Elfenstar 3rd Gear July 1, 2005 Share July 1, 2005 when conti spec says 75bhp it is at the wheels. Mine 323 spec is 109bhp is at the engine flywheel. I found out tat at the wheels it show only 80bhp. I think japs cars are not reflecting their specs correctly. You sure about the conti cars?? I always thought all manufacturers use flywheel power and torque ratings??? Your 323 sounds about right, theres 10-20% drivetrain loss in a FWD, but it varies by about 10% on top of that depending on components used. ↡ Advertisement

Fortress Clutched July 1, 2005 Share July 1, 2005 I think the point is the way they say it, whether is it HP or BHP....that's the difference. Anyway, most Japanese cars have smaller gear ratio and lighter cars chassis hence it seems to be more powerful and stuffs.
Fluffy Clutched July 1, 2005 Share July 1, 2005 the octy using the old VW vento 1.6L engine is 75bhp. the octy using the current bora, golf IV and tody 1.6 SR engine is 100bhp.

Normal_aspirated Clutched July 1, 2005 Share July 1, 2005 wat i noe for italian cars, the BHP is at the wheels and not at engine flywheel. mine protege is confirmed 80bhp (stock) at the wheels by a dyno machine.

Fortress Clutched July 1, 2005 Share July 1, 2005 Thanks for the update. Usually look at the Capacity of the car versus the gear to make an informed understanding of the car's power.
Fluffy Clutched July 1, 2005 Share July 1, 2005 hi, just read an article regarding the octavia tour http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/publish/sko...inter_974.shtml it is bascially the mkI sold along side the mkII. There used to be only Classie, Ambiente and Elegence. The "Tour" just refers to the MkI models as for what engine it has, i don;t know what SG offers, but in Ireland http://www.skoda-auto.ie/contentv3/index.c...06&parentID=804 it comes with 75KW, 102Bhp engine for the 1.6L this is not the same as the 1.6SR with is 8V, the 102bhp engine is probably the newer 1.6 liter with 16V best to check with CA. Passerby Neutral Newbie July 3, 2005 Share July 3, 2005 Guys, gone thru car shopping for several months (from Ford, Opel to Mazda). Test driven so many cars, and is convinced that Octy is still the most fun and sturdy car, worth every cent especially in the sub-$70K+ range. Finally book an Octy Tour at S$70k (auto) Recommend you guys to see Gerard Gan (a patient & honest SE from Czech Auto).

I'm also currently driving a classic, and she kinda act up on me recently when I start looking for other cars. What's the difference between the tour & classic? Thanks for your info. Putter Neutral Newbie July 5, 2005 Share July 5, 2005 when conti spec says 75bhp it is at the wheels. Mine 323 spec is 109bhp is at the engine flywheel. Your 323 sounds about right, theres 10-20% drivetrain loss in a FWD, but it varies by about 10% on top of that depending on components used. Yes...conti car makers measure power output at the wheel while Jap take it direct from engine flywheel, which did not take into the consideration of power transmission lost. In the past, it is still okay as Jap's car were light then. However, recent Jap car started to use heavy platform to stablize performance at higher speed, which is almost close to Conti car platform liao...hence, I think flywheel measurement will have a disadvantage on this reflection.
