Lanceteo Neutral Newbie April 29, 2005 Share April 29, 2005 (edited) ya but the difference is one skids and the other doesnt when u jus slam on the breaks like an E break. ABS give u on off breakings in split seconds its so fast dat u wont feel it or maybe thigns are happening too fast arnd u to even feel it. this is to prevent skidding. the this is that its defiantely effective though it may have a slight longer breaking as the car wont skid. which is better. and safer Edited April 29, 2005 by Lanceteo ↡ Advertisement

Brock 1st Gear April 29, 2005 Share April 29, 2005 Hi Maded, mine are still stock 13in Kumho wheels. Feels quite OK. No complaints. Intend to change to maybe 15in in 1.5 to 2 yrs. Only then will have sufficient return on investment. If not, the finance minister (aka wife) will issue a spending freeze directive........ The stock items are quite nice, example the HU, component speakers, seat fabric, air-con. Actually, quite pleased with the buy Hopefully, the stock ABS system is just as nice as the other stock items. Haha! I fully understand what you mean. I'm in the same situation. Must wait 1.5 years or more then can upgrade to 15" sports rims + tyres. Wait me!
Acemundo Supercharged April 29, 2005 Share April 29, 2005 curious how do u guys actually judge ABS works? i was thinking for all the car manufacturer's claims, is there anyway we consumers can detect if the ABS failed or is not working properly after some years of usage? Madman Neutral Newbie April 29, 2005 Author Share April 29, 2005 Quote : ABS FACT NUMBER SIX: You may have heard that cars with ABS brakes travel further before stopping on gravel roads than cars without ABS. This does happen with some cars. However, ABS brakes are still an advantage on gravel roads because they prevent the car from skidding and still allow you to steer around the obstacle. (Remember, this and the other hints are about emergency braking only. For ordinary braking, ABS brakes operate like ordinary car brakes.) Unquote. Cars with ABS has a longer breaking distance than a car w/o ABS on a gravel (dirt??) road because the car w/o the ABS already turned-turtle some meters behind.... Lanceteo Neutral Newbie April 29, 2005 Share April 29, 2005 i doubt u can judge it its jus like u wont noe if ur air bags are working till they pop. its quite easy i guess if u encounter a near accident situation and u break so hard so as to not hit the car infront tat ur car screeches and doesnt skid it shows somethign already. Acemundo Supercharged April 29, 2005 Share April 29, 2005 (edited) but as it is, i do try to graduate my braking......ie i don't usually slam my brakes... so if there's no skidding, i also not too sure if my gradual braking was the one that prevented the skidding or its the ABS. i don't like to feel like the emperor in "emperor's new clothes" keke.....that's why wanted to find if there is more concrete way to find out if our ABS is still working. Lanceteo Neutral Newbie April 29, 2005 Share April 29, 2005 yes of coz graduate braking prevents skidding but when u slam ur breaks than only will abs really come in. on normal occasions where u do normal breaking and release breaks the abs works like jus any other normal brakes w/o the ABS. Madman Neutral Newbie April 29, 2005 Author Share April 29, 2005 The only way to find out if the ABS is working is to look for the "ABS" lamp indicator on the dashboard, which lights up for a few seconds when you start the engine. This is stated in the owner's manual. I think this is better than having to try the ABS in a simulated manner on a deserted road. I reckon we just have to trust the electronics. Another question comes to mind. I wonder if the ABS fitted on higher end car models are more effective than those "cheapo" ABS we have in the Aveo? Is there a ABS performance rating for the different ABS makes?
Acemundo Supercharged April 29, 2005 Share April 29, 2005 haha...like i say i don't wanna feel like the emperor in "emperor's new clothes"....so having the abs light lighted up doesn't make me feel any better. yeah i am as curious as u r whether there is an ABS rating? Acemundo Supercharged April 29, 2005 Share April 29, 2005 hehe.....but most such places got a fair amount of traffic...trying this stunt might have some danger
Soya Supersonic April 29, 2005 Share April 29, 2005 that's why i say try at carpark lah. if scared, go to some deserted road at LCK and jam. besides a pulsating brake pedal feel and some klak-klak noise, quite uneventful realli.
Spango Clutched April 29, 2005 Share April 29, 2005 Or you can speed up then jam brakes at a police spot check... See if your ABS kicks in or not...!
Genie47 1st Gear April 29, 2005 Share April 29, 2005 ABS activation for me usually on roads with poor traction. Yes, a assault rifle effect can be heard and felt on the foot. Rat-tat-tat-tat... If you steer while braking hard, ABS also kicks in for the Aveo. Very effective.
Genie47 1st Gear April 29, 2005 Share April 29, 2005 Most eventful will be a drift with an unsuspecting Malaysian bike rider heading straight for you when you turned a little too fast. Good thing my instinct is to floor it instead of hitting the brakes. The rider was scared as hell. He quickly moved the yellow lines and nearly wanted to dismount his bike. Tires didn't even screech. Lots of sliding sound. Amazing what a little water on the ground can do. ↡ Advertisement
