  2. Does the army or civil defense actively look out for someone who AWOL from NS? Will they stop looking for the guy after a few weeks? When will they give up looking for AWOL Could it be the one in charge did not follow procudure and become slack and did not discharge his duty to pursue AWOL pwrsonnel actively? I ask because the internet scam guy was AWOL for 18months, as reported in the news. Singapore is small, surely it's not dofficult to track down someone within a few days, as long as he is still in Singapore right?

  4. July 7, 2008 I want to kill ex-girlfriend, and 5 people I hate: Awol NSman By Khushwant Singh and Jermyn Chow AWOL National Serviceman Dave Teo Ming told an army buddy, a pimp, that he had taken the rifle and bullets from camp to kill his ex-girlfriend. The 20-year-old also said he was going to use it in a robbery. Then, he told his platoon leader that he was going to use the rifle to kill five people whom he hated. 'Fortunately, nothing disastrous occurred but a deterrent sentence was necessary to deter like-minded offenders,' said Deputy Public Prosceutor Peter Koy in the High Court on Monday. Teo was jailed a total of nine years and two months and ordered to be caned 18 times. Teo had pleaded guilty to having the rifle and eight bullets with him in a public toilet in Cathay CineLeisure at 8pm on Sept 3 last year. He also admitted to carrying a 40cm-long knife on April 14 last year near his ex-girlfriend's home. In mitigation, his lawyer, Mr K. Mathialahan, asked the court to send Teo for reformative training in view of Teo's age and mental condition. The lawyer said that Teo was suffering from depression after his girlfriend of four years broke up with him in April last year. 'He was under a lot of emotional pressure and was very confused,' said Mr Mathialahan. Teo told his lawyer and a psychiatrist that he had no intentions of killing his girlfriend but wanted to use the rifle to threaten her to make up with him. Arguing that the court should give more weight to what Teo had said before his arrest, DPP Koy pointed out that people will say all sorts of things to earn leniency after they are caught. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_255420.html make an example... y not send him to mental horsepeter instead?
  5. Details of what AWOL army corporal Dave Teo Ming, 20, did after running away from Mandai Hill Camp on Sept 2 last year emerged in court on Tuesday when his friend was convicted of being found in his company Several hours after returning home with the SAR-21 assault rifle and several rounds of ammunition, Teo went to a Geylang hotel at about 2.25am on Sept 3. He called his friend and regular pimp, Ong Boon Jun, 22, and asked him to send over a Thai prostitute who Teo had hired several times before In the hotel room, Teo assembled the rifle and loaded it with eight live rounds, including three he had kept from an earlier live-firing exercise. He hid the weapon with some pillows. After the prostitute arrived, Teo asked Ong to meet him in the room as he was going out for a while and did not want to leave her alone. Ong came shortly after and discovered the rifle when he rested on the bed. He quickly shooed the Thai woman into the toilet when Teo showed him the weapon and said he had stolen it from his camp to commit robbery. Teo then dismantled the rifle and placed the parts in a bag. He left the hotel at about 4.15am. Teo was later arrested with the rifle and bullets at about 8pm in the men's toilet on the third floor of Orchard Cineleisure at Grange Road. Ong was caught at about 3.45am the next day at Cantonment complex. His lawyers, Mr Amolat Singh and Mr Low Hui Hui, said the odd-job worker first met Teo in a pub about a year ago, and he later became his regular client. Mr Singh said Ong was completely shocked on seeing the rifle and told Teo not to act rashly. He also feared that Teo might take revenge on him for betraying him, said the lawyer. 'This is an unfortunate case of the accused being at the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong person,' said Mr Singh. Ong will be sentenced next on Feb 25. He can be jailed for up to 10 years and given at least six strokes of the cane. Teo's next pre-trial hearing is set for March 6. He is charged with unlawfully carrying an assault rifle and possessing eight live ammunition rounds, as well as an unrelated offence of knife possession.
