  1. New ST badged hot Ford supermini will appear early in the eighth generation car's lifespan, sporting a turbocharged three-cylinder engine Fast Ford fans won’t have to wait long after the arrival of the new eighth-generation Fiesta to wait for a hot version – a new Ford Fiesta ST has been revealed, and it will go on sale in Britain early in 2018. It took Ford five long years to launch the current ST after the seventh-generation version of its supermini made its debut in 2008. This time round, we’ve got nearly all of the details on the firm’s next hot hatch before the basic Fiesta has gone on sale. The new Fiesta ST broke cover in March at the Geneva Motor Show, and in terms of styling, Ford has gone evolutionary with the eighth-generation Fiesta. However big changes are promised in the cabin, and for the new ST, the recipe under the bonnet will be all-new. With this new Fiesta ST, the biggest news is the shift to a new engine configuration – the hot Fiesta now uses a downsized three-cylinder turbo motor, but Ford claims it produces more power and more torque. The 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo is out, replaced by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo. Ford claims the new motor produces 197bhp – 17bhp up on the output of the motor in the outgoing Fiesta ST, but equal to its figure on ‘overboost’. Gains in peak torque are clear cut, the figure swelling from 240Nm to 290Nm. In terms of performance, Ford claims the new ST will crack 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds, two tenths of a second faster than the outgoing car and on par with the limited run ST200 model. Top speed has not yet been revealed, but above and around 140mph seems a safe bet. Naturally, the downsized motor will be cleaner and more efficient than the outgoing four-cylinder. Ford reckons CO2 emissions for the new model will tumble from 138g/km to 114g/km, and with cylinder de-activation technology on-board, fuel-economy should improve too. The eighth-generation Fiesta is still based on Ford’s global B-car platform, but on top of the tweaks received by the standard car to improve grip, plus the new model’s wider track, the ST’s chassis has been further tuned by Ford Performance. Like on the previous generation car, a torque-vectoring unit can step in to reduce understeer by braking the inside front wheel in corners, and the new Fiesta ST comes with three selectable driving modes – Normal, Sport and Track – altering traction control, throttle response, power steering and exhaust valve settings.
  2. The hot hatch sector isn’t short of competition, with the Peugeot 208 GTi by Peugeot Sport and the new Toyota Yaris GRMN ramping up the level of focus on offer in this pocket rocket class – which means Ford has its work cut out with the new Fiesta ST. Chief among the engineering advances to achieve the first part of the above is the car’s new 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine. It kicks out 197bhp and 290Nm of torque (with an overboost feature to deliver a 20Nm hit like on the past ST) and with an optional Quaife limited-slip differential to help improve traction, and launch control as part of the Performance Pack, it’s good for 0-100kmph in 6.5 seconds. The move to a three-pot caused a stir, but the engine is said to be strong, as according to some sources, pulling sweetly from low down with a broad spread of torque and revving hard. However, where the old 4-cylinder car used to bark higher up, this 3-cylinder feels like it’s given its best by 5,750rpm. It makes a gruff note, enhanced for the first time in an ST by some electronic trickery. This ramps up depending which of the three driving modes you have selected (another first), which range from Normal to Sport and Track. In the latter two settings the Electronic Sound Enhancement is supported by an active exhaust valve that introduces some overtly sporting pops when you lift off the gas. You have to drive this car and manage many things, which should be celebrated compared with some of its more anodyne, one-dimensional rivals. This broadening of the ST’s range is impressive and definitely a welcome step, but it hasn’t come at the expense of the Fiesta’s head-banger character. Performance wise, it feels even more serious. It’s available in three- and five-door body styles, while the 292-litre boot is unchanged over the standard Fiesta, so it covers the practicality bases a compact hot hatch should – another of which is efficiency. It is unclear if this model will make it to our shores, and even if it does, there may be limited units for sale.
  3. Detroit - Nearly 7,000 Fiesta and Focus owners are suing Ford Motor Co. over defective PowerShift transmissions in some small cars, a problem that has plagued the automaker for years. The suit claims that 2012-16 Focus and 2011-16 Fiesta sedans come with faulty dual-clutch transmissions prone to "shuddering, slipping, bucking, jerking, hesitation while changing gears, premature internal wear, delays in downshifting and, in some cases, sudden or delayed acceleration." Stern Law PLLC filed the mass action lawsuit on April 20 with the Wayne County Circuit Court on behalf of the affected owners. "Ford must be held accountable for design and manufacturing defects of the PowerShift transmission that has compromised the safety of the vehicles and cost owners significant loss in vehicle value, reliable transportation and time," Ken Stern, founder and principal of Stern Law PLLC, said in a statement. Plaintiffs named in the lawsuit are not seeking one large, single payment for damages, according to a spokeswoman for Stern Law. Each client's award would be customized based on the client's damages, she said. A Ford spokesperson said the company can't comment on pending litigation but said "Ford is committed to providing our customers with top-quality vehicles." On Jan. 1, 2011, Ford issued a technical service bulletin to dealers that noted the Fiesta's PowerShift transmission could suffer "a loss of power, hesitation, surge, or lack of throttle response while driving." The lawsuit says Ford has issued more than 20 technical service bulletins relating to the affected models, but has been unable to find a "consistently reliable repair." In 2014, the automaker extended the powertrain warranty from five years/60,000 miles to seven years/100,000 miles to help cover the problems. This is not the first lawsuit related to the transmissions. In 2012, the Los Angeles-based law firm Capstone Partners APC filed the first of three lawsuits in a U.S. District Court on behalf of owners who claimed their vehicles suffered repeated breakdowns. Last month, the parties settled, according to Capstone Partners APC's website.
  4. Will be officially launching this weekend! To avoid the potential crowd, I went down to RM today to look at the real thing. 2 models available; 1.4A 5-dr & 1.4A 3-dr The design is indeed sleek , both interior & exterior. Leather. 15" alloy, Durashift 4 speed w manual override. Surprise that it is made in Germany! Slightly disappointed that the specs brought in is on the more scale down side compare to those in Europe. - 2 airbags only - No fog light; not even as optional - No push start button - Fewer colors options that those available in the UK site Reason given was to keep price competitive. Drive & handling is comparable to the Focus, steering obviously much lighter since is electric power assist. Well, since i'm no car critic, let's wait for those expert to provide their comments which should be out pretty soon. Is definetly one that i'm seriously considering.
  5. The ecoboost version finally hit our shores. This version looks more like a facelift as it's still using the same chassis. The front grille has that Aston Martin look and it does take sometime to get used to. But it's the 1.0l turbo ecoboost engine that is the most interesting part of the addition. Although it's 100ps but with a torque of 170nm, it's sure to have a decent pickup and drivability. The fc is about 20kml but I'd be happy if it can get 18kml in local roads. But I'm curious why they are bringing in the 100ps version instead of the 125ps version of the engine? Both are still 1.0l and both will still be cat A. The 125ps is definitely more drivable and will give the golf and polo a run of their money! Think it's around 110k now and hope se will throw in some discount. Anyone eyeing this?
  6. Ford of Europe has unveiled the rest of the subcompact line-up. Four trim levels were shown, including the Active, and it further proves that no car is safe from being turned into a crossover. Though no specifics were given on whether it would have a unique suspension or drivetrain, some obvious design differences can be seen. It gets the requisite black plastic fender flares, side skirts, and bumper trim. The side skirts and bumpers also get skid plate-inspired metal-look trim as well. The Active also gets slightly raised roof rails. Ford did not provide many mechanical details. In Europe, it will be available with both petrol and diesel engines with 5- and 6-speed transmissions, and Fiestas will now feature rear disc brakes across the line. One engine Ford did highlight is the 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder. Inside, the Fiesta now offers a "floating" 8-inch touchscreen display. During the reveal, a Ford representative bragged about how it improves ergonomics and simplifies the interior by removing 20 buttons. Not sure if that's a good thing based on past experiences with touchscreen-heavy interfaces. No availability or pricing was revealed. It is also unclear when this model will be arriving Singapore.
  7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-UEF6OJOT4The eighth installment of Block's Gymkhana series of videos is scheduled to drop when the clock strikes midnight on February 29th on the Ford Performance YouTube channel. The star of the show will be the blacked-out Fiesta you see in the teaser video above. In fact, it's rather colorful, depending on how the light hits it. Block's latest Gymkhana livery takes on a life of its own due to its directionally reflective color scheme. Besides the new color, one other significant piece of news is that Block's rallys-spec Fiesta will be wearing a fresh set of tires from Toyo. Or, more accurately, it'll be wearing several fresh sets of tires, considering how much rubber will surely be going up in smoke. Take a look at the video above and let us know what you think of Block's latest livery.
  8. If you are a car nut, you probably would recognise Ken Block's Ford Fiesta rally car. His all-wheel drive weapon is now up for sale for a cool S$505,000. This particular car has been said to race in numerous rallycross races and rally events including winning the 2015 Rally of Whangarei. Of course, this car has been featured in a couple of his famous Gymkhana videos too. The car is claimed to be "ready to start its next rally" and is fitted with a 34 mm air restrictor that limits power from the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. In current spec, it has 350bhp but with the air restrictor removed, the owner can expect around 600bhp and 900Nm of torque. Power is transferred to the wheels via a Sadev all-wheel drive system and a sequential gearbox.
  9. Recently, I blogged on two reviews involving the Ford Fiesta ST and Peugeot 208 GTI. Now, Auto Express U.K. made a triple-threat match by pitting the Fiesta ST and 208 GTI against Renault Clio RS. In the previous reviews, the Fiesta ST was clearly preferred over its French rival. Can the American pocket rocket do it again? Like the other two members in this group test, the Clio RS is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine which is good for 200bhp and 240Nm of torque. However, it is the only car here with a twin-clutch six-speed automatic transmission. The Clio RS also takes the podium for being the priciest among the trio. Auto Express drives the cars through hundreds of miles over a range of routes ranging from motorways to towns to pick a winner. The Clio is the best in the drag race while the Fiesta is the fastest round the track.
  10. Recently, Mat Watson of Carbuyer U.K. got to review the Peugeot 208 GTI and Ford Fiesta ST on separate occasions. Both hot hatches were launched within two weeks apart. Both cars share more similarities than just their launch dates. The Fiesta ST and 208 GTI are both powered by 1.6-litre turbocharged engines mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The GTI churns out 197bhp with a century sprint timing of 6.7 seconds while the ST produces 200bhp and goes from 0 to 100km/h in 6.9 seconds. Although the ST is slower, it certainly trashes the GTI in terms of hot hatch looks with its "Aston Martin" grille. And from Mat's expression during both reviews, you can guess which one he prefers. The GTI and ST earned a rating of 4.0/5.0 and 4.8/5.0 respectively at the end of the reviews. Ford Fiesta ST Peugeot 208 GTI
  11. At the recent 2012 Paris Motor Show, Ford showed the world the face-lifted Fiesta hatchback. Now, the blue oval brand revealed its sedan cousin at the 2012 Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil. Like the hatchback version, the Fiesta sedan sports an Aston Martin-inspired grille. The revised car has narrower headlights and newly styled taillights. Although no interior images were released but one can expect changes made to the instrument cluster, steering wheel and door panels for the 2013 Fiesta hatchback to feature in the sedan version as well. Detail regarding the sedan
  12. Ford's sedan version for the ASEAN market of best-selling Fiesta will make its debut at the Bangkok Motor Show (26March - 6 April 2010) and will go on sale in Thailand by August 2010. Ford has already sold more than half a million examples of the Fiesta hatchback worldwide and hopes to increase its share of the market in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region with this sedan version. It will be built at the joint Ford-Mazda factory in Rayong, Thailand. This factory also produces the Fiesta's chassis sharing partner, the Mazda 2 hatchback and sedan for the region (with the exception of Singapore which gets its 2 from Japan). The Thai flavoured Fiesta will be produced in both five and four-door formats, with exports planned for Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. For the Thai market the four-door Fiesta is offered with a choice of 1.4- or 1.6-litre petrol engines, both of which can operate on E20 bio-ethanol fuel. Buyers can choose between a manual or the new generation six-speed 'Powershift' (DSG type) automatic transmission. The bigger engine is the latest 120 ps Duratec engine with twin variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) and is mated to the 6-speed dual-clutch Powershift transmission. The smaller engine, with an output of 96 ps, will have a 5-speed manual transmission. Remote keyless entry is standard in all versions of the new four-door model, while Ford claims that Bluetooth, USB and iPod connectivity, as well as a voice control system are all unique in the segment. We do not know whether this system standard across the range or limited to the higher specified cars. As for the looks, looks like a slightly heavier styled Mazda 2 with some angles looking better than others. It is a decent looking sedan derived from a hatchback. Unlike some not so successful hatch to sedan designs (the previous Honda City or current Nissan Latio sedan as examples). The Ford dealership in Malaysia has reported that they will sell the Fiesta sedan (and hatchback) by the middle of 2010 but no actual launch date has been set as yet. As for Singapore, there is no news as to whether the Thailand built sedan will be sold in the Lion City. The Fiesta currently on sale is the 1.4liter hatchback version imported from Germany. So would a sedan version be accepted by the market if it came from Thailand?

    Ford Fiesta sedan

Ford is eyeing a share of the B-segment market in Singapore with the upcoming Ford Fiesta sedan. The US automaker actually staged the global reveal of its all-new Fiesta sedan at the 2008 Guangzhou Auto Show, a year after its cousin, the Mazda 2 saloon was launched. The Singapore-bound Fiesta will be sourced from Ford's joint venture production plant with Mazda in Thailand. The boot of the Fiesta sedan appears a bit dumpy, which is a far cry from its sleek frontal facia. The Mazda 2 sedan has a more proportionate rear treatment, complemented by sleek looking lamp combination. However, all is not lost for the the Fiesta. The dashboard mimics the futuristic layout of its hatchback version, which is quite refreshing as compared to the mundane layout of the Vios or City. The interior plastic parts of the Vios/City feels rather hard and let's hope that the Fiesta sedan will be furnished by higher quality materials. I do not have the details of the drivetrain for the Thailand-built Fiesta at the moment but I am secretly hoping to see the 1.6L Ti-VCT on the offer list, like the US market.
  14. Ford is celebrating 21 years as an official UEFA Champions League partner and this year marked the company's largest ever presence at the four-day UEFA Champions Festival. Ford made its presence felt with the new Kuga, Fiesta ST and special guest driver - Ken Block. The new Ford Kuga was featured heavily in the build-up to the UEFA Champions League Finals appearing on match-day hoardings in stadiums around Europe and leading Ford's 'Drive to Wembley' competition. Drive to Wembley was the largest ever ticket giveaway for a UEFA Champions League Final that saw 360 winners from 27 countries around Europe attending the match between FC Bayern Munich and BV Borussia Dortmund. Fans at festival experienced the new Ford Kuga with test drives that highlight Ford

  16. [extract] To tell you the truth, the American automaker Ford actually planned to market the Ford Fiesta facelift in December last year. However, as it turned out, it was but too much an ambition as the model actually made its debut one month after in the hometown of panda, China. Built by Ford in collaboration with the Chinese Chang

    Rally inspired Fiesta

Ford introduced its rally dedicated Fiesta RS WRC at the Paris Auto Show. Built around a 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the Fiesta RS WRC likely milks something north of 400 horsepower from its tiny displacement, though Ford hasn't announced the official output specs. The jump to the smaller engine is driven by the WRC's adoption of Super 2000 rules for 2011, which mandates a maximum displacement of 1.6 liters. Design by Ford of Europe with help from rally partner M-Sport, the Fiesta RS WRC is based on the Fiesta S2000 rally car that won the Monte Carlo Rally. French engine tuner Pipo Moteur has also pitched in to help maximize the power from the small mill. Testing for the new car begins on gravel in Spain next week, though it has already completed nearly 2,000 miles of testing during development in the U.K. and France. Ford WRC factory drivers Jari-Matti Latvala and Mikko Hirvonen will be behind the wheel of the test vehicles. The Ford RS WRC will have its virgin rally at Sweden come 10 to 13th February 2011.
  18. [extract] Four years after the Fiesta was launched, Ford has given the supermini a facelift for the 2013 model year. It gains a new face that incorporates a prominent grille which is similar to the new Fusion
  19. Ford Fiesta RS WRC takes 1-2-3 at Rally Sweden! "Mikko Hirvonen has won Rally Sweden for the second time in his Ford Fiesta RS WRC following a thrilling finish to the first event of the new season. The Finn beat Mads Ostberg in the final overall standings by 6.5s with Jari-Matti Larvala completing a Ford podium lockout."
  20. The newest generation of the Ford Fiesta has become Europe's best-selling car, pushing the Volkswagen Golf into second place for both March 2010 and year-to-date sales according to the latest figures from JATO Dynamics, an automotive business intelligence company. Ford sold 68,630 Fiestas in March 2010, 11,784 more than the Golf. It represents a 25.8% increase in sales over March 2009. In the first quarter of the year (January-March), Europeans bought 140,496 Ford Fiestas (+21.7%) as compared to 135,048 VW Golfs (+10.4%). Beyond the Fiesta and Golf, small cars dominated the list with the best selling models in Europe in first quarter of 2010. In addition to securing top spot with the Fiesta, Ford also managed to finish first in the March brand chart, with 1,818 sales more than Volkswagen. The American brand also closed up the year-to-date gap with its German rival by posting a 9.9% increase in sales volume to 348,780 units. It is a indeed a time for champagne popping for Ford. Can Ford replicate the sales success here in Southeast Asia? I believe it is possible with Ford's new manufacturing facility in Thailand which hopefully will drive production cost and offer value for money products for the consumers. In addition, Ford is introducing some interesting technology for Asia. For example, our neighbour in the North is getting a version of the Fiesta fitted with the 1.6L TI-VCT engine, mated to a 6 speed powershift gearbox.
  21. Some of you guys may have known that I have been cross shopping for my next car, to be more precise, between the Ford Fiesta & the Lamborghini Gallardo. Thanks god for this great comparison video, now I am sold on the Ford. This weekend, I will be going down the showroom to sign for the new Fiesta. Click the link to see the video: Video: Fiesta vs Lamborghini
  22. [extract] Ford has revealed the Fiesta-based CUV Concept called the EcoSport at the New Delhi Auto Expo. Its exterior features styling cues from the Evos concept, such as the large trapezoidal grille at the front. Apart from the aggressive front end, the EcoSPort
  23. The Ford Fiesta made its ASEAN debut at the recent Thailand International Motor Expo, and will go into production next year at the AutoAlliance Thailand plant. The USD 500 million facility is a joint venture between Mazda and Ford. The Thai factory will supply Fiestas to the ASEAN region, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa , which are all the major right-hand drive markets. A sedan version of the Fiesta will be made available at a later date. Over the past 10 years, more car manufacturers are moving their production to Asean cities to lower their production and probably distribution cost. However, consumers do not really benefit much from this. For example, a 2.0L Thailand made Toyota Camry is going at SGD 98,488 whereas a Japan sourced 2.0L Nissan Teana is priced at SGD 89,500 (source: www.sgcarmart.com, data updated as of 10 Dec 09).
