Ohshit Neutral Newbie August 19, 2005 Share August 19, 2005 Hi everyone, I am new here and I can't start my own thread. Going to be moving to OZ soon, and I wanna ask all the car experts on their advice on the following cars that I have shortlisted according to my budget A$40k ++. 1. Honda Integra Type S (act. a Type R) A$43k 2. VW golf GTI DSG $43K 3. Subrau WRX $40K I am looking for a nice looking and quality car with some power. Some consideration on insurance and also maintenance too. If this is the wrong place to post, please don;t flame me... thks.
Magfocus 5th Gear August 19, 2005 Share August 19, 2005 I think the RHD GTi 5dr is from South Africa.
Powershot Neutral Newbie August 19, 2005 Share August 19, 2005 (edited) The 3 cars u mentioned are excellent cars in their own rights but personally I would choose the Gti over the other 2 for the simple reason I know i would feel special driving an iconic car with an excellent heritage. I know the reasons sound silly but $43k is a lot of $$ to spend on a car...and other than the obvious good drive that a car offers (which i believe all the 3 cars u mentioned can meet this criteria), it should also make me feel special driving it....and I know the Gti would satisfy me the most Edited August 19, 2005 by Powershot
Nitrate Neutral Newbie August 19, 2005 Share August 19, 2005 Test drove a GTI this afternoon at LK. The car is a junk, interior sucks and can't feel the power it claims. A small and cheapo car and yet trying to project itself as luxury sport car. Not the kind of car that I will get want to get. Headed off to SM which is just 10m apart. Sat and test on the S40T5, the interior is far superior than the GTI . Was happy with it and the offer make. Sign up the paper immediately without even a need for a second thought. 2nd Volvo in the family after my S60T5. It's either your foot has a problem, or you've got a problem... How can u compare a RED HOT HATCH with a CRAMPED-UP NOTCHBACK/SEDAN?? Anyway what's with getting a second Volvo? S60T5 not good enough? S40 is pretty cramped up... looks like an Mazda3... Nitrate Neutral Newbie August 19, 2005 Share August 19, 2005 Without even thinking... get the GOLF GTI!! Build quality will definately beat WRX & Integra hands down... But then again i'm biased!
Nitrate Neutral Newbie August 19, 2005 Share August 19, 2005 the guy who posted this thread, volvot5, only posted this thread so far, this was his ONLY thread......... sliming the Gti so perhaps he works for Volvo ...... just think, all the various car magazines can;t help but sing the GTI's praises, putting it through its paces and comparing it between various cars. So.....perhaps you can't tell so much from a little test drive, nevertheless, volvot5 needs to come clean... ADMIN, you can actually delete Volvot5's account already... Bet he won't be posting anymore after this FLAME-Inviting thread... He has not replied ever since...
Ohshit Neutral Newbie August 20, 2005 Share August 20, 2005 Hi, thanks for replying. I am more skewed towards GTI too. But one of my concerns is the maintenance. Are continental cars repairs generally more expensive? And is it more expensive to repair/replace the DSG gears if it is damaged? And whats the 0-100km time for a stock type R? Thanks. Koolaba 1st Gear August 20, 2005 Share August 20, 2005 Hi, I have owned a Skoda in Austria before. You can get e expendible parts e.g. oil filter, air filter cheaply from SG and bring over to ur country of residence. The labour cost differs from country. VAG parts should not be too costly. The oil filter for my Skoda Octavia TDI costs SGD9. Good for 15000km. If u drive frequently at highspeeds on highways, getting a Conti is the way to go. Falc 3rd Gear August 21, 2005 Share August 21, 2005 Oz has a bigger honda following than VW i believe, so probably easier to get mods/repairs and cheaper too. Also depends if u want to go track, then Type R is better suited. But as a daily drive, gti dsg is more palatable. ↡ Advertisement
