Wahlao Neutral Newbie May 12, 2005 Share May 12, 2005 Officially launched last Sat... after a showroom visit this week... was very impressed with the looks, price & package offered (almost everything you could ask for) din have time during my short lunch break to go for a test drive anyone test driven it yet? specs-wise it's still a notch lower in almost all areas as compared to the nearest competitor - 2.0L i-VTEC Stream already heard that the Mazda6 which uses the same engine is underpowered, can't imagine the same engine driving a bigger & heavier MPV also heard from colleague & friends who both drove Mazda cars before that Mazda engines tend to be sluggish (hope no bros here are offended , it's what they told me) thanks in advance ↡ Advertisement

Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear May 12, 2005 Share May 12, 2005 (edited) The Stream has 156 bhp, whereas the Mazda5 has only 145 bhp. Very clearly, it will be sluggish. It's hard to beat i-VTEC engine, which is about the best NA engine there is. The Stream (2.0) is a very good drive, with enough power to for spirited revving around. Design wise, I'll say the Mazda5 is pretty good. So if only we have Mazda design with Honda's i-VTEC engine Edited May 12, 2005 by Vblaster_w211
Guardsboy Neutral Newbie May 12, 2005 Share May 12, 2005 No, its the same engine as Mz6 2.0L VVT
Normal_aspirated Clutched May 12, 2005 Share May 12, 2005 even with VVT, still cannot beat iVTEC.
Wahlao Neutral Newbie May 12, 2005 Author Share May 12, 2005 the 6+1 seat configuration of the Mazda5 is simply great but interior finishing & quality not that fantastic, was just hoping the engine "can make it" so that I'll be fully convinced to get it actually picnic has a better & more powerful VVT-i engine than the i-VTEC but it ultra heavy (>2.1 tons) & hence "boh lat" been considering the following MPVs Wish (1.8) Stream (2.0) MZ5 (2.0) Peugeot 307SW (2.0) so far I really like the 307SW but it's simply too overpriced
Ahdi Neutral Newbie May 12, 2005 Share May 12, 2005 went to the showroom this afternoon. price wise is v reasonable..... Bhp 145....shld be rather sluggish, consumption shld be around 9 per litre.....car shld be nosiy..interior quite cramp...thats wad i think...but as for the price for the car....its still worth buying...as now is promotion, most accessories are come with it... Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear May 14, 2005 Share May 14, 2005 (edited) No, the Picnic 2 liter has only 147 bhp, which is lower than Stream's 2 liter i VTEC engine producing 156 bhp. If you want better driving, Honda's i VTEC is a very good option for NA engines. Edited May 14, 2005 by Vblaster_w211
Wahlao Neutral Newbie May 15, 2005 Author Share May 15, 2005 --------------------------------------------------------------------- No, the Picnic 2 liter has only 147 bhp, which is lower than Stream's 2 liter i VTEC engine producing 156 bhp. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Apologies, yes u are right.
