Neutral Newbie

Hi all,

Got some newbie questions.

I drive a suzuki Jimny which comes with 4" speakers, both front and rear. As the 2-door jeep does not have much boot space, and the door panels does not seem to be able to fit speakers, I've been told by Pin Liang that they need to "cut metal" to enable me to fit larger speakers. Other places say no need to waste money on upgrading since 4" can only do so much. [shakehead]

Is this the end of the car hifi road for me? What options do I have? Is "cutting metal" a feasible and advisable option? (Guess I am what you call "gun-shy".) Lastly, any recommendations for workshops good in carrying out your suggestions?

Cheers all.

Hi,

As long as the cut metal surface is properly treated with anti-rust and sealed with silicone or water proof sealant, I don't see any problem with cutting metal.

For good bass response, 6.5" mid driver is essential. Hence there is truth in the installers telling u that 4" speakers can't do much. I've sent u a private message with regards to speaker upgrade.

The Jimny is not unlike many other cars in that the door metal inner panel needs to be cut in order to fit a better speaker. No so far I have never known any door rusting becuz of this and never known anyone to do rust proofing becuz of it. That area of the door is not usually exposed to moisture unless the door has a serious leak problem to rain.

Some of the senior Bros here have auditioned a Jimny we did at a Forum meet sometime back, maybe they can fill U in on how they found it.
