Octopus 3rd Gear May 22, 2005 Share May 22, 2005 Not using mobil 1. Using Mobil Delvac MX 15W40, bought from petrol kiosk.
Octopus 3rd Gear May 22, 2005 Share May 22, 2005 I hear Forklift Enterprises at Teck Chye Terrace sells engine oil at a competitive price. Can try that place if you're looking for Mobil 1.
Civic155 Neutral Newbie May 24, 2005 Share May 24, 2005 Go get Mobil 1 from Gaint....
Elfenstar 3rd Gear May 25, 2005 Share May 25, 2005 Which do you think is better though Mobil 1 more expensive. If you're driving a TC car in sg weather and also assuming you drive hard the i would reccomend the mobil one. If you're driving an NA car, go the shell or better yet Mobil 1 0W30. Ldawn88 2nd Gear May 25, 2005 Share May 25, 2005 What do you mean by 'TC' and 'NA' cars?
Ravrex Neutral Newbie May 25, 2005 Author Share May 25, 2005 i assume TC = turbo charged & NA = normal aspiration but don't you think 0W-30 would be a little thin and not enough temperature resistance in our hot climate?
Elfenstar 3rd Gear May 25, 2005 Share May 25, 2005 It should be fine. In melb 0W30 is fine in summer on the rebuilt TC cars and mind you, 42deg isn't very cold Anyway anything below 30 i wouldnt reccomend, but I do know that a 30 weight on a NA car is the best for both power and economy but only if you change your oils religiously on schedule. Vit4wd 1st Gear May 27, 2005 Share May 27, 2005 Avoid Shell and Mobil brands as they advertise aggressively and their engine oil prices are highly inflated to make up for this advertising cost. Royal Purple, Delphi, Chemlube are of equal or better quality but cost only 1/2 the price of Shell & Mobil oils.
Clipfone Neutral Newbie May 28, 2005 Share May 28, 2005 how about SPC SAE 5W-40 ? SPC SYN ACE is an advanced super performance fully synthetic motor oil. It is specially formulated from all synthetic base components with tested advanced additive package to provide outstanding engine performance and protection in all passenger cars and light truck engines operating under the most severe operating conditions. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS SPC SYN ACE meets the following performance requirements: - API Service SL/CF - U.S. Military Specification MIL-L-46152E - CCMC-G5, PD2 - Volkswagon VW 502/505 - ACEA A3-98/B3-98/B4-98 - MB229.1/229.3 - Approval for BMW and Porsche BENEFITS SPC SYN ACE provides the following benefits: - Maximizes engine life through outstanding wear and deposit control under the most severe operating conditions. - Reduces maintenance cost by resisting oil degradation and protecting against resultant engine damage under the most severe operating conditions. - The presence of a low-volatility synthetic component with high thermal stability reduces oil consumption due to volatility. - The synthetic components help to form an oily film which adhere tenaciously to metal surfaces even when the engine has been standing for some time, thus ensuring easy starting and greatly reducing wear even under high load conditions. - The ability of SPC SYN ACE to maintain engine cleanliness is largely the result of a very effective dispersant additive which act to prevent agglomeration and setting out of minute sludge particles. TYPICAL CHARACTERISTICS SAE Grade 5W40 Viscosity, Kinematic at 40 deg C, cSt 86.62 at 100 deg C, cSt 14.85 Viscosity, Apparent at -25 deg C, cP 4900 Viscosity Index 181 Base Number (mgKoH/g) 10.3 Sulphated Ash, (% wt) 1.16 Specific Gravity, 15/15 deg C 0.
Genie47 1st Gear May 28, 2005 Share May 28, 2005 You go to Forklift Enterprises can get ENOC Extreme 5W40 for $40/4L. This kind of price hard to beat. Forget SPC for lubricants. They are doing what Petronas is doing in Malaysia. Advertize that they got API SM first before Mobil or other big oil can market theirs here. All this marketing tactics. Better still, cxxxxxe 5W40 for $39.90/5L. 5LITRES! Where to find. MB229.3 rated some more. People used cxxxxxe regularly, no problems. Shouldn't be any problems for you. I think ENOC also no problems. So far, there are no lubricant related engine failures due to poor quality API SL rated engine oils. Can safely use any SL rated lube for your car. Cool_jazz Neutral Newbie May 28, 2005 Share May 28, 2005 Which do you think is better though Mobil 1 more expensive. Both are overpriced in Singapore. Go for other group 3,4 or 5 engine oil that do not spend so much $$ on sponsorship and advertisment. I have been using TOTAL Quartz 9000 5w40 and AGIP Extra HTS 5w40. Both are probably group 3/4 oil, they are also cheaper than Shell, Mobil and Castrol but have the same certification.
Cool_jazz Neutral Newbie May 28, 2005 Share May 28, 2005 Agree. Besides advertising they have HUGE sponsorship deals with F1. And consumers are paying for those deals......

Genie47 1st Gear May 28, 2005 Share May 28, 2005 Going to change to Citgo 10W30 mineral oil. For my application, no need synthetic. Furthermore, the oil gets changed out by 10k all the time.
Cool_jazz Neutral Newbie May 28, 2005 Share May 28, 2005 10k and you are going to use mineral? I thought mineral only good for 5k OCI? How much is the Citgo 10w30? Much cheaper than the Elf Excellium? This oil is probably group 3/4 and is quite inexpensive. click the image to enlarge ELF Excellium LDX 5W40 Synthetic technology multigrade oil developed to cover the most stingent requirements of both gasoline and diesel engine. Particularly suited to turbocharged, multi valved, direct injection, 8 cylinder. Can be used in most severe operating conditions and all seasons.
