Sony 1st Gear March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 It's a cheapo, low entry level, heavy and having slow-pickup Astra. Some also said it got no resale value, high maintenace and have a lot of problem. ↡ Advertisement
Sony 1st Gear March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 Mine is known as Deflation Detection System (DDS). but not all the astra have this. only certain batches. Go M'sia must bring space... Some extracts from http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/...f_astra_en.html Tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS and DDS) The new Astra is the first passenger car to be equipped with two independent, complementary systems that measure and monitor tire pressure. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) uses sensor modules on each wheel to measure tire pressure and temperature values with great accuracy and transmit them to a central onboard receiver. Depending on the drop in pressure, the system then provides the driver with either a status message or an alarm signal. The Continental Teves Deflation Detection System (DDS), which is already featured in several volume-built models, identifies tire deflation as soon as the pressure drops by approximately 30 percent by comparing wheel speeds. In the Astra the system has two roles: In the event of a TPMS failure, DDS automatically assumes the monitoring function and continues to provide protection against critical drops in pressure. DDS will maintain this level of protection even if Opel Astra drivers fit winter tires without TMPS sensors. In addition, DDS can tell which tire has deflated, so that TMPS can display this information on the instrument panel - even if a wheel has been changed and the cockpit module coding neglected. Kelpie 2nd Gear March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 1. Thats a really cool feature! 2. More than what normal TPMS can do. Regards,
Sony 1st Gear March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 actually all these are secondary check.. nothing can replace physical check.. My friend, whom drove his father's 7 series at time, said that the system keep prompting him of a deflation, but when he check, it's ok.. even went to PML and they said the system is too sensitive.. One fine day, the system didn't prompt him and the next we know, tow truck come liao.. we have a leaking tyre..
Kelpie 2nd Gear March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 1. So this built-in TPMS is also not reliable too? 2. The least I want from the TPMS is to tell me that all tires pressure are ok and there is no leakage. Regards,
Sony 1st Gear March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 invest in a good valve cap is the best... and cheaper as well
Kelpie 2nd Gear March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 invest in a good valve cap is the best... and cheaper as well 1. This is basic. 2. But a good valve cap will not help on a leaking tyre. I'm on N2. Regards,
Sony 1st Gear March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 I just came out from kampong... what is N2?

Falc 3rd Gear March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 Perhaps the 7 series does not come with TPMS but just something like the DDS which is really not accurate on it's own. A sensor type TPMS should do better than that. At least on mine they verified with physical pressure gauge readings.
Falc 3rd Gear March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 So sleek win liao. Makes me wonder why mine came with a long reception antenna.
Yeobh 4th Gear March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 This simple after market set comes with screw-on sensors that are mounted on the tubless valves. For yours I believe it's much more expensive as the temp/pressure sensors are mounted inside the tyres. Yeobh 4th Gear March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 Maybe Sony is referring to LED blinking light that comes on when the tyre pressure goes below the pre-set value
Sony 1st Gear March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 oh... I just found my primary sch textbook. N2 = nitrogen For this blinking indicator, TP will catch anot? it's considered illegal decorative lights
Falc 3rd Gear March 26, 2007 Share March 26, 2007 Mine is inside the tyre, with the sensor acting as a stem valve also (inside). Is it the screw on type u mention? http://www.bta4wd.com/category596_1.htm I know another sensor type also, but it is strapped around the rims. Is there another type? Yeobh 4th Gear March 26, 2007 Share March 26, 2007 The other one is actually a wheel rotation counter. Underinflated tyres will have high rolling resistance and the counter will pick up the rotation speed and compare with the other wheels.
Armskote Neutral Newbie March 26, 2007 Share March 26, 2007 See attached photo- set cw keychain indicator Hi, where u get the N2? who much is it? is it also act as a car alarm remote controller?
Yeobh 4th Gear March 26, 2007 Share March 26, 2007 Come across this item from a cat send to me. Once the tyre pressue goes below the preset prssure the LED lights up ↡ Advertisement
