Like Porsche and Lamborghini, Ferrari has the habit of releasing stripped out, track focused models based on their mid-engined supercars. Following the lineage of the F360 Challenge Stradale and the F430 Scuderia, the Prancing Horse has gone all 'Superleggera' on the 458 Italia. Sporting a different front facia, rear end body work, fins protruding before the rear axle and a more flush and slippery body to accommodate the active aerodynamic systems, the V8 equipped 458 Italia that has been given a power bump in a trimmer package of almost 1.3 tonnes. More power, lighter weight, active aerodynamics and a mid-engined V8

Ferrari 458 Italia kills man and crashes into another car!
RchLuvSlly posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Not so long ago, I tried to remind you to keep away from a country such as Russia. Thing is, the people - well mostly - seem really reckless there, especially while driving. It isn't that hard at all to find videos to prove this theory. Now, another incident - a tragic one too - has taken place in which I believe quite a number of people wonder how the country actually functions. While it may seem just like another car crash, this one is a lot more awful. In the video, we can see a Ferrari 458 Italia rear ending a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Judging from the fact that the rear bumper of the Mercedes was entirely ripped apart, I believe you have a good idea regarding the speed the Ferrari driver must have been driving at the moment. Amazingly, though, neither the Ferrari driver nor the Mercedes driver got seriously hurt. Yet, what was really tragic was the fact that the Italian supercar had actually knocked over a pedestrian, Nariman Gaynulov, 62, before crashing into the said Mercedes. As it turned out, the man driving the Ferrari 458 Italia is Larion Vuokila, 23, son of Alexander Zajonc, a Russian billionaire. Despite not getting seriously hurt, Vuokila was taken to the hospital soon after the incident. However, he tried to escape but has now been arrested by the police. I am not really sure what actually happened to Vuokila seconds before the crash. Was it that he tried to beat the red light? Or, was the crash triggered by Vuokila losing control of his supercar? Well, it seems like we-

Ferrari 458 Italia wrecked thanks to mobile car cleaner
RchLuvSlly posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Here in Singapore, we have plenty of automotive services such as valet parking and mobile car cleaning/detailing, among others. However, being convenient services as they may be, it seems that you really have to be very careful when using this kind of local services. Don't let yourself be caught off-guard because of the convenience. Well, you can't guarantee that your car will always be taken care of by someone experienced for example, when you feel like leaving the nuisance of finding a parking space to the valet guys or when you want your car to be cleaned/detailed. In fact, even if the guy at your service is experienced, there's still no guarantee that things won't go wrong. Recently, in Portsmouth, U.K., a customer's car was wrecked by a mobile car cleaner and, mind you, it was a Ferrari 458 Italia! Ironically, it wasn't the first time the customer used the cleaner's service. Well, the wet road on that day might be partially responsible for the crash. However, I wonder if the cleaner was trying to 'air dry' the car by going for a joyride around the corner and subsequently crashing it. Well, just so you know, it isn't a hard thing at all to lose traction of your car, especially if it's a supercar, coupled with the wet surface which is slippery. Perhaps the traction control of the red Ferrari was somehow switched off, too, at that time. Well, having had to suffer from such a super expensive incident, I'm not too sure if the customer will use the service of the mobile car cleaner in question ever again. And it seems that there are times when we need to use our own hands if we want something done right.- 1 comment

German tuners TC Concepts have laid their hands on the well received 458 Italia. The project has been dubbed 'General Consul' for unknown reasons. The latest tuning company to play with the 458 Italia, the General Consul kit starts with a Novitec body kit adding a front and rear spoiler, side skirts, front fender vents among other extras. The Novitec kit also increases the output to 609bhp. TC Concepts has basically darkened out the rear lamps and colour-keyed he prancing horse emblems. The car is mainly finished in a bumblebee friendly yellow and black which also continues in the cabin. Throw in a couple of ComfortDelgro logos and it will blend in well with the local cab population. The extended carbon front flaps looks like the 458 has been given a thin moustache and from reminds me of the Joker's scars from The Dark Knight. Like the 'yellow ring' they have added to the rims and the black as night emblem on a yellow background just looks sinister. Looks like a car fit for the Yellow Lanterns then. They are after all fuelled by fear.

[extract] Ferrari is recalling some V8 powered Ferrari 458 Italia and Ferrari California cars worldwide. It seems the recalled cars had their engines built with a slightly faulty crankshaft which may cause engine failure in the affected cars. Now unlike bread and butter cars, a Ferrari's engine may cost a kidney or two and even people who could afford a Ferrari may weep at the cost of an engine rebuild. While this s a global recall, it isn't as wide spread as you may think

A victim of wheel madness - Graf Weckerle's Ferrari 458 Italia
Rigval posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
[extract] Got a Ferrari 458 Italia and hate the way the rims look? No, I don't think so. This is because the Italia is one of the nicest looking V8 Ferraris that we have seen in recent years. It's rims included. But not to some people, specifically German tuning firm Graf Weckerle and their Ferrari 458 Italia demo car with Graf Weckerle- 2 comments

Before clicking to read further, would you like to make a guess what this piece of crumpled metal lump used to be? Aside from the alloy wheels, it's hard to imagine by looking at these pictures that the heap of crumpled metal was once a Ferrari 458 Italia. Little is known about the incident other than it reportedly took place somewhere in France after the supercar's V8 engine caught on fire. If true, it is not the first time that this has happened as another 458 Italia went up in flames earlier this month in France. Perhaps insurance companies may start revising the premium for insuring these supercars!

The Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli is a Ferrari only racing series comprising of F430s, 360s, F355s and 348s. It will now have another Ferrari added to this list; the 458 Challenge. This new race car was revealed during the annual dealer meeting held recently and will join the other Ferraris on the grid in 2011. The photograph above is the one and only official picture released by Ferrari at the moment. The 458 Challenge race car will be equipped with the same engine, producing the same amount of power (562bhp at 9,000rpm) as the road going version. But we all know that horsepower alone does not make a race car. The Challenge will be faster from revised gear ratios and a recalibrated 458 Italia flappy pedal gearbox, a lighter (thinner body panels, a more stripped out with greater use of carbon fiber and lexan replacing the glass) chassis and the usual uprated suspension setup. The suspension will have stiffer springs (as well as a drop of 30mm in ride height), single rate shock absorbers, 19inch lightweight racing alloy wheels and wider Pirelli slick tires. Brakes are massive CCM2 Brembos as used in the track only 599XX and it will also get the E-Diff electronic differential and F1-Trac traction control systems which were never used in Challenge versions of the F430 even though road going versions used them. All of the modifications enable the 458 Challenge to corner faster than the road going car which has similar power output. It will lap Ferrari's Fioriano test circuit in 1minute 16.5seconds. Two whole seconds faster than the F430 Challenge. The car is measured to have generated a dizzying 1.6g of cornering force. Somehow the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli may be even more lopsided with the inclusion of the 458 Challenge. In fact when the 360 Challenge car was raced in the series, Ferrari allowed the earlier 348s and F355 to run GT rear wings which increased aerodynamic efficiency, particularly rear downforce, in the earlier Ferraris. I wonder whether more changes would be allowed for the earlier cars as the 458 Challenge seems like a technological tour-de-force compared to the cars mentioned above.

Ferrari's are usually known for their hardcore, mind blowing supercars which make conventional journey's a theatrical treat with its beautiful contours on the exterior and the spine tingling scream of the engine. However, the more understated cars or Gran Tourers I should say, in the Ferrari stable, are set to receive a little more attention... Marques like the 599 and the Scaglietti or the old Superamerica or even the gorgeous Daytona have been dearly missed and Ferrari's main man, Luca di Montezemolo talked about how Ferrari will be showcasing an "open 599" and the Pebble Beach Concours in August. He added that the new roadster will have a "very romantic name". That will definitely please the Ferrari fans who love their Gran Tourers. They will be anticipating something like the 575 Superamerica with its electric folding roof to cruise down the highways along beaches.. or something. The bad news is that he also announced that there will not be a 458 Scuderia unlike the F430 version which sold very well because of its hardcore, F1 like technology. According to Mr Luca, there will be no point in creating a car (the 458 Scuderia) when there isn't a sufficient amount of new technology to be placed in the new car. Because if one were to be produced, it'll just be another lightweight 458 with nothing new in it and maybe just a standard 458 without carpets and a radio. Absolutely pointless and bad for Ferrari's branding. It shows that Ferrari builds cars to their maximum potential and not just to satisfy their customers. They really want to make a great car. And of course, to meet the emission standards of today, most of Ferrari's new engines will be gearing up towards the HY-KERS concept which increases efficiency without losing performance. And thats what F1 is all about. To push the boundaries of technology and then implement them into road-going cars which will benefit not just the driver on the podium, but the average man with a few wads of extra cash in his back pocket. Well done Ferrari!

We're gearing up for the release of Transformers 3, even though it won't be hitting the big screen until July 1, 2011. And while the second installment of the Transformers series didn't exactly thrill us with its storyline, there's no arguing that the awesome graphics made for a pretty decent summer blockbuster. But now, there's a new reason to get excited. At a Ferrari charity event this week, director Micheal Bay confirmed that the sexy, pulse-quickening 458 Italia will join the cast of Autobots. If I have not mistaken, this is the first time a non-American car joins the rank of the heroic autobots. Now, I am fantasizing the image of the sexy Megan Fox couching over the bonnet of the equally tantalizing Italia
