Gdiking Neutral Newbie December 28, 2002 Share December 28, 2002 Hi all, was wondering whether any bros know of a good place to buy spark plug wrenches? Tried autobacs and Stamford tyres, but those wrenches they sell are the std, twist type, virtually useless as they don't deliver enough torque. What I am looking for is for those tyre of wrenches that the mechanics use, long extension with a torque wrench and of course the all important socket head. Any place to recommend to check out for this? ↡ Advertisement
Saaber Neutral Newbie December 28, 2002 Share December 28, 2002 Any hardware shop would have what you need and is cheaper......Autobacs and Stamford Tyres are the wrong places to look for these tools , even if available, the tools would be more expensive. Gdiking Neutral Newbie December 28, 2002 Author Share December 28, 2002 I did go to one today, but I discovered something, that std 16 mm socket heads cannot fit into the spark plug bore of my GDI engine! The cheap one which I bought from Stamford tyres that can fit perfectly, I used back the detachable head, bought an adapter so that it could fit on my extension. However I discovered that even though the adapter was less than 1MM wider than the reused detachable head, it could not fit into the bore!!! The designers of this engine are indeed very clever. That's why I need someone who has bought one and tried it out successfully on his Lancer GDI to advise me.
Saaber Neutral Newbie December 28, 2002 Share December 28, 2002 (edited) What you need is the thin wall deep socket type... Edited December 28, 2002 by Eddie
Madarmour Neutral Newbie December 29, 2002 Share December 29, 2002 Can try Kelantan Lane. Many hardware shops there. IMO good tools doesn't come cheap and you certainly don't want bits and pieces of metal dropping into the combustion chamber! Snap-On is a very good brand but they costs a lot! Some mechanics who are proud of their work uses Snap-On tools!
Saaber Neutral Newbie December 29, 2002 Share December 29, 2002 I agree with you, paying for a good set of tools will pay off in the long run....like for example, I paid $45.00 for a good tyre gauge....very accurate...cheap one don't even come close in term of accuracy....
