Jhoo Neutral Newbie May 18, 2005 Share May 18, 2005 I think you have good chance of living longer: 1) change those wipers - cheapest source from toyogo, only $6 a pair. (I change twice a year, no streaks, no sound, no judder) 2) If you're working near places near shipyards(Sand Blasting), then you need to get pro polishing for your windscreen before cahnging those wipers and get a good cover for your ride. Good luck
York Clutched May 18, 2005 Share May 18, 2005 The wiper is only a year..... I have been driving with distorted vision for a year liow during rainy days.... But I think if I push my luck somemore, either me or someone else will be 6 feet under. 1 year can change liao....if ur ride is parked near shipyards or fabrication yards...those sandblasting dust ....these tiny chips get seated on the windscreen.. will get the wiper blades to worn faster...every 6 mths got to change liao.. Panda Neutral Newbie May 18, 2005 Share May 18, 2005 My solution is will set you back by about 15 to 25 bucks, depending on person to person. Get some old rags, best if they're old towels (terry cloth like materials) or if you have some polishing cloth (made of cotton that looks like coarse cotton gauze). FREE. Get 2 cans of coke. 2 bucks max. Get a pack of your favourite ciggarettes (if you smoke). About 10-11 bucks. Follow the steps. 1. Wash car clean clean. 2. Wash wiper blades during car wash. Clean blades with a soapy cloth strongly. 2. Dry car dry dry. (phew! Now have 1 coke and a smokes if you smoke) 3. Take coarse rag, DRY POLISH your windscreen. It'll be kinda hard at the beginning, but will smoothen as time pass. Turn cloth / Dust cloth regularly. Do have a smokes while you're working if you smoke.(phew! Its hard work. Now have coke number 2, and another smokes if you smoke.) 4. Job done. 5. Go buy a pizza. 13 bucks. 6. Eat the pizza, you deserved it! TESTED AND PROVEN by Panda. Sign and Company Chop. I only want to change the strip... Metal still ok wat... I saw some wiper (w/o frame) at Autobacs, and its white in colour. I'm not sure if they're made of silicone, but I think cost around $30 for a pair.
Brock 1st Gear May 18, 2005 Share May 18, 2005 (edited) Think it's called Dura-Edge Silicon Wipers or something. Guaranteed to last 5 years. Rubber wipers are recommended to change every 6 to 18 months. Do a search... Edited May 18, 2005 by Brock

So have you ever wash or ever try to clean the wiper blades with wet clothe or tissue? That should help a little.
Octopus 3rd Gear May 18, 2005 Share May 18, 2005 [reply] Think it's called Dura-Edge Silicon Wipers or something. Guaranteed to last 5 years. Rubber wipers are recommended to change every 6 to 18 months. Do a search... Not Dura-Edge. Another brand call Twister, which also comes with frame + air spoiler. Hanging beside this brand is the replacement blade without metal frame, looks white in colour like silicone material. By the way, Twister also using silicone material, but only have 3 years warranty. Genie47 1st Gear May 18, 2005 Share May 18, 2005 (edited) Wiper blades have to be renewed at least once a year. If not every 6mths if you encounter bad weather often. My strategy together with Soya's is to get cheapos since they can be considered consumables and are designed to fail in a year of service. Check out the KAZ selling in Home Fix DIY shops. The Optra uses 22" or 550mm blade on the driver's side. 22" KAZ costs only 9.90 and with the members discount, you can shave off some $$. Passenger side takes 16" or 400mm blades. Cbx750p 1st Gear May 19, 2005 Share May 19, 2005 (edited) dunno..stock wipers..came with the Optra Unlike condoms which is changed once everytime you want to do IT, wiper blades should be changed once every 6 months or when it .......... a. Does not give you a clear wipe b. Juddering or rattling noise during operation c. Cracked or broken rubber ( metal contact would damage glass screen ) You should avoid using these Rain-X stuffs on your screen unless you remove your wipers altogether because they employ polymers in the chemical and these polymers would screw the rubber component on the blades. You should not polish your windscreen with any wax in an attempt to give you a smooth surface. You can try a fine rubbing compound. Wash your screen regularly and try not to follow those 2 stroke bikes as their exhaust tend to throw out alot of oil droplets which would make your screen worst when you use the wipers. Use a windscreen additive when you top up your washer reservoir with water. Just a cap or two would do. One bottle about $5 and can last you a long long time and will give you a better clearing of road contaminants, oil, dirt, etc. BUT....most important of all.......change those wiper blades first ! Buy a $60K car but cannot afford to buy a $12 wiper blades ! Sipaikiamsiap ! Edited May 19, 2005 by Cbx750p ↡ Advertisement
