Koolaba 1st Gear December 13, 2002 Author Share December 13, 2002 Hi Cool, I think one 4'x8' is more than enough for ur box. Probably need to share w some other brothers. $15 doesn't include the fee for cutting. Hock Wah will bring the board across to another carpenter who will cut the board for a small fee....aka coffee money
Cool Neutral Newbie December 13, 2002 Share December 13, 2002 THanks.. no worries. Brudder Gadget will be part of my lion share
Lightspeed Clutched December 13, 2002 Share December 13, 2002 sorry...anyone care to educate me what this MDF thing is???
Koolaba 1st Gear December 13, 2002 Author Share December 13, 2002 MDF = Medium Density Fibreboard Used mostly in ICE applications eg amp rack, sub box. U can find IKEA carrying MDF too...but the price is absurd http://212.163.196.4/paweb/finsa/FinsaIng/...mdf/prod03.html
Lightspeed Clutched December 13, 2002 Share December 13, 2002 oh...these boards..ar.... the ones covering my spare tyre well ... but arent these kinda thin? hear cool and the gang saying they wanna do speakers and woofers???
Koolaba 1st Gear December 13, 2002 Author Share December 13, 2002 0.5" and 0.75" thick. Take ur pick. 0.75" is recommended for woofer boxes
Madarmour Neutral Newbie December 15, 2002 Share December 15, 2002 Er...........don't mind me asking, but is there any secret in woofer/speaker box construction? I mean volume, ported or not, resonance etc........... Thanks!
Koolaba 1st Gear December 15, 2002 Author Share December 15, 2002 Follow the manufacturer's recommended volume requirement. Ported or not depends on ur preference. Personally, I'll go for sealed enclosures.
Madarmour Neutral Newbie December 16, 2002 Share December 16, 2002 So when you buy a sub, there's instruction inside with regards to box construction? The Americans think of everything!
Gadgeter 2nd Gear December 16, 2002 Share December 16, 2002 ya ya... I got saw bed. drills, glues.....
Koolaba 1st Gear December 16, 2002 Author Share December 16, 2002 Hi Mike, Yes, u can refer to this site for an example of the specs given. http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/website/products/idq.html
Madarmour Neutral Newbie December 16, 2002 Share December 16, 2002 Thanks for the link! However, the sealed enclosure for the woofers, 10" for example with size of 1' x 1' x 0.5'max, looks kinda small. Either IDQ is very conservative or our local installers goes with this mantra 'bigger is better'!

Koolaba 1st Gear December 16, 2002 Author Share December 16, 2002 Thanks....I'm more inclined in getting a fibreglass box. A wooden box may take up too much space in the boot
Madarmour Neutral Newbie December 17, 2002 Share December 17, 2002 Fibreglass box? I thought those needs to be constructed. A lot of work laying those fibreglass sheets and applying the hardener, not to mention messy! You gonna place your woofer in your sparetyre well? ↡ Advertisement
