Astra engine noise tends to sound more refined even at higher revs. So even when the engine noise intrudes in to the cabin, I find it less irritating than when the Focus' one does. Strangely, I'm reading something about the Focus engineers wanting to make the Focus engine more refined at lower speed. From what I'm hearing, that certainly isn't the case. I have this feeling they did some very good things to the Ti-VCT engine but unfortunately, we will never find out, will we? :)

any idea what are the prices of the astra and the focus now? thinking of getting the astra, 1.6 or 1.8 better, what are the differences?

Astra going at 77k+ for 1.6 and +4k for 1.8.

Difference is chrome strips in grille and that 1.6 is 5-speed MTA transmission while 1.8 is 4 speed auto. Other than that, everything else is the same (specs wise). They both drive very differently. Of course, most people would be more used to the 1.8's auto gear. It's also smooth. 1.6 MTA requires some adaptation but I reckon it's more fun. Besides, the 1.6 uses the Twinport engine which has far superior fuel economy. Go try both lah. I did! wink.gif

Focus 2 going at 76k+ fyi. Equipment wise is slightly lesser than Astra though but drives slightly better.

yup..totally agreed with the part on the engine sound between the Astra and Focus.... the engine sound from the Astra is 'music' to my ears

i think the Ti-VCT engine is only available in manual transmission.. [:/]

check out ford's european websites to confirm this.

imho, if you're looking for a hatch, the focus and astra are both good buys.. [:)]

however, if you're looking for a sedan, the focus sedan is really handsome.. no sedan astra available yet.

agree on the engine note. I test drove recently and find the lack of lower end torque forces the car need to rev up 3 to 3.5k under normal driving to get reasonable pace. Even the SE agrees. When pushed hard, the drive train is very smooth, however the weak engine makes the push more like a roaring excercise. btw, it seems that the gear shift seems to be using the same parts bin as the Mazda 3! They look so familiar.....

The 'special' feature the new Focus have is the 'Sport', Economy and 'Adaptive' mode. But I find them very silly to be activated using the left stalk menu to scroll and activate the mode. They should set it near the gear shift by using easily activated buttons.

The interior design and materials is quite a disapointment though. Looks good on photo but in reality, the lower dash materials and the door plastic is so hard and rough texture that it reminds me of a certain Korean made.

Megane2 OMV 20~21K

M2 pricing is the cheapest among the 3 cars i believe. never seen the new focus but looking at the legroom for Astra, M2 is definitely much better. looks of the 3 cars is subjective. M2 pickup is lacking i agree but cruising is very solid. handling and suspension of M2 is reasonable among conticars, but definitely much better than the japcars i tested. may want to consider Mazda3 but u r comparing a conti with a jap, very different in many ways.

i chose my M2 in the end becos of the price, interior space and looks. loving every moment with my babe [thumbsup]

Agree... M2 has more features (incl 6 airbags for safety) as compared to the other 2 models. I traded-in my 2.5yr old Focus Auto for M2 this year and never regret since.

Both cars (original stock) had been driven to KL, but the feel and performance differs on both.

However, every individual has different priority and interest when choosing a car such as cost, looks (interior/exterior), performance, safety etc. Do make your choice wisely. My advice is test drive all the models and my your conclusion.

Has anybody taken a look at Citroen C4? The new kid on the block. launch like 1 month ago with very cool interior and 110bhp and I understand from the SE that the 2nd batch is already sold out meaning to say that there are already 12 on road now. Any comments there? I'm going for a test drive this sat so maybe keep you guys updated then.
