Assuming same brand and model, which should be cheaper?

One shop told me 205/45/R17 is Odd size, and if I changed the package offered by them which comes with 215/40/R17, I have to pay more. Reason being there are more 215/40/R17 users.

And then I went to another shop and the boss told me the other way round.

So, who to trust?

depends on the rim u r using, is17" by 7.0 or 7.5

if its 7.5 u hafta use 215/40ZR17..

7.0 u can use 205/45ZR17

believe 215/40ZR17 is more ex, lower profile.

205/45ZR17 has higher a bit of profile and smaller traction, shld be chaper, and of cos less bouncy...

in terms of grip..215/40ZR17 is bettafrom rear see this is oso nicer......

anyway wad car u r driving?

It's unlikely the same tyre comes in both 205/45/17 and 215/40/17 as both are rare sizes. But between the two, it's more likely as 215/40 will be more ex coz that size usually available on higher grade A or A+ UHP tyre.

i kindof agree with the 1st shop, 205/45 are usually for 15 - 16" rims.

Latter option looks good... [pirate] but bumpier and slightly thirstier due to traction and weight.

many of the smaller shops don't stock these sizes. Furthermore your favorite brand/model might only have either of the sizes.

Have been asking around recently.

These are the cheaper ones from taiwan/korea/thailand.

Nankang NS-II $110

Kumho 711 $120

Firenza $130

Kumho 712 $130

BFG gForce $148

Hankook K104 $150-$155

Federal S595 ???

The Jipun and Conti brands are more ex ...

Pirelli Dragon $200

Yokohama ES100 $170-$200

Thanks for the infors.

Suppose to get my new ride (1st car) this week. But the number plate will be SFV4***. So, told my SE to delay registration by 1 week.

Should be collecting my Civic 1.6 somewhere end of next week.

So, for Civic, should I go for 17" by 7.0 or 7.5?

7JJ is sufficient. U gonna hv problems fitting tyres on 7.5 if u going for 205/45 or 215/40.

7.0 or 7.5 would be depending on the design on the rim..some comes with 17x7.0 some comes wif 17x7.5

not much of difference anyway....
