Gdiking Neutral Newbie December 22, 2002 Share December 22, 2002 Hi all, I want to get a suitable spark plug wrench for my Lancer GDI 1.5. I tried going to VIN Mart as well as Autobacs, but could not find one that can fit. The head always seems too big to fit into the spark plug cavity, even thought the internal head thread may be just right. Any suggestions? ↡ Advertisement
Kianbeng Clutched December 22, 2002 Share December 22, 2002 why not you buy the wench from your mechanic? Just kidding. I think....maybe the next time you do your servicing, have a good look at how your mechanic open the sparkies. Look at the size (or number) of the wench. Bingo. PowerRanger Neutral Newbie December 22, 2002 Share December 22, 2002 Try those Waterloo area spare parts shops. Am sure you can find one that specialise in Jap cars. Good luck! Oh by the way, what is so special abt ur GDI plugs that require a different wrench?
Gdiking Neutral Newbie December 23, 2002 Author Share December 23, 2002 Hi guys, thanks for your suggestions. However this tool is not easy to find. The thing is, the ratchet head to fit the GDI sparkplugs (twin electrode) is not that hard to find, however the problem is the external circumference of the ratchet head, it is simply too big to fit into the spark plug bore of the 1.5 GDI engine. I very badly want to get one, as I found put that GDI engines burn plugs very fast and decarboning the plugs every 5K makes quite a big diff, more power and also light throttle. I used the cheapo provided extension head that came with the car, but after 3 plugs removed, the head simply got rounded. Hmm I have not tried Waterloo street will give it a go maybe tomorrow. Today I try Stamford Tyres at Lok Yang.
Gdiking Neutral Newbie December 23, 2002 Author Share December 23, 2002 Okay, went down to Lok Yang, Stamford tyres, they sell it there! Whatsmore the kit comes with two heads, 21mm as well as 15 MM! So can use on almost any car. The kit costs $5 which I think its quite reasonable. I will be returning the one I bought from Autobacs (higher quality) to exchange for something else. Thks for your help. ↡ Advertisement
