  1. OK, I am not referring to Anti-lock Braking System but Auto-Brewery Syndrome. I didn't know about it until I read the following news. Have to say he is damn sway to be caught 3 times for drunk driving, when he is actually did not consume any alcohol. Belgian man whose body brews alcohol beats drink-driving rap BRUSSELS: A Belgian man with a very rare metabolic condition that causes his body to produce alcohol had a drink-driving charge against him dismissed in court on Monday (Apr 23). The 40-year-old proved that he has auto-brewery syndrome (ABS) which causes carbohydrates in his stomach to be fermented, increasing ethanol levels in his blood and resulting in signs of intoxication. His lawyer, Anse Ghesquiere, confirmed the unusual case to AFP after Belgian media reported on it. She said scientists believe that the number of ABS cases in the world is underestimated. Currently, only some 20 people globally have been officially diagnosed with the condition. She stressed that her client – whose identity was not given – gave evidence of his ABS after tests run by three doctors. The court recognised that factors unforeseen by law applied to the man's case and acquitted him of the charge. He ended up in court after police in April 2022 pulled his vehicle over and registered him giving a breathalyser reading of 0.91ml of alcohol per litre, and again a month later when his breath contained 0.71ml. The legal limit in Belgium is 0.22ml per litre of air exhaled, which corresponds to a blood alcohol level of 0.5g per litre. Previously, in 2019, the man had received a fine and a driving licence suspension despite protesting that he had not drunk any alcohol. He was apparently unaware of his syndrome before his latest run-in with police. Ghesquiere said she and her client were awaiting formal notification of the acquittal. She noted that the prosecution service had a month to lodge an appeal if it wished to do so. The man meanwhile was following a carbohydrate-light diet to avoid his stomach producing more alcohol. I can imagine people like our @mersaylee will be secretly wishing to have this ABS, so that he will not longer be subjected to wife's control on his alcohol intake. But hor he will soon look like the one in his avatar.
  2. Hi, I'm getting the Brake/ABS lights lighted in my Mazda 5. Electronic test done twice with slightly different error code. Tried resetting, it didn't work. Any idea of what might be the issue and recommendation on where I can get this sorted out? Thanks
  3. Nowadays an anti lock braking system is used in almost all modern vehicles. This system prevents accidents like this, where you lose control of the steering as you apply the brakes. With ABS you will be able to steer the vehicle properly and it also reduces the braking distance. What is ABS? How is it able to prevent accidents due to the braking? We will explore these questions in this video.
  4. I am driving Lancer EX 1.5A. I am getting the ABS warning lamp with the idicator indicating "Service Required". it doesn't go off even when I restart the engine. Has anyone experience this before and how did the workshop resolve it? How unlucky I am to get this issue over long weekend holidays when most workshops are closed. Will you suggest going back to Cycle & Carriage Service center or workshop such as Chip Soon Auto?
  5. Question... Does our local Honda authorised dealer sell Honda cars with Honda Sensing?? I've read and watched so much about it on the internet, but some member here said don't compare with other countries.
  6. My car is due for scrap soon, and am thinking of getting another car. Am budget conscious and no not mind size, style or performance, but as wife and/or my dad might sometimes drive it too, am looking for a car that has auto transmission and also ABS (for basic safety concern). Old car is fine, and am thinking of the non-jap makes as cars of 4-8 yr old came in at time when yen was strong so jap makes should be more expensive? Am thinking of Chevrolet Aveo. Is that the cheapest car that comes with auto and ABS? Anyone has any advice on this? Much appreciated. tks.
  7. I am having an issue with my 07 WRX recently. When stopping at traffic light for a long time, my ABS light comes on intermittently and when it does, my voltmeter reading drops below 10 and my radio goes off. After a while the voltmeter reading will go up, the ABS light goes off and the radio comes back on. When moving off, the car feels like there is a loss of power momentarily and will lurch forward for a bit if the ABS light is still on. Once I hit normal speeds the problem disappears. Once in a while the Check Engine Light will come on too. I sent it to a workshop today, and I ended up paying $50 for them to just tell me that there is some part that is probably failing, but there is no way for them to know until there is a permanent light. As the car is going to be scrapped next year, I don't want to spend $$$ on a wild goose chase to fix this problem. But at the same time I am driving Grab at night, so when the car lurches forward it's not comfortable for the passengers as well. I just got this car recently in April. Anyone experienced something similar before and can give advice? Have a short video here of the problem happening (pardon poor quality)https://youtu.be/t77PVht05GA
  8. Does anyone here know about or own Hyundai Verna 1.4A, from the 2005/2006 model? I'm considering getting one and am interested to know whether it has ABS. Is the car ok, for simple day-to-day use, and does it have any major or common problem? tks.
  9. Asking for a friend. These lights turned 'ON' after his wife skidded ( but didnt lose control). Now even after resetting ecu and disconnecting battery supply. A shop said his brake accumulator is damaged and need to be changed at a cost of 4ks. Anyone had this problem before? TIA.

  15. http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...084&DL=2008 ABS = anti blocking system? What's this anti blocking system? Is this system supposed to prevent people from blocking your car? The person who put up this ad must be clueless about technical terms, probably lazy as well. It takes less than 1 minute to go to google and type in "ABS Car" to find out the proper definition of ABS in the context of cars which is Anti-lock braking system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-lock_braking_system
  16. Hi All, I am on 4-pot BBK for 2mths plus. Over the past 2 weeks, whenever I brake normally at high speed around 90km/h, I feel a strong plusating vibration to the steering wheel. The mechanic says that's the ABS kicking in due to the pressure from the BBK. The same does not happen at normal speeds below 70km/h. Is this normal? Or is it my tyres that are not grippy enough? They are at 7000kms and 1yr old. How can I solve the issue? Thanks
  17. Hi All, Front Wheel Drive Front Disc Brake = ABS & Rear Drum - Nope Front & Rear Disc Brake = Some say All 4 do equip with ABS but some say Only Front ?? Anyone can help to verify ??

  19. Do you drive one? Some say it's irresponsible to driven ABSless car ...
  20. Good day to all, I am driving a 5 yr old Swift. 1.5Auto. The car is in stock condition, mileage about 90k plus. Recently, the ABS lamp lighted up on the dashboard. I stopped at the side of the road, off the engine and restart again. After I moved off for a while, the lamp goes off. I called Champion Motors and they asked me if I changed my battery recently. Yes it was changed about 4 months ago. They said it might be a computer problem and since there is no more warranty, it is $70+ for troubleshooting. I read online, and many others who have the ABS lighted seems to be having problems with the sensors and not the brake system itself. Sometimes, I can drive a whole trip without it lighted up until when I am about to off the engine after parking the car. It might be some wiring loose which triggered the lamp after going down from shopping centre carpark. I do not mind going to CM to troubleshoot, but they can only troubleshoot at the Pandan service centre. I told them it is difficult for me to explain the situation because I cannot confirm on the day I send the car in, the lamp will be lighted! Is there any other workshop (prefer in the East) that is able to read the error code from the ECU or diagnose the fault? Please feel free to PM me. My normal braking system still works, but I just want the ABS thing to be solved so I can have a peace of mind when driving the car. Thanks.
  21. My lancer ex has this warning lit at the console, beside chopper c&c is there anywhere reasonable priced workshop that can help me. Thank you
  22. tummy getting too big for comfort. Anyone got any good abs exercise to recommend? Read online that doing crunches dont really helps.
  23. Hi All I recently changed from Bridgestone RE001 to Dunlop Sport Maxx (not TT). This morning, roads all wet as was raining. I noticed dat with the dunlop, when i jam brake just a bit, the ABD kicks in quite easily. With my RE001, only once did my ABS kick in and that was in a really hard braking situation (in fron of with the 5 cars not so lucky and got into a chain collision, i escaped). Does this mean the dunlops not so good cos lose grip more easily triggering the ABS. Quite scary. All constructive info/opinions welcome. Thanks.
  24. Hi, any of you guys experienced the problem of the ABS light turning on sometimes after engine start up and then after a few more trip goes off again after the self check during engine start up? I am driving an Avante. It has happened to me afew times and wondering what could be the problems? ABS Sensor dirty? Any bros here experienced the same and had the problem resolved? Care to share your experience?
  25. Should I get it repaired or just ignore ot ditch the whole ABS thing. Cause mine is such an old car. Don't know how much it will cost to get the ABS up and running again. I am leaning toward ditching it cause I don't really need ABS and its just adding weight.
