You are forgiven if you think I have mistaken a Kia for BMW. Honestly, this new Gran Coupé is one of the better looking BMW in recent years. The 3 Series had been the entry-level BMW sedan for decades before the 2 Series Gran Coupe arrived in 2019. The luxury brand was criticized for cheapening out by introducing a compact sedan on a front-wheel-drive platform. Despite the controversy, the formula must’ve worked commercially. At the end of the business day, that’s all that really matters. As such, the “F44” gets a direct successor. Meet the new “F74.” The not-so-compact model now measures 4,546 mm (+20 mm) in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,445 mm (+25 mm) in height. It carries over the wheelbase of its predecessor, so the distance between the axles remains at 2,670 mm. While the exterior is more of a facelift aka Life Cycle Impulse, the cabin has been overhauled. The 2 Series Gran Coupe was one of the few remaining models with the old iDrive setup and plenty of physical buttons. Its replacement embraces minimalism with a dual-screen layout and limited switchgear. Much like in the 1 Series, X1, X2, and 2 Series Active Tourer, the rotary knob is sadly gone. The simplified dashboard accommodates a 10.25-inch driver’s display and a 10.7-inch touchscreen. If the interior looks instantly familiar, it’s because the latest 1 Series is almost identical on the inside. Just like many recent BMWs and MINIs, the cabin completely does away with leather. This Veganza upholstery can be combined with Alcantara if you go for the M Sport Package or the hot M235. The base model in Europe has a three-cylinder, 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 154 HP (115 KW) and 240 Nm of torque. Because it employs a mild-hybrid setup, total output is slightly higher, at 168 HP (125 KW) and 280 Nm. The 2025 BMW 220 Gran Coupe takes 7.9 seconds to reach 100 km/h and tops out at 230 km/h. (but unlikely we will get it here). For Americans, they will get a 228 xDrive that sends 241 HP and 400 Nm to both axles. It’s enough muscle for a 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) run in 5.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 209 km/h. With performance tires, the top speed increases to 250 km/h. The M235 has a larger four-cylinder engine on both sides of the pond. However, the 2.0-liter unit is downgraded in Europe, therefore echoing the other M Performance compact cars. On the Old Continent, you’ll have to make do with 296 HP (221 KW) whereas Americans get 312 HP (233 KW). Both flavors of the sporty sedan have 400 Nm on tap. In European guise, the M235 needs 4.9 seconds to reach 100 km/h. Its American cousin takes 4.7 seconds to hit the same speed. Both max out at 250 km/h (electronically controlled). Regardless of engine and continent, all variants of the 2 Series Gran Coupe are exclusively available with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. The “F74” marks the end of the six-speed manual, which BMW had offered in Europe on the lesser-powered versions. Consequently, yet another model with a stick shift bites the dust. Although it debuts in the same week as the 2024 Paris Motor Show, the new 2 Gran Coupe isn’t in France’s capital these days. Deliveries to buyers won’t kick off until March 2025, after production starts in Leipzig. BMW estimates the US, Germany, the UK, Japan, and Australia will be the largest markets. For China, there are plans to launch a long-wheelbase model early next year as the “F78.” The newcomer will replace the 1 Series Sedan (“F52”) discontinued last year.

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has been conceived as a global offering that constitutes an attractive enrichment, especially for markets in which car buyers show a strong affinity for notchbacks. As an exclusive alternative to the classic saloon, the four-door coupe addresses all target groups that prefer a sophisticated design and a self-assured look in the compact segment as well. Will be officially unveiled on 8 July, but you get to see it first here in MCF. Photos above are for M240i. @ER-3682, from what I read, it would still be offered in RWD. Stay tuned for more info.

Three very different men of different ages decide on their favourite BMWs to suit their backgrounds and lifestyles. What are the BMWs that they’ve picked BMW’s ‘Power of Choice’ strategy offers customers the opportunity to choose the powertrain of their choice, from petrol-powered BMWs to plug-in hybrid or fully electric ones. For those who still prefer internal combustion engines, BMW’s wide range of models means that we get to pick the best car to suit our needs. While the more traditional choices include the 3 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series, you now have BMWs in all shapes and sizes. These include hatchbacks, coupes, MPVs and SUVs. But what would be a great start to the BMW range? I took my two colleagues to find out. And as cliché as it sounds, it was as easy as one, two, and three. The 1 Series – Young and professional In the working world, image is almost everything. And in my late 20s, there are many around me who want an identifiable badge, and they look at the BMW 1 Series for such inspiration. After all, being the 1 Series, it is the introduction to the world of BMW. It’s a hatchback, so it’ll appeal to those looking for an easier car to move around town. But for me, it isn’t about the badge. It is about having a car that’s pretty complete in features and driving quality. And the 1 Series delivers. It has safety assistance features such as Lane Keeping Assistant and Blind Spot Detection, and even added connectivity features such as wireless charging and wireless Apple CarPlay. And with its turbocharged 1.5-litre engine offering ample power along with a well-tuned chassis, it is a joyous drive when you throw some bendy bits of road at it. Mind you, this is the 116i variant of the BMW 1 Series, making it a Category A COE car. That means more savings, and yet, it still delivers a complete package. The 2 Series – Style and substance But hatchbacks aren’t for everyone. In Singapore, at least, sedans are still the traditional choice. And Desmond, now in his early 30s, is a stylish sort of man. But in a professional setting, having a car that’s a little too quirky isn’t exactly what he needs. What fits his needs, then? It is the 2 Series Gran Coupe. It is a practical four-door car, with a sloping, coupe-like silhouette. There’s style, substance, and big boot(y) practicality to the mix. What’s not to like? And talking about that boot, it is 430 litres big - more than enough hauling capacity for a family. That is of course if Desmond ever plans to build a family. But the 2 Series Gran Coupe effectively offers what’s available with the 1 Series and more. You get the good road manners and plenty of safety and infotainment features to justify its price tag. And in this 218i trim, you also get a higher dose of power, at 138hp and 220Nm of torque from its 1.5-litre turbo lump. And not to forget the generous dose of style the 2 Series Gran Coupe offers on the road. For a stylish man like Desmond, it is the perfect fit. The 3 Series – Family professional The 3 Series has been the staple in the BMW range for over seven generations, making it the oldest name amongst the other two. And currently, it is one of the best executive sedans out there. The 3 Series is not all about suits and ties. We’ll all look good in a 3 Series, but it does offer that stately age after being in the business for so long. Thus, for someone like Julian, a family man of two kids, you just cannot go wrong with the 3 Series. When the family is involved, comfort tends to be one of the priorities. As for ticking the right boxes, the 3 Series is now bigger, so there’s plenty of room to spare. While all three cars have air-con vents at the back, the one in the 3 Series has climate control. This allows Julian’s passengers to adjust the temperature to their liking. Which is quite a big deal, because this is the 318i – the introductory variant to the 3 Series here in Singapore. And with it comes a slew of standard features for Julian to enjoy. From BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant, which recognises voice commands, and a Reversing Assistant that takes control of the steering to trace the last 50 metres travelled, to the Digital Key, enabling Julian to set up his car key on a compatible iPhone and share it with up to five friends. Not to forget wireless features comprising charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto - the whole nine yards. And when you want to have some fun behind the wheel, that taut and agile chassis we’ve all known the 3 Series offers is still there. Does the complete package exist? Julian sure thinks so! Easy as One, Two, Three As you can see, the 1 Series, 2 Series and 3 Series are perfect choices for us in the Editorial team. All three cars are comprehensively packed with the latest features and equipment, comfortable to ride in and practical for couples or families. But more importantly, when it comes to dynamic driving abilities, you can bet these BMWs will put a smile on your face, every single time. What more can you ask for in a car that can proficiently serve as a means of transport and deliver spirited driving in spades? Choosing your first BMW? TL:DR – A BMW 2 Series convertible goes over a small, unassuming pothole/manhole that causes its rear end to flip up, lose some parts from its undercarriage and swerve into another lane. It's incredible how a small pothole/manhole can cause thousands of dollar's worth of damage to a car. Here's an example recorded on a video forwarded many times on WhatsApp groups. From the footage, we know that this incident happened on 11th April 2021, Sunday around 5pm. As to where this is, I have a feeling it might be somewhere around Woodlands. But, if you have any idea, do let me know, and I'll update the article accordingly to warn fellow road users where to avoid. Update: Thank you everyone who identified the location. It's in Yishun. Poor BMW If you hit the pause button upon the point of impact, you'll notice that bits and pieces fall out from the undercarriage of the 2 Series. That’s as unlucky as this guy I reckon those parts are not going to be cheap to replace or repair. The pothole/manhole This image circulated together with the video. I'm assuming the cam car driver got out of the car and snapped a photo of the pothole/manhole.

Drunk BMW driver crashes into sidewalk at Little India
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Drink-driving is never good and this is just another one of many unnecessary accidents that are caused by driving after being intoxicated with alcohol. As seen on ROADS.sg, this BMW 2 Series Grand Tourer lost control of his car and crashed into the sidewalk along Serangoon Road and Rowell Road junction on 29 Dec 2020 at 17.06 pm. Unfortunately a couple of pedestrians were hurt but we don't know the exact details. Thankfully, the accident did not take anyone's life. Naturally, netizens showed the BMW driver no mercy... Watch the full video here! We especially like the fast manoeuvre the man in the dark blue polo had to pull to get away from the crash! -
With a wide range of body styles, BMW's 2 Series family has a practical choice suitable for every driver There was a time, maybe 20 years ago, when car nomenclature was simple and straightforward. Before the rapid introduction of new model ranges, parsing a BMW was pretty clear-cut – the 3 Series was the compact model, the 5 Series the mid-sized model and the 7 Series the large flagship sedan. Quite easy, no? Nowadays, it's not quite so simple anymore. BMW's core model range now spans eight numerical designations, as well as seven X designations for its Sports Activity Vehicles (BMW’s terminology for its SUVs). And, with multiple body styles across the various model series, it can be a little complicated to immediately wrap your head around it. Take the brand's 2 Series lineup for example. It is positioned as a practical choice for aspiring buyers. However, a quick look across the range reveals that there are many different body styles that will cater to a wide range of buyers who all have different needs. Sleek sensation - 2 Series Coupe When people think of the 2 Series, this is probably the compact and stylish model that usually springs to mind – the 2 Series Coupe. With its sleek sheet metal and squat presence, the 2 Series Coupe certainly distinguishes itself from the crowd. Sheathed within the stylish exterior is a cabin that delivers ample equipment and everyday luxury. Of course, the 2 Series Coupe also impresses with its on-road dynamism, with its short wheelbase making for a sharp and direct drive packed with enthusiasm and fun. Airy amenity - 2 Series Convertible Those seeking an open-top experience will surely be drawn to the 2 Series Convertible. Yes, it is rather similar to the Coupe in terms of size, design and the mechanical bits, but the experience is completely different. Being able to take the roof off has much to do with that. It delivers a softer, more relaxed experience that implores you to bask in the joy of open-top driving, allowing you to take in the fresh breeze whipping through your hair. With the Convertible, you're sure to attract looks everywhere you go. Elegant expression - 2 Series Gran Coupe For those in the market for something with a slightly more bold, modern and expressive feel, the newly launched 2 Series Gran Coupe certainly fits the bill. As the most accessible four-door BMW coupe, the Gran Coupe finds a delightful balance between style, practicality and dynamic capability. Of course, being the newest model, it also delivers the latest in technology, including equipment like the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and the most advanced driver assistance systems. Practical prowess: 2 Series Active Tourer/Gran Tourer With the five-seat Active Tourer and seven-seat Gran Tourer, the 2 Series also demonstrates the ample flexibility of the platform, with these two models offering maximum utility and space for drivers. Clearly designed with families in mind, the MPV offerings prioritise cabin space, daily comfort and overall utility without sacrificing qualities such as style and refinement. Resolute range – 2 Series Active Tourer with eDrive BMW's plug-in hybrid technology also features within the 2 Series lineup, in the form of the BMW 225xe Active Tourer. The car combines the practicality and utility of the 2 Series Active Tourer with the increased fuel economy and lower running cost afforded by the additional eDrive system. Additionally, the eDrive motor also has the benefit of providing additional straight line oomph if you need it, and also lets you drive in pure electric mode. Exhilarating excitement - M2 While the rest of the 2 Series range has leaned towards offering practicality, accessibility and stylishness, there's also something for the more thrill-seeking drivers among us. Delivering the ultimate in performance, dynamism and excitement, the M2 model range encapsulates the best that BMW M Gmbh has to offer. The latest, most potent M2 offering is the M2 CS, which will be launched in Singapore sometime this year. With it, BMW M delivers the most powerful, razor sharp driving experience available within the 2 Series model range. Copious choice The 2 Series lineup boasts a wide range of models, each with its own unique personality and distinct ability. And, with a total of six unique styles within just the 2 Series model portfolio, it's clear that BMW understands the importance of catering to the diversity among its buyers. There’s practically a 2 Series of every body (type) for everybody, regardless of age or lifestyle.

Need a premium hatch with good driving dynamics? Chances are you would have bought a BMW 1 Series F20/F21 hatchback. But chances are you also wish it could have a prettier face. Fret not, German aftermarket specialist, Individual Cars Consulting GmbH & Co. KG, has come up with a conversion package that will allow you to swap the 1 Series’s face with the new 2 Series coupe’s face. Costing less than 3,000€ (S$5,222), only the headlights, the front apron including the kidney grille and some other smaller parts under the bonnet need to be replaced for the conversion. Check out their completed demo car which is actually a M135i 3-door hatchback. Even the basic model without the M Sport bumpers looks good!
