Hello guys, hope someone can shed some lights on this problem I recently experience. Was going up Benjamin Sheares bridge at 5th gear ~ 70+km and felt breathless so I changed down to 4th and the car still feel the same as if I was dragging a ton of goods behind my back, even tho I changed down to 3rd at 50km, it's still the same. Had to floor the gas pedel but seems not accelerating at all. Been up and down this bridge countless times at 5th gear 70-80, didnt experience anything like this before. Going close to 10k and time for servicing but just like to have some thoughts on this...

cheers!

what car are you driving? the cc or bhp of you car do play a part. not to mention what's in your boot.

once you lose the momentum, you will need to drop gear to pick up again.

from all the above info given i guess you're the LRF type.

i think there's really nothing wrong with your car, jus step on it more.

The stretch of up slope is quite steep and long.

3rd gear at 50km/h is for cruising on flat road.

70km/h is a bit low for 5th gear i feel....

so jus down more more gear lor...

50km/h at gear2 going upslope is normal wat..

jus my 2cents..

Next time try going up Benjamin Sheares bridge at 90km/h(keep to speed limit). 5th gear at 70km/h is abit too low gear IMO.

Most cars even if you are driving a Mercs E200 would have problem climbing the slope...this is becos of the gearing and the power to weight ratio of cars. It is worse for automatic cars.

That is why I like it very much when I take my Honda 600RR on a weekend and show these car drivers how I can climb up the Benjamin Bridge especially the one coming up from Rochor towards the east...the steepest slope I reckon and feel good when I overtake every car as I reach the top and look back...to see them struggling....hehehehe [sly]

10k so fast clutch worn out? driving a 206xr, nothing much in my car. boot almost empty... what is LRF type?

Always going 5th gear at 70-80 up that BSB slope, felt ok just slow but never felt that way - losing of power. This morning Delta exit too, up slope slowing down, 5th gear, same speed too... 1st time on that slope... power loss like tt... dead.gif

I think your driving technique and the car characteristic does not match.

Since the car is a machine, that mean your technique got to change.

U need to understand your car and its characteristics like power, torque, acceleration, climbing ability, pick-up, at what rpm the engine behave best etc etc. This take time and the more u understand your car the better u can handle her.

You may have to improve your driving skill - hardly ever come across any driver trying to climb steep slop with the 5th gear.
