Bros & Sistas, Appreciate help on this ..... My battery was recently very flat....then I suspected that the battery was probably up the lorry liao...changed another one amd less than 4 weeks, also up the lorry again... Brought to a tyre and battery workshop....worry like sxxt if the alternator was kapoot as I suspected that the battery was not being charged during driving...but mechanic see see look look... say alternator not spoilt....confirm.....its something got to do with my battery clamps...that is causing 'battery leakage'.... Now got myself a new maintenance battery, all just in 01 month... So, any wise Chia Sin here, how do we know if its just the battery or the alternator is up the lorry... pls help!!!!

Recently my car's aircon is not working properly ie cold for a short while every time I start using the car and then it goes off, no cold air. Last nite, ABS and battery warning lights came on and soon power steering was gone. Horn no sound. Fortunately i reached the workshop and left it outside the main door as it was already 10pm. The engine wouldnt crank when i tried restart it to park closer to the side. This morning WS called me up telling me alternator spoilt. How does alternator affect ABS, Power Steering when it's spoilt? Thank you for your advice.

Just want to get the views of bros here before I get it to the workshop. Don't wish to go to one with no clues and end up paying more. I'm driving a mazda 3 SP and recently I'm having the following problem, intermittently though: 1) When I start the car, everything seems ok. Idling is fine. I started to move off. When I come to the first stop, car starts to vibrate, RPM drops to about 400 (or maybe lower). I have a volt gauge in the car, and it shows the voltage drop to about 11V. Car vibrates and then stall. 2) Re-start the car again and move off, reach another stop, same thing happens. 3) Re-start and move the car by the road side. Off the car completely, wait for a while, start it again and then move off and everything seems ok till I reach my destination. Observations:- 1) At "ACC ON", volt gauge shows 11.2V 2) Start the car, with everything off including aircon, voltage shows 12.8V 3) With aircon on, the voltage hovers around 12.8V thereabout Any comments about what could possibly be the problem? Thanks

...is a no no. If your workshop is still doing this, you are well advised to find another. And the reason is something called "Load Dump" Depending on certain conditions, a high voltage of up to 120V can be sent to your ECU. If it survived, you're lucky. If it's crippled or dead, oh well.. According to wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Load_dump In automotive electronics, it refers to the disconnection of the vehicle battery from the alternator while the battery is being charged. Due to such a disconnection of the battery, other loads connected to the alternator see a surge in power line. The peak voltage of this surge may be as high as 120 V and the surge may take up to 400 ms to decay.

for my cars usually when it is time for a change of batt, i will change to an oversized one. because my cars are usually underutilized and i ever been overseas for up to 2 mths. after 2 months, the car still start up fine !!!! One of the mechanic ever told me before, that the car's alternator is not a "smart" charger. there is no tickle-charge when the batt is almost full or it doesn't stop charging even when it is full. the load on the alternator is constant. anybody knows or can share his knowledge on this topic?

Just to check, alternator comes in different amp ratings. Does it mean a higher Amp alternator is better? Need bros who have knowledge on this to advise. If the higher the amp will it damaged the electrical circuits in the car? Or blown up the fuse? My car uses a 75A but thinking to upgrade it to 90A. Any advise will be appreciated.

hi there, i need a 150-200 Amp replacement alternator for my Mazda6. My current alternator is putting out abt 90A but it's not enough for my amp that's driving the subs. The amp is rated at 2000W @ 1Ohm. When running techno loud, the Voltage drops like crazy!! I have a 50Farad Cap but it's not charging fast enough. Some have advised me to change my current alternator pulley to a smaller one, ie. quick charge but that will increase the load on my engine (2.3L) and I dun wan a performance drop. Any lobangz where I might be able to get a higher output alternator is appreciated!!

While driving today my car suddenly loses power steering and within moments both the battery low and high temperature indicators lit-up. Fortunately I was only a few KM from home and managed to drive the car back without any further incident. After close examination, I found that the belt that connects the car's alternator and a few other parts of the engine has came off. One of the pulleys appeared loose, i.e, marginally angled when rotated. I also found a huge nut (slightly larger than size of 20 cents) at a bottom corner on the chassis which fits nicely to secure that loose pulley. My Picnic is already out of warranty, and the last servicing was in Oct last year was with Comfort Delgro where a "fan belt" was replaced. Bros, any suggestion where I can get this fixed at a low cost? I don't intend to spend much as the car will be de-registered in less than a couple of months time. Thanks!

Hi, Had just changed car battery. The previous 45AH batt registers 14.2v on the voltmeter while the car is running. The new 60AH batt shows only 13.9v. Could this happen because of oversizing of the battery? Any deterimental effects?

Hi! 1. Previous batt shld be ard 60 amh and alternator 80 amh (according to the mech who changed this recon one for me) 2. Recently batt died and mech changed to a 45 amh for me (mine cx) 3. Noticed that the rpm will only raise to 400~600 during start-up...it wldn't go up even if i step on the accelerator..only after i switch on the air-con and again step on the accelerator then the rpm will go to it's normal 1100. 4. Initially thought it was the CO so adjusted to higher one but didn't help. 5. Mech checked the battery with voltmeter and found that the alternator is charging ard 15+ and said that it's charging too high. 6. Symptoms: Rpm will drop to the extend of car dying off when I on the air-con with headlights or radio. I suspect it will be like tis during idling...cruising does not seems to have this problem. Note: It wasn't like this with my previous battery. What is the problem??!!

Hi, Anyone knows the AH output for the alternator on a Mazda 323 2002 car? Me found a 70AH battery, but no idea if my alternator is at least 70AH or more. I think it should be. But any one has any idea? I checked with the spare parts shop, they also have no idea on the AH on their alternator. I cannot use multimeter to test myself right? Coz without any load, the ampere will show very low. Is it?

Hi bros, as above. Is it possible that by changing the alternator, the car performance will be slightly better or so? thks ./zero
