Roboto Neutral Newbie June 18, 2005 Share June 18, 2005 Has anyone tried any TPMS on their rides or know of any pros and cons? So far have heard of Road Snoop and the 3rd Eye systems available. Anyone tired them before care to comment? Thanks. ↡ Advertisement
Falc 3rd Gear October 14, 2006 Share October 14, 2006 Old post, but don't feel like starting a new thread. Anyone can shed some light on the various kinds of TPMS? Presumably most are made in China already. But the price @ eBay seem to vary widely still from $100-$400 that kind.
Firehorse 1st Gear October 16, 2006 Share October 16, 2006 (edited) if u are lazy to pump air every 2-3 weeks, i suggest you pump nitrogen. only need to do it yearly and cost less than $20. why spend $100-$400 dollar on a monitoring syst moreover, the thing you buy might get spoilt and $$$ down the drain. really not an essential thing to spend money on. Falc 3rd Gear October 17, 2006 Share October 17, 2006 Well my reason for getting one is not that. It's more for safety. I have gotten slow leak which i didnt realise and within 2 weeks it led to complete puncture on the road while on the move, at which point then i felt the car wobbling already. I feel this is unsafe not to mention the tyre is beyond repair already. The TPMS will raise alert on any leak earlier and any leak can be repaired earlier also. It also helps when travelling frequently along NS Highway since one cannot check the pressure on the move, but the TPMS can. In fact in USA, government has mandated TPMS for newer vehicles, under the recommendation of their traffic safety bureau. So think again.
Firehorse 1st Gear October 17, 2006 Share October 17, 2006 well, for good reason you have, but how reliable is this after market products ? I reserve my doubts. anyway, before such gadget become widely available in reasonable cost, and the products have been well tested for its accuracy & reliability, I will stick to the most common method, walk around your car and check the tires every time before you start your engine. And I stressed EVERY TIME. Cheers
Falc 3rd Gear October 17, 2006 Share October 17, 2006 (edited) Ya, experience counts and also after reading the increasing NS highway accident due to tyre burst. Actually TPMS has been around for the longest time, and doesnt take rocket science to measure pressure if your $10 pressure gauge from petrol station can do it. Attach a treatise on benefits and analysis of TPMS. Basically there are two kinds of detection, one is via direct pressure sensor. Second method is via the change in circumference of the rotating wheel under the assumption that lower pressure tyre will have smaller travelling diameter than the higher pressure ones. Second method is inferior and not that accurate. So u can imagine how visual inspection will be even less reliable and accurate, and especially for low profile tyres because any pressure reduction causes a very small change in tyre diamater. 2005APR01_STECH_TA.pdf Edited October 17, 2006 by Falc

Falc 3rd Gear October 17, 2006 Share October 17, 2006 No problemo. I have another much longer 161-pages treatise from US National Highway Traffic Safety Admin (NHTSA) on TPMS, too big a file to upload.

Falc 3rd Gear March 22, 2007 Share March 22, 2007 Ya sort of need to reconfigure the position, unless i manually keep track of the position - front or back since mine is directional tyres.

Mingsect 5th Gear March 22, 2007 Share March 22, 2007 i got a set of these montiorng system from a guy selling off one of the forum $300 he told me he imported a few set in.. hmm, pretty useful i must say , no need to go petrol station, just check the reading every morning. and once there is any leak , will know at once.. some of the system can be config to alert when the tyre pressure falls or exceeed a certain " preset level" i did some research.. here are some points to note try to get those with metal valve instead of rubber valve. each sensor have abt 5 year of batt life build in. once the batt finish, time to change 1. and best is to install when changing rims or tyres, less hassle. the better models let u re-pair or re sync when you change sensors or rorate tyres http://translate.google.com/translate?u=ht...language_tools1
Falc 3rd Gear March 22, 2007 Share March 22, 2007 (edited) $30 to install and balance all 4, coz i cant wait to change tyre then install.
