Spango Clutched April 22, 2005 Share April 22, 2005 Finally... after months of trying... Changing wipers... Using cheapo blue wiper fluid but to no avail... But due to a stupid, idiotic, nasty flying stone , I was forced to change my windscreen... And the moment I collected my car, I tried my wipers and.... Hey presto! Smooth as silk! Not even a single bit of juddering.... Well, that's som form of consolation for myself... ↡ Advertisement

Sotong_kia Neutral Newbie February 20, 2006 Share February 20, 2006 Guys, my experience may help you all : Initially, when I got the new Optra, the wipers were juddering... Changed Bosch Wipers, still judder. Changed to Duraflex Silicone ones, not much judder, but squeaky and noisy (when the sweep change direction, the rubber flipped the other side, very loud "duk") Then, tried many glass cleaners.. and washer additive. No Help. Most of the washer additive, will make the glass smooth (I can see the bubbles) for a while, then the noise all come back... Tried Glaco Glass compound. (I think similar to Silicon X). Apply on clean glass. Wait for it dry, then use a cloth to clean off the dried powder. Next thing I know, the Rain-X coating was gone ! Wipers smooth, but the noisy direction-change is still there, so I change the wipers from Duraflex back to Bosch. Perfect.. (Almost.. my perfect would be absolutely no sound from wipers.. hahaha) Wipe was smooth, only very faint noise when wipers change direction. But without the Rain-X coating, during heavy rain vision was definitely worse than with Rain-X. Not used to it. Even fastest wiper speed can't produce good vision. After a few weeks without the Rain-X.. I wanted to try again.. (Since I still have the Glaco glass compound, I can remove the Rain-X anytime I want.) So I bought original Rain-X to apply on my windscreen. I did it this way : (1) Wash glass. (2) Dry with squeegy (3) Wipe dry the edges with cloth. (4) Wait a few minutes to be very dry. (5) Apply Rain-X onto new dry cloth (6) Wipe on glass in circular motion, overlapping and covering every inch of the glass (7) Can see it dry very fast, with a very thin layer of coating. (8) Repeated Step (5) to (7) again, for the whole piece of glass, so that I do not miss out any spot and make sure it is very evenly spread. (9) Take another clean dry cloth, wipe away the dried layer. Need some strength to ensure it is clean. That was on Saturday. On Sunday, it rained, I passed through light drizzle, moderate rain, then though a very heavy section. Used wipers too. Viola ! No Judder, no squeak, still smooth, just like without the Rain-X. So, for those who still like the Rain-X effect, but wipers are juddering, my advise is : (1) Recoat a layer of Rain-X to make sure all are even. Maybe the unevenness is causing the juddering. (2) Clean wipers frequently. Maybe the "dirty" parts scratches the rain-x coating and will make the coating uneven after a while. I have since kept my expensive Duraflex away. Using the cheaper Bosch Wipers.... Very good..
Matthatter Neutral Newbie March 15, 2006 Share March 15, 2006 Dear Bros, I too had the juddering problem with my wipers. Started after my stint in reservists at Tuas (3 bloody weeks!). Changed wiper blades...no help. Changed washer fluid...no help. Bought ORIGINAL wiper blades from SA...no help. So let me tell you wat my polishing guy did. He took a brand new...I repeat brand new penknife blade (e big type) and slowly and gently scrapped the surface of the windscreen. Wash with water...and now problem is solved! Its all the build up of whatever crap that was causing e juddering on MY car. So all those who still have this problem, can try this remedy. DISCLAIMER! If you bugger-up (scratch)your windscreen...to bloody bad! Be gentle! Cheers!
Jusnel 6th Gear March 15, 2006 Share March 15, 2006 using pen knife blade? wow, this is only be handled by professional ppl.... anyway, i got another idea that works.... get the small blue bottle solution that is meant to be put into the car's windscreen washer container. it's only like $1.50 per bottle. wet the windscreen, then put some of the blue solution onto some cloth or newspaper, and wipe the windscreen.... it works.... be careful not to drip the blue solution onto the car's paint.... it's very concentrated.... ↡ Advertisement
