Test drove a GTI this afternoon at LK. The car is a junk, interior sucks and can't feel the power it claims. [thumbsdown]

A small and cheapo car and yet trying to project itself as luxury sport car. Not the kind of car that I will get want to get.

Headed off to SM which is just 10m apart. Sat and test on the S40T5, the interior is far superior than the GTI . Was happy with it and the offer make. Sign up the paper immediately without even a need for a second thought.

2nd Volvo in the family after my S60T5.

Don't think its that bad...

Though my friend tested it and SE said it can't swap with aftermarket turbo or CEL will light up. hmmm ...... [gossip]

Interesting review. Feels slow coz the turbo kicks at a around 2k rpm all the way to 6k rpm i think. Volvo T5 the turbo also v smooth n linear as driven that before.

cant b compared 2 Rex coz the Rex turbo is like a nozz boost from out of nowhere... some pple like the squashed against seat feeling, others prefer linear turbo, which in the end wld feel more like a 3 or 4litre NA car instead.

So i think wat u mean is u dont feel the kick but u r actually going v fast right?

I don't think its got anything to do with the size of the turbo because the stock WRX's TD04 is pretty small already. Anything smaller than that, might as well use a conventional fan. [laugh]

I would suspect the GTI is using a lower boost compared to WRX's 12-15 psi stock settings.

volvo is in a different league all together. [sly]

well, at least he did not compare the GTI with WRX[:p]

interest in TC cars are getting stronger...the dark side may juz consume all of us! [sly]

a pretty strange comparison if you asking me, not just considering the $20k+ price difference (unless he has discounts for the T5 tongue.gif)..

Comparing with the STI in $$ terms can, but in terms of ride.. a bit different leh sweatdrop.gif .. depends on what he wants... outright beast machine or something more refined tongue.gif

how about a TC car with the family man in mind?... Legacy GT inlove.gif

The problem with S40 is its positioning...

It is neither a hot hatch (GTI) or

a hot executive saloon (due to the small size)(eg BMW M3) or

a hard core road racer (WRX.

There is also limited tuners compare to the mainstream. It is nevertheless a fun car to begin but I think resale will be a problem.

...Tis is likely why VW is having problems selling their PHAETONs... check out their TV ads for the PHAETON;

Got a chance to "use" a 6 litre V12 Phaeton for 3 days while visting their factory in Dresden...totally different class of Phaeton we are talking about. The one we have in Singapore are the el-cheapo version. The "real" Phaeton is a differnt class, both inside and out. The powerplant is the same unit as in the Bentley Continental, minus the twin turbo of course. Confirm can move the big lump from 0-100km/h in less than 5 sec thumbsup.gif

...but agree, even in Germany Phaeton is a failure. Not because of engineering, but most probably because of the badge shakehead.gif

Don't think CEL is the problem when changing to bigger turbo on the GTi, coz an aftermarket chip should prevent it.

Fueling could be the culprit here. Big turbo => more air => higher fuel demand. But since this engine is FSI, not sure how to meet the fuel demand. [hur][hur][hur]

And the stock GTI turbo is confirmed smaller than WRX's. That's why the spool up is at lower RPM [sly] which means faster response, but smaller turbo has lower peak boost which resulted in lower max HP. [:(]

>>>VW GTI - 200 bhp while the S60 T5 - 260 bph Of course diff lah...

Add another $1-2K aftermarket bolt-on chip to get 240bhp. Now we can compare ... [nod]
