Change Dryer unit for Aveo airconditioner? A Rethink.

Hi, My 20K is coming up soon and I am re-thinking about not changing my Aveo's dryer unit. GM has recommended changing the aircond dryer unit every 20km. My question is, why does GM recommend this replacement if it is not necessary? I don't think that SA printed this in our service manual, it has to be from GM.

My son has a Hyundai, I must check his service manual to see if they recomend this replacement too.

Any ideas please? I have to make an expensive decision soon. [:(]

Even Yeohbh has said that the A/C dryer is the last thing to replace on an auto A/C system. Either it is some money making thing or the A/C dryer must really be lousy. Something is not right here.

changing the dryer unit at 20k is no longer mandatory....at least that's what happen at my 20k in apr....so SA should not be changing any

The gist of my message is not the mandatory replacement, but what if GM is telling the truth, i.e. by not replacing your car's drier, you air-cond system will be compromised. [:/]

Then the A/C must be damn lousy which I seriously doubt it is. The dryer is the last thing to go save the compressor and have a lifespan of around 5-6yrs.

So the million dollar question is... Should we change or should we not...? [sweatdrop]

I've asked them at my 20k servicing. They said they followed the manual i.e. change the dryer at 20k (I have not verify that with the manual). But however, due to customer's feedback, they wrote to the principal and have the mandatory change at 20k waived off. Mine was not changed at 20k. And I left it at that.

My previous ride, SDP 817 D Hyundai Matrix 1.6A done 41 months & completed 80,000KM.

The AC was still in the best of condition when it was exported in May 2005.

Save yr $$$$$$$$$$$$$ no need to replace AC drier at 20,000KM.

Now riding Aveo5 1.4A with speedo at 4800KM.

Aveo5 AC Should OK & last a good 3-5 yr trouble free....save yr PEANUT $$$$$$$$$$$

No Replacement for me.

Mt Mileage is 35K now

And my A/C is so cooling

good.

The thing is even if you

changed at 20K, the warranty

for the A/C system will void

or should I say expire at 40K.

So whats the point!!

Must as well forgo the warranty

and save yourself hundreds of dollars.

So I let it be when I go for

my 20K service the other time

and dont even consider about it.

At least I can sleep well at night

thinking that I make a wise

choice.

U Decide.
