Neutral Newbie

Hi Sonny,

There is quite a list of differences btw classic & tour.

these are the features which tour has, not classic.

1. Nagivate system (incldg reserve tank mileage)

2. Power windows (front&back)

3. power side mirrors

4. 15" Alloy rim (Momo or Toora rims)

5. Leather seats with Onyx black interior'

6. console trim at your choice of design

7. Engine : 74kw (with 145Nm torque) (Classic's 55kw)

8. fully synchronised 4-speed auto (classic's manual)

i guess there are still more. but, i bought because of

pt 7 & 8. The power delivery in auto is surprisingly

responsive.

My current classic depreciates at $5.5k/month, and the

new tour will depreciates at rate of $6.05k/month (based

on 10 years). Not including financial cost.

Yes...conti car makers measure power output at the wheel while Jap take it direct from engine flywheel, which did not take into the consideration of power transmission lost.

I seriously don't think so bro. I have the specs with me:

Opel Astra 2L Turbo - 200BHP

Megane Sport 2L Turbo - 225BHP

Fiat Stilo Abarth 2.4L - 170BHP

Hi FALC

BHP = Brake HorsePower

Conti car measure by BHP while Jap car measure by HP.

-Horsepower Defined-

"Horsepower is defined as the amount of energy or work required to

raise a weight of 33,000 pounds a height of one foot in one minute of

time or to overcome or create a force which is equivalent to doing

that amount of work. Therefore in simplified terms, a horsepower is

33,000 foot pounds of work done in one minute. However, horse power

may be required at various power points of the engine and the

calculation must be accordingly. For instance, the horse power

generated by an engine, as indicated by the power in the cylinders,

may not be the actual power which can be utilized for work as there is

the friction of the engine to be considered. Then there is "brake"

horsepower which is the actual horsepower delivered to the engine

shaft and which can be used for work, and the "effective" horsepower,

etc..."

Hope this clarifies... [;)]

That's no clarification. U have not find a definition that says BHP is power at the wheels. And whatever happen to WHP that people uses also? [:|]

You are right. Nothing was said about the efficiency of the engine power to the wheels...which is what all of us love.

Sorry...actually I am trying to explain or clarify that Jap's car (HP) did not take into consideration of transmission loss while Conti does (BHP).

Ya...I should not have used the word meausre on "wheel"...my mistake...apology... [lipsrsealed]

No apologies needed here, I guess, just friends talking...was interested at his points that it is the engine, trying to know and learn more from him.

Hi Superb, BHP also does not take transmission loss into account lor. I wish, but it doesn't. [bigcry]

Turbocharged

i test drove with gerard too. told me skoda will soon launch a marketing blitz. that will mean additional expenses.. absence of marketing now is the reason why they could keep prices low all this while. so be prepared for higher prices...

btw octavia's boot reminds me of a kia mentor

Octavia Tour auto is selling for $74,699.

Ford Focus 1.6 auto is selling for $76,900. But I can choose $4K worth of accessories or receive $4K off the listed price, meaning I pay only $72,900.

At such prices and the Focus' higher OMV, isn't the Focus a better deal for a pure bred German car?

The Focus comes with free :

- Leather seats

- CD Changer

- 15 inch alloy rims

- Extra remote key

- Leather clad steering wheels

- Rear disc brakes

- ESP (Electronic stability programme)

I test drove it yesterday and fell in love with iot instantly. The ESP meant you could take corners at hair raising speeds without much body roll and yet maintain control.

The tiptronic gear shift was a joy to play with. Back in auto mode, gear change was precise and smooth and downshifted willingly.

At 80km/h, I depressed the accelerator all the way and it downshifted 2 gears to 2nd without any hesitation, roared to the 6200rpm redline before shifting to 3rd.

The ABS, when executed, was sharp and precise. Steering feel was excellent.

It was after the test drive, when I drove my Jap Tin Can home, and I could feel the insecurity in a Jap car, where the floating feel was apparent even at 60km/h, and the metal so soft.

Individual preference I suppose... But I do admit, the Ford will be a better buy in terms of new gadgetry/technology over the Octy Tour which is already 4 yrs old (facelift) and comes with no ESP, rear disc brakes, etc....

CA will be wise to lower the price when it's up against such competition...

It's REALLY time to bring in the New Octy... I seriously question the management and their aquisition of the xxxx number of Octy Tours for sale [rolleyes] instead of bringing in the long await new model [hur]

(BTW Ford is American, not German [;)] )

So does anybody know the actual horsepower of the NA Octy? If its really 101bhp on the crank, then I presume only bout 75-80 horses on the wheels which is terribly underpowered for a 1.5 ton car?? [confused] Doesnt feel that low to me though. [:/]
