30K servicing

Hmmm....seems like CA has different practises from other companies. Their 30K, 60K n 90K services are the major ones. I've scanned in the checklist for those who're interested. Just did our 30K servicing for our slightly more than 2-yr old Octavia 1.6 GLXi(Auto) with 30+K mileage. The charges r as follow:

Labour $132

oil filter $15

blower filter element $21

air filter $30

battery water $1.8

Mobil 1 5W-50 fully synthetic (4.5L) $94.50

repair tyre $10

Total $316.47

The parts are almost double of buying ourselves (as compared with Octaviafan's), and the labour charges [knife]. But we're just not comfortable with going to outside workshops [:/]

Hi Spotty, so where did you send your car for the 30K servicing? How was the service?

Mine is up for servicing and i am still contemplating. Wondering if CA does a thorough job for such high labour cost ( or do they just tick the checklist?)- need them to check on my steering warning light that comes on once in a while and wheel balancing/rotation.

Fabiete,,

HI there.......am new to the Skoda lounge but not new to the VAG grouping.......used to own a SEAT and am still quite active in SEATSG. Am now driving a June 2001 Fab 1.4m. For your Power steering light concern its a faulty power steering sensor thats causing that intermittent warning light.

FYI, CA will either charge you the max of SGD 1300 for the ENTIRE power steering assembly inclusive of the sensor which in UK is available separately for GB pounds 45 !!!! Am considering bringing in this sensor on my own and having someone else other than CA do it. The charge an arm and a leg to do simplest of jobs !!! FYI again, even if you were to pay the max of SGD 1300, they beautiful thing is they DO NOT carry stock !!!!! Even for the 45 GB pound sensor, CA charges SGD 280 !!!!!! Even @ 3 Exchange rate, 35 pounds will only equate to 135 SGD.........u tell me then.........????

When I found that out ..........my first impression was CA sucks !!! BIG TIME !! What say u ?? Are you keen to join in if I were to bring in one lot of sensors from the UK ??

BTW, my skoda always have the power steering light warning flash up after some distance. Servo can't seem to solve it and even though they say it's been resetted I still get the warning after a hard turn. Power steering do feel funny at time (heavy) and also some minor jerk. Anyone have this experince?

Peter,

Please read the posting above this regarding the power steering concern, I have a solution to the problem........u wanna join in ??

Please let me know.......

OCtyFAn,

Just for your knowledge, the Fabia does not run on Rack & Pinion Power Steering like the OCty. The fabia is running a direct action rack & pinion Power Steering meaning it DOES NOT use pwr strg fluid as like in the OCty. It is electronic, hence thye use of a sensor. It is this sensor thats failing in the Fabia now. It seems to an inherent problem with the Fabia 1.4 8v thats available in Singapore. So the Fab DOES NOT have a power steering fluid reservoir !!!!!!!!!

* Fab owners please take note........ [jawdrop]

Hi Fabiete,

Good to hear from you!

I finally sent it to CA for servicing. It cost me abt $239. Changed oil filter, air filter, some pollen thingy, and the engine oil (Mobile 1 - 5W-50).

They did abt 30 other visual checks on car.

Personally, i feel it was quite comprehensive and it gave me some peace of mind. [:)]

However, i asked them to check on my brakes and they told me it would be chargeable. [jawdrop] So, i din let them check. i think if you asked them to check the wheel balancing and the steering warning light, they will most likely charge you for it. [:(] So, do check out the costs first before letting them do any additional checks if you intend to send your car there.

There are other alternatives like Servo but seems like mixed reviews. I have not tried their services yet. Some say very good , others say not too good. U could try Auto dynamics too for their reasonable pricing ( i sent car to them during the 20K servicing to change engine oil and check air filter, oil filter). Friendly and good service! [sunny]. However i chose CA for the job because i thot might be good to let agent do it and also partly to see how good they were in servicing aspects.

Hope this helps. Final decision still rests with U ! [cool]

regards,

Spottyred.

Hi Meow,

Long time no hear!

My car will be 2 in August. Actually, i have not thot abt the brake fluid change. My next servicing is at 45K range which is still a long way away. Thot of waiting till then. [:p]

The last time i checked with CA was the squeaky sound from the front. I think he mentioned something abt $100 plus for the brake check. I did not check further details then as i was appalled with the steep price. U may want to enquire more fully to compare prices perhaps with Servo as well.

Heehee! i have been lazy..so ought to be spanked ( [smash]). i have not read the details in the manual fully. Thanks for the reminder.

Yes long time no see meow posting [nod]

Thanks for the replied. [;)]

As u mentioned abt CA charge a steep price for servicing somthing [mad] but one good thing [:)] is that they die die also must solve the problem [rolleyes] . As Meow previous air-con problem also took a few days at CA becos they cannot find the problem. At last swapped the car with them (They loan a Oct to Meow FOC [nod] )until the problem was solved. [nod] Labour cost abt $100 plus. A few components were changed and them put back. [dead][crazy] Every air-con related parts were tested. [dizzy].

Spotty,

From what i can gather its your brake pads that are squeeking. Stock pads installed on the Fab are bad !! I had mine changed when i bought the fab @ 1.5 years old. Cost ?? SGD$ 75 + labour for Mintex Red Box pads ......much much better thah stock Skoda pads......to reduce squeek........have them greased. FYI all this done @ Servo. Let me know and I'll bring you guys there.....I know Dennis personally.

Hello C708,

Sqeaky sound occurs only when driving at speeds above 80 Km/hr.

Brakes occasionally screech esp after rain which i usually do a hard brake to remove the brake dust and rust.

But our Fabia brake pads are thick which is good. Perhaps the oiling would be a good idea for better lubrication. Can this be DIY-ed ? If so, what oil to use ?

Thanks.

Spots,

Its greasing not oiling........u need to use grease on the pads....that will reduce the screeching on the pads. Did it on mine......wah laa..no more screech !!

C708,

Grease on the brake pad?

So far have not heard or done anything like these b4.

What type of grease do they use, any idea?

Was wandering, if grease between pad and disc, where is the friction to stop the rotating wheel.
