Mzrmazda3 6th Gear July 18, 2005 Share July 18, 2005 Think for K&N, there is a sticker which states 'No need cleaning for 50,000 miles' if i did not remember wrongly but who will wait til 50,000 miles then clean their air filter one IMHO, every 10,000km clean once will be fine but remember not to oil too much on the filter after cleaning as some people said that if it is not dry thoroughly will damage the air flow sensor

Hoppe Clutched July 18, 2005 Author Share July 18, 2005 getting a 2nd hand one tonite. U having the K&N?
Genie47 1st Gear July 18, 2005 Share July 18, 2005 (edited) K&N filters uses bed filtration. The more dirt that gets stuck into it, the better the filtration because it is the dirt that catches the dirt. Yes, it is true. Bed filtration is used in many industrial applications but K&N's version is extreme because in the first few hunder or more k of mileage, dirt still continues to go into the intake. Just take a clean K&N filter and see into the light. There are more than enough holes for an elephant to pass through. I would suggest you do what one user here does, install and forget. Genie47 1st Gear July 18, 2005 Share July 18, 2005 SG has too much dirt in the air. Better filtration is better than high flow. Anyway, the flow through a K&N is already quite OK.

Mzrmazda3 6th Gear July 18, 2005 Share July 18, 2005 I'm not on K&N now so can't help you on this but the cleaning kit which consists of the washing solution & oil will cost you about 20 plus bucks as i have bought it before for my previous ride in 1999

Soya Supersonic July 18, 2005 Share July 18, 2005 nowadays u can get a new one for abt $70 from Speedworks. i'd recommend that instead of potentially over cleaning or over-oiling it and screwing up yr engine.
Linus Clutched July 18, 2005 Share July 18, 2005 wah.. thanks for the clarifications, man. i thot it will be good to take out the filter every week when i do W&W. i sure "beat" the filter against the floor to take out any foreigh objects and wipe clean the filter. perhaps can air-blow the filter or wipe clean the filter which i notice is quite dirty to the touch. other than tt, it sure save me some $$$ instead of changing every 10k for abt $5.00 each. ↡ Advertisement
