Lorrliew Neutral Newbie July 21, 2005 Share July 21, 2005 Read numerous times on the internet about this modification, bypassing coolant to the throttle body to prevent heating up of the throttle body. 'Although the throttle body will eventually heat up due to the heat transfer from the engine, it will be considerably cooler than before.' Any MCF bros tried this mod before, can anyone advise on the effectively? ↡ Advertisement
Elfenstar 3rd Gear July 22, 2005 Share July 22, 2005 (edited) Yup the coolant flowing through the throttle body is meant to for really cold winter climates, and then only for start-up. Once the car is warmed up, its a power robber as it increases the intake air temp. If you're going to TC a NA car, thats the coolant line i would hijack for the turbo. I havent done it myself as this line runs from under my TB, but I've had friends who've done it and say that it seems to have more power now (seems to as the cars havent eben dynoed yet). Jamesgetz 4th Gear July 22, 2005 Share July 22, 2005 my advice is don't bother. the engine bay is really very hot with all the heat radiating from the engine block and under steady op conditions, your throttle body will be very hot even without the coolant. it may work if you do very good heat shielding for your throttle body and thermal barrier coat your manifold (and maybe also the throttle body) but don't think it's worth the time and effort ↡ Advertisement
