Hoppe Clutched July 18, 2005 Share July 18, 2005 Need some expert advice here. My old ride is recently giving me some rough idling. Normal idle at 900-1K rpm but occasionally will go up to 1.5K, then after a while the car will choke a bit and idle drops back. This situation is not consistent. I suspect it have something to do with fuel/air burning ratio not being consistent or Radiator not working 100%(causing a little bit of overheating), as this problem seems to surface when the engine is stressed. For eg, on steep roads, after running the highway, etc. Also on cold weather, the problem seems to occur less comparing to hot weather. The other reason could be my carb acting up. But anyway, if any bros have any good comments, pls voice out. ↡ Advertisement
Fortress Clutched July 18, 2005 Share July 18, 2005 The follow might be the reason; A. spark plugs - when did you change it b. high tension cables to the plugs. try disengaging each and see any changes. c. Radiator - check temp d. Fuel pump failing e. Fuel filter clogged - check filter. My guess in priority, b then d. Hope it helps. Ivan
Hoppe Clutched July 18, 2005 Author Share July 18, 2005 (edited) a & b are out as I recently changed spark plugs & checked tension cables. For Radiator, maybe...gotta check. For Fuel Filter, high possibility as I haven't change it for a while. What is the rationale behind the fuel filter causing rough idling? Fortress Clutched July 18, 2005 Share July 18, 2005 Somehow the reply notice is not sending any mesage.... Anyway, based on what you have said, whent here is a surge in power requirement, the car runs roughly. That means you de-press the throttle more, and more fuel is required, thereafter, if the fuel filter is clogged, then there is a lag, and the car judder under fuel deficency, my guess. Hoppe Clutched July 18, 2005 Author Share July 18, 2005 (edited) ok...how much is the mkt price for a fuel filter? must the car fuel tank be empty during change? Worry that petrol drains out.... Edited July 18, 2005 by Hoppe
Fortress Clutched July 18, 2005 Share July 18, 2005 What car are you driving, it ranges from S$10 to S$

Fortress Clutched July 18, 2005 Share July 18, 2005 Cheap...should be less than S$30. It is a clear plastic piece, with 2 male connectors, one from the fuel tank and the other to the engine.
Fortress Clutched July 18, 2005 Share July 18, 2005 No need to worry about fuel lost, minimum amount as it like unplugging and plugging back that's all
