Just got a 10" alpine subwoofer and enclosure. May I know what's the best position to place the woofer in the trunk? Thanks.

Cheers

Face the rear if you are driving Hatchback and have already sound proof your rear 5th door double layer.

Face the front aiming at the rear passenger seat if you are out to blast them deaf.

Face the right (place on the left wall) if you are the main audience of your subwoofer.

Face the left (place on the right wall) if your front passenger is the main audience of your subwoofer.

Face the sky (place into the spare tyre well) if you have stand by tow truck 24 hours and already sound proofen the spare tyre well with thick accumat/bitumen.

Interesting.....any reason why need 24 tow truck standby? [sweatdrop]

Interesting theory. Does "facing" the right (place on the left wall) if you are the main audience of your subwoofer" really help you think?

i remember reading low frequency tend to be non-directional? if u go to the newer BK/MOS outlets, some of them have Bose sound system with the Acoutimass subwoofer and you will be hard pressed to locate the subwoofer

I would say, before mounting the box, experiment first to see what suits you. Upwards or facing the rear would be what I would do, but also depends on the acoustics of ur car.

If u face the rear, and the wave reflecting on the rear of the car bounces back and cancels out the incoming sound wave, might have probs. Also check the resonance of the boot lid. Helped a fren with his woofer some time back and the bootlid made too much noise, like someone in there trying to kick out! [hur]

Yup, as wat i know, low freq is non directional, or at least for a small space like a car, it shouldnt affect.

When I helped my fren instal his in his 93 mitsu magna, the concern was only the cancellation effect of the sound waves as it reflected on the back of the car.. and the rattling bootlid..

Quite true, its non-directional as in the sense its quite difficult to track where the sound came from. But still there is a bit of difference. Try experimenting with the subwoofer for those of you with the box. You might feel some difference especially the one facing the rear seat of the passenger when you play hard bass techno.

Try not to face directly the rear if your rear door has not been sound proof well, bcos the door inside might have lose components vibrating and causing irritating noise. When it face away from the door, the deflected vibration is less like to create the noise in the rear door. Its most irritating to hear noise vibrating when your subwoofer are blasting. [:)]

Haha...at first also duno, but after having the box subwoofer, I slowly realise the difference when its at different position.

I only played some techno, then subwoofer will change its position after every few trip whenever I have an empty boot last time.

Guess the box is dancing with the music. [laugh]

Now no more already. I always use things to block it, so that it cannot jump that far.

try using some velcro~~ at the 4 corners... not that it is going to be very secure but it will help a bit and ur woofer box wont dance anymore~~ heh heh

My car boot floor now is with fake 3M type of carpet, so I dont think velcro can stick onto it. Any other solution?

Please dont ask me to put a dumpbell on top of the box...haha.
