"Been up and down this bridge countless times at 5th gear 70-80, didnt experience anything like this before"

That is why the technique is wrong, if its right then there is no problem, regardless of the number of times.

Hope u get Get what I mean. [flowerface]

I think some people pointed out about the RPM. Although you did not feel this problem before, but I think feeling is always subject to environment.

If you're in a hurry or you took notice or someone hurrying you behind or other cars seem to be faster today, you feel slow. Yes its relative.

Okay with this in mind,

At highest gear, the difference between 70 and 80 kph is a great lot. Especially dependant on what RPM the torque starts kicking in. If at 70 on 5th your rpm is less than 2500, that's bad. Even a 2-litre will experience some problems going up the slope. But when you said other times, you were also near the speed, it could be 80 or slightly more. That 500 RPM difference at 2K+ RPM makes world of difference! smile.gif

Now go 2K RPM on 5th Gear and look at it on a flat road. Now floor the pedal. Notice something similar? Yup, your car doesn't seem to be going anywhere at all.

If it were any engine issue, there should be other clear symptoms on a flat road as well.

Hope it helps. smile.gif

Like I said, 5th gear up that slope, no problem... 80 90... Of course, going at 5th 70km up tt slope feel breathless, will shift down 4th. But should it not be losing power at all? I did shift down 4th and 3rd... ard 50km... floor the gas, it doesnt accelerated at all. Dun think its the way am driving... Today on straight road... 4th 70km... lost power too. Shifting down 3rd didnt help... lucky the wowo behind me managed to hit his brake on time else kiss my backside already... only secs later did I resumed my power back again. Obviously something is wrong and am here to get some advices if anyone experienced anything like tt cuz I duno. (isnt it the way forum is for?) Just like some feedback, at least I can roughly tell the mechanics what is wrong... Anyway appreciate those who posted... wink.gif

From your pic, looks like u're driving a citroen? Conti cars do have complex electronics. Perhaps it's good to bring your babe to the agent and have it checked! At least that will make you feel better! [flowerface]

Bring it back to check the ECU fault codes. I know these french cars have an "emergency" mode in which the car is limited to 60kmh to prevent engine problems if any major fault is detected.

Sounds like it's a technical fault rather than mechanical fault. Go back to the agents and have a check through out.

I did came across something like this before and it's one of the gearbox relays that's playing up.

From your last description, it not so much of gearing and up slope but engine lost its power, for that u have to go to agent and check it out.

Does your car have a tachometer, what rpm was that when u try to accel, at least it gives us an indication of the engine speed as compared to road speed.

It got stuck at 2krpm... no matter what gear and speed I was at...

Oh Oh.need to go back to agent to reset your ECU, look like some fault and the safety feature is to limit rpm to 2000 to prevent damage until fault diagnose rectify and reset.

That's rather strange dizzy.gif.....you're driving a manual car, right? If manual car and rpm seems to stuck at 2k rpm, then that's not normal. shakehead.gif

That is why I like it very much when I take my Honda 600RR on a weekend and show these car drivers how I can climb up the Benjamin Bridge especially the one coming up from Rochor towards the east...the steepest slope I reckon and feel good when I overtake every car as I reach the top and look back...to see them struggling....hehehehe [sly]

what is Honda 600RR?????

wrong gear ratio. up slope should not be at 5th gear. even if at that gear, speed should be higher than 70km/hr.

If you can't go over 2000 rpm while driving on flat road, most probably, there's a fault that throws the ECU to the 'limp' mode. Might be a MAF problem. Try looking for the socket and unplug and plug a few times. Its usually located right after the air intake box.
