fly-past and the Red Lions freefall display. The parade will also feature a salute to 45 years of National Service. I used to be proud of Singapore, serve my NS with pride, endure all tough training whether in rain or shine, whether chiong 'Peng Kang Hill' or Marsiling Hills, going weeks without bath. Nowadays, hot or rainy weather, training cancelled... So proud to own a 5 rooms HDB flat back in the 80's but now, I am worried for my children whether they can affort a 3 ~ 4 rooms HDB flats, So proud to own a 7 seater car years back but now, feel sad when my oversea friends ask me why the piece of 'Paper' value could have fetch them 2 or 3 2000cc cars in their coutries. A less than 1.5cc car cost almost S$90K ??? Quote what Colonel Desmond Tan, said: "From the smallest thing like having a nice breakfast with my family, to the moments I stepped down from a long flight and coming home to Changi Airport, these are the moments I cherish. "But most of all, Singapore is where I'm born, and where I grew up and where I lived out my dreams and this is where my family and friends are." Singapore is Where I'm born, thats a facts, Where I grew Up, no choice as not born with 'silver spoon' & have to work my way up and lastly Where I lived out my dreams, have too not where to go as I set up my family here. Am I going to get 'nightmare' instead of dreams in coming years? HDB price soars, car price soars, medical fee soars, dental fee lagi soars, food price soars, Uni fee soars, public transportations fee soars (although at a slower pace), my CPF minimum deposit also soars to $131,000/-, age to withdraw CPF going up.... The theme "Loving Singapore, Our Home" , I will try my very best, no promises...

Anything online can be deleted for a price in China Big companies can even pay for yearly internet monitoring and real-time deletion of negative news posts year-round Asia Tech News For The World | 13-03-12 March 15, World Consumer Rights Day, is something of a big deal in China. Among other things, state broadcast conglomerate CCTV generally uses it as an excuse to drag skeletons out of the closets of a variety of Chinese businesses, those reports can easily turn into full-blown national scandals, especially when fueled by internet public opinion. So say you

Since the part on the experience of the overseas grad is taken from TR, I will leave it to you to your judgments to its authenticity What is most interesting is the part highlighted in red Did not know the HK govt will go to the full extent of performing all the necessary checks to ensure employers only employ foreigners because they have got no choice to protect the interests of the locals there. Any bros familiar with HK or it's policies can advice if this is true? From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...me_anymore.html Posted on 20 Jan 2012 Woes of an overseas grad: S'pore doesn't feel like home anymore STOMPer Alex shares the experiences of a Singaporean overseas grad, who found it tough getting a job both overseas and locally. Just realize that Mac has stopped giving out mayonnaise packet source and we can no longer request for extra tartar source in a saucer... Initially just simply don't understand cuz the staffs just told me this : "we stopped giving out already for safety reason" Thought they just wanna cut cost by taking away the mayonnaise source. But for the tartar source??? Can't be cutting cost since they put it in their fish fillet. Frankly, I didn't quite get it...what safety reasons?? The staffs will slip & fall in kitchen hence can't walk inside to take for me the tartar source?? No notice or memo shown to the public and worse if u do not educated your staffs well on the reason.... End up, I finally got a acceptable explanation from a mgr....they started implementing this becuz I think someone had prob gotten some mild food poisoning and blamed it on the tartar source....and becuz when they give out extra source separately, they can't control when the customer gonna consume it & the source may turn bad easily if it's not kept chilled... Now I know....

MM Lee: 4 values drive S'pore Mon, Aug 16, 2010 my paper HIGH integrity among its leaders and meritocracy are two of four basic values that laid the foundation for Singapore's success over the past 45 years, said Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew last night. "Everyone can get to the top as political leaders, MPs," he said, or through "the civil service and statutory boards". People get to where they are on merit, not through guanxi, nepotism or corruption, he added. Guanxi is Mandarin for "connections and social reputation". He was addressing more than 1,000 residents and grassroots leaders at a National Day dinner for his constituency at Tanjong Pagar Community Centre. He said: "No policy is skewed as a result of personal benefit or profits." Having a level playing field for all citizens is the third basic value. He said: "No one is advantaged by our national policies, whatever their race, language or religion." >>Too much negativity lately...this man has to come out to reassure once more!<< The fourth value is the use of English as the working language, which has made Singapore the business, banking and communications hub it is today. He went on to say that the country's problems are "not unique" and that about 70 per cent of them were faced and solved by other nations. However, he said, the Government has "studied how they have managed their problems and why some are more successful than others. Then we extracted the principles to adapt and modify them to fit our society". The nation has also harnessed innovation to find its own solutions. For instance, it implemented he Electronic Road Pricing to control city congestion and alleviated its water shortage with Newater, which reclaims water via membrane technology.Knowledge for Compliance and Control Other cities, such as those in China and the Gulf states, have in turn approached Singapore companies to tackle water recycling and waste management. Moreover, Singapore's policies are "not set in stone", MM Lee said. They are continuously re-examined and modified along with changing world circumstances. He gave the example of how the Government was against Formula One racing for many decades because the city was crowded and allowing it would encourage people to race on roads. >>Wait a minute, he meant that 10-20years ago the road was already crowded? << However, it was given the green light when the Government recognised that "the F1 has a jet-set following and could generate economic spin-offs". >>Ok Ok..from his statement am i right to say....$$$ first.....singaporean last perhaps?<< MM Lee said: "It has been a sparkling success." >>For WHO??? Who Gain?<< Most significantly, to build a vibrant country that creates jobs for all, he reiterated the need for an exceptionally strong government with "the ablest, the toughest and most dedicated" leaders". He said: "We headhunt for them and test them out in heavy responsibilities. Only such leaders can keep the economy growing and create good jobs and generate revenue to pay for the equipment and training of our 3G (third-generation) SAF." However, one area in which Singapore has done poorly is its fertility rate. MM Lee said: "We will nearly halve our population in one generation." >>HE must have forgotten his previous policy.<< As a result, the Government has had to select immigrants from Malaysia, China, India and the region. Although the first generation would take time to assimilate because of different cultures and habits, "their children will grow up Singaporeans". "We must help them to integrate into our society, not exclude them," he concluded.

The original British Mini is something of an icon all around the world, and with good reason. The little runabout combined such praiseworthy virtues as small size and light weight, incredibly efficient front-wheel-drive packaging and a good dose of fun-to-drive enjoyment all in one relatively inexpensive machine that also managed to look pretty darn good. So small was the seminal design from Sir Alec Issigonis that it was given the name Mini by its makers, the British Motor Corporation. So, when the marque was picked up by BMW when it acquired the ailing Rover brand, you'd expect that the next-gen Mini would also be... well, mini. And it is, sort of. When parked next to nearly any modern car this side of a Smart Fortwo, the modern Mini is indeed pretty darn small. Each successive vehicle from the reborn brand, though, has upped the size ante just a wee bit, from the Cooper to the Clubman to the not-yet-released Countryman. And when you park a Countryman next to the original 1959 Morris Mini Minor, as was recently done by the fine chaps at Auto Express, the size disparity is blatantly obvious. See for yourself.

Everyday when I drive, I am usually in hurry. So I use the overtaking lane all the time and (sometimes) speed. Usually people will get out of my way and signal left, as is the normal case for the OT lane, or if there is a jam on the OT lane, i will slow and follow the front car at a far distance. However I notice every day niowadays when I am using OT lane there are many kayu around travelling usually at about 50 km/h and are like a brick. I flash light... horn... do everything, they pretend they dont see and just continue going at 50 km/h.... Last week I on the PIE heading to tuas fr changi... one kayu i trail all the way... P plate somemore... damn si beh sian... I eventually overtake, after traling her from eunos to adam !!! She drive at 55 km/h... as shown on my HUD... i even wave at her besides flashing and signal right, she continue driving like a brick. I dont know why these type of drivers exist but everyday I face them and it is getting really sianzzzz..... why cant they just leave the OT lane for people who are in a hurry and are skilled drivers. If they are not comfortable then they should take middle or left lane lah....aiyah... dont know what to say....

Was clearing my storeroom and found that I have 2 pieces of RH wing mirrors (in classic Red), and a set of original shifter set (for stick-shift), complete with bushings and hardware. Anymore Sephia/Mentor/Spectra owners needing the parts? The wing mirrors should fit the Sephia/Mentor, the ones on the Spectra is more "rectangular". Might fit, but will be lobsided. The shifter should be compatible to all Sephia/Mentor & Spectra too. Just leave me a PM, giving them away. Offer till end of May 09 only!
