Zymon Neutral Newbie May 2, 2005 Share May 2, 2005 (edited) Allo! Have been driving my red optra for exactly 3 mths since 3rd Feb 05. So far so good except a change in the throttle body that causes my vehcile to stall 2ice just after my 1st servicing.Good enough to pissed me off for this new baby. Noticed 2 probs lately 1) Small dots on the clear coat. Have noticed that the clear coat for the paint work on the canopy, the boot and bonnet of my chevy is seen with many tiny dots. I'm dead sure these are not water spot marks. These dots are not dirt. when closely scrutinized, seems lke small portion of my clear coat had been corroded. These spot is very evident under florecent light and not under sunlght. Tried polishing, waxing but nothing helps. The number have been increasing....starts from the boot then canopy now the bonnet! strangely , none found on the side of the body. Not sure if it is the case of the known "orange peel" syndrome. Noticed this during the 2nd moth of my drive. Getting worse...any one can advise or its it the paint prob? My colleagues have no such prob with their cars parked in the the work place. I wash regularly say, 2ice a week and yet this happens. Any one can advise? 2) chattering of the wiper Noticed that the wiper works well initially during downpour, as it continues to wipe, the strokes becomes terribly chattery and gives you the irritation that the rain is making my windscreen dryer to have such effect. Any one having this prob? Somehow, tested a few times, the chattering comes when the windscreen is wet, when dry no prob......strange reverse effect. is the wiper faulty? Btw, i did use a proper windscreen clearer with a seperate clean cloth. btw, the place i worked in is the place where all Aveo and Optra comes when discharged from vessel. So far i seen only one shipment of red last yr and no more. Guess who ever is getting a red optra must be having that very first batch since last yr Aug. Nerd_on_wheels Neutral Newbie May 2, 2005 Share May 2, 2005 get an opinion from those professional bodyworks people to see what is wrong with the paint work. I klasse my car day 2 after I got the car to sealant it for protection. average rubber on stock wiper last only about 2 to 3 months especially when subjecting it to lots of sunshine and environment. can try to get a silicon pair with long warranty. Genie47 1st Gear May 3, 2005 Share May 3, 2005 As for the chattery wiper, is your windshield beading water?
Chevee5 Neutral Newbie May 3, 2005 Share May 3, 2005 The chattering could be due to the use of wax-based shampoo. It leaves behind a coat of wax on the windscreen and this could be the cause of the shuddering. It is normal and it happens in other cars too. Sddty Neutral Newbie May 3, 2005 Share May 3, 2005 Hi Zymon, My red Optra is just a few days earlier than yrs. So far so good, other than change of fuel gauge. 1. I don't have this problem, although have not done any polish/sealant work, and seldom wash also, too lazy. But I'm usually under shade. Btw, are u working near shipyard? It has happened to my previous previous car, black dots of either sandblast/paint deposit sticks to the car surface. When I change to a new car, I always use a car cover even under shade. 2. Agreed with the rest, this happened when car shampoo(with wax) is used on the windscreen. Clean the windscreen and change to silicon wipers (cost more but worthwhile). Bigfoot Neutral Newbie May 3, 2005 Share May 3, 2005 Hi zymon, I've been experiencing the chattering wipers on my optra ever since i collected my car. (mine is sandal wood) The chattering is caused by a lousy layer of water repellent most probably applied by SA before delivery of the car. (most probably rain X ) To rectify the problem, simply use a good windscreen polish, such as Glaco windscreen polish to remove the layer of water repellent. After complete removal, the water on the screen should not bead at all (even after washing with car wash with wax). You would have to polish it a few times to have complete removal. After that, the wipers should be relatively smooth. If you want the water to bead, use a good water repellent, such as those apply-on water repellent from Glaco. (avoid rainX at all cost!!) You may have to change the wipers to a new pair as the old ones may have the old lousy rain repellent on it. I did the above, and now my wipers are smooth and I still have water beading. Hope it works for you as well.
Zymon Neutral Newbie May 4, 2005 Author Share May 4, 2005 Allo to all again, Sorry for the late response, rather busy. Yeah...I'm working with the busiest port in the world. Perhaps lotsa dust. Black ones! Yakky......even the rear signal lamp have debris in it. . Really dun wish to spent too much $ on the dots......sigh Does starsauto change for free for the mentioned wipers? If not i wil lproceed to purchase....waste $ on petrol every time i go up east and back west where i stay. Just for info Startsauto have not been taking in new stocks of Optras....perhaps sales no good. Usually they take in abt 100 per shipment.
Zymon Neutral Newbie May 4, 2005 Author Share May 4, 2005 Oh...just talking abt not wanting to spend too much...any good recommnedation for professional paint work ? What is the estimated amt to spend?
Nerd_on_wheels Neutral Newbie May 4, 2005 Share May 4, 2005 no need to spend money if just asking for opinion just go to eg. glare and say want body to shine, then act act a bit, ask them what is all this, they will explain to you and if lucky, their product may be able to remove the pits for you. if your affected area is not big, then act act again, like " ohh, i dun believe", then they will rubba rubba their lotion on it and remove for you. then You act blurr act blurr, ai ya, forget today got appointment, another day then come again. then quickly drive off If want to spray car, wait for more damage then go, more worth. but your working environment doesn't seem too good if you want the car body to maintain top condition, unless you cover the car entirely. Zymon Neutral Newbie May 4, 2005 Author Share May 4, 2005 (edited) Wow bro.... Like your attitude! May be i wait for awhile more........ Look here bro and sis....seems like i "bao ga liao" all the flaws you can find in optra... just realised my fuel gauge just went bonkers! still barely a little less the full line and gues what happened? after driving from my work place till south Buona vista, it dipped to slightly 1/2 the full quarter mark an near to the 3/4 tank position....Wonder if the change by SA helps. Damned sway man! Was still complimenting my Red Babe though of the few technical glitches...how to recommend pple to buy. Zymon Neutral Newbie May 4, 2005 Author Share May 4, 2005 (edited) Dear all....sorry just came to my mind. Ask you guys two thingy. 1)According to the manual PAGE 2-17, if you switch on your PARKING LAMPS, with the engine switched off, followed by opening the door, the parking lamps supposed to AUTO switch off so as to esure the battery does not gets drains out. Mine does not work. The only thing is the "dingding" sound indicating my car keys still have not ben removed. How abt you guy's? 2)Accordig to manual, the truck lid(boot) indcator supposed to light up if you boot is not locked. Mine does not light up either. How abt yours? I supposed better to hear from you guys than from SA. Edited May 4, 2005 by Zymon
Nerd_on_wheels Neutral Newbie May 4, 2005 Share May 4, 2005 your fuel guage symptom, I get car first day have already. after "fix" by SA, still not accurate except it dun fly up and try to land again like stock market indicator. Did you change the octane or type of fuel ? this fuel guage dun like to change fuel one. nontheless ts a defect we have to live with and complain every servicing and hope it stay good for a few month. Your parking lamp izzit the interior center light, coz mine also cannot off after remote lock. but exterior light seem to go off after removing power. The manual contain a lot of feature only in the top up market version of the car has. sg version may not have a particular feature or light. Mine is the station wagon, so cannot compare too well, wait for other optra folks to advise on your other defect. Anyway, i will never recommend anyone to buy chevy car, later people come scold me unless I am sure the guy wants top ride quality paying lowest and very torrent towards defect like ME
Zymon Neutral Newbie May 4, 2005 Author Share May 4, 2005 Wah zaanzzzz! I used Shell 98 .....the only time she was fed with Mobil 98 is when i picked up my car. SA used Mobil as their choice kiosk mah. I fed her with the highest except for V-power. I think if i use V-Power the fuel gauge will spin rd and rd man. Just got this prob today after 3 mth pls ride. But i notice the fuel gauge a little crazy with mild fluctuation at times. Not as bad as today. For the parking lmap. Both interior and exterior cannot off leh after key taken out. Yah.... I really dun dare to recommend. Dun want to be and get for nothing. Only consolation is that it is a quiet and spacious car.
Optra4 Neutral Newbie May 4, 2005 Share May 4, 2005 Hi bro - my buddy's Mazda6 Black recently got white tiny spots all over his ride after visiting some industrail area. He sent his ride 2 ADSM and they restored the paintwork to tip-top condition. Cost $100/-. PM me if u need the address. We are not related 2 ADSM in any way. Bigfoot Neutral Newbie May 4, 2005 Share May 4, 2005 Hi Zymon, I also use my RAIN X for my side and back windows only I don't know if they would change the wipers.. but i doubt so.. However I think there is no need to change the wipers if you don't want water beading. Just remove the water repellent and should be smooth again. The remover that I used is GLACO GLASS COMPOUND. Spango Clutched May 5, 2005 Share May 5, 2005 Hi! Are you referring to the Rain-X auto glass cleaner or Rain-X glass treatment? I think they are different things... Quote Hi BigFoot...
